  1. Thanks for all the kind words everyone!

---- @ Kerr, I had forgotten to send the photos when I sent in the IV package and I just printed the cover letter again sent the photos along with that the next day. That only delayed about 3 days I think. Then they requested the copy of passport biographic data page and the delay after i mailed it in was about 7 business days.

---- Ooo also guys I forgot to update. My mom got the Visa package from the consulate very soon after her interview. She did the interview on Tuesday 14th, and Courier delivered the package to her on Thursday, 16th! We were both shocked at the speed.

Everyone has been saying throughout my whole process how quickly things are getting completed. Remember Ricardo? I hope this is a good sign of improvement in speed and service for all future cases. Good luck everyone! :)

  2. Keeping my fingers crossed for you guys.

    Thanks a lot Kerr_Wife!

    And thanks Ricardo lol.

My mom called me after the interview was over. She said it was a short process. They just asked her for the medical package and her passport, then told her to take a seat and wait to be called.

When she went back to the window they said everything was in order and asked her to raise her right hand and say some oath and they gave her back one of the passport-sized pictures. Stamped her Visitor Visa (Cancelled Without Prejudice) and had her pay the mailing fee for the package they will send to her.

I was surprised at the ease of the whole situation actually. I kept asking her what did they ask her - she said they didn't ask her anything. Just asked her for the medical package and passport. I was like Wow...

I'm proud of how calm she appeared to be. I understand there's not much worry for a parent when all the paperwork is in order, but still the anxiety can affect some people. When I spoke to her last night and this morning she sounded real calm. :)

So now just looking forward to receiving that entry package and scheduling her flight. I think I'm more excited than she is haha.

I will update on more developments to follow. :)

  3. I didnt call to update any email addresses of my mom's or mines....ok she didnt hand in her choice of agent,.....so I saw ur suggestion of sending it from her email! great I'll do that.... so i have it come to me as the agent...i saw tht on the form the petitioner can be the person to receive mail??)

Yes, you, the petitioner, can be the Agent - I am the agent for my mom.

I would call them and give email address for you and your mom (every time they send something they usually send it to both mine and mom's email) I hope you haven't been only communicating with them through regular mail - if so this will take much longer.

after that is done...the affidavit of support....the i-485 ? along with the payment coverletter from the $88 fee? do i just fill that out and send it back withing hearing from the NVC again ?

The Affidavit of Support (AOS) is form i-864 - send that with supporting documents. you don't need to hear from the NVC, you paid the fee so you can send it.

    thnx alot u're fantastic.....

this is so frustration as i mentioned im applying for both my mom n my fiancee ! grrrrrr

    I understand. No worries.

  4. Hi guys! Happy Memorial day (weekend)

I just wanted to know if anyone knows the approximate time period it would take my mom to be joined with me in the US from Guyana.

    Priority date: 21 Feb

notice of approval : April 19

Affidavit of support processing fee paid : May 4

she has to fill out that choice of agent form and mail it back to NVC in New Hampshire I believe..

WHATS NEXT? AND HOW LONG WOULD IT BE.....?

the reason I'm so eager to find out how long her process will take is becus I'm about to submit my fiance's I-129 F next week...and I know that his process as I've seen goes wayyy faster so....and My mom needs to be present for my wedding so i just want to have an idea!

    thanks so muchhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't really wait for them to send any forms. All forms are available online.

    Next:

The Choice of Agent: This can be emailed.

Did you call the NVC and update yours and mom's email address? I sent them the Choice of Agent from my mom's email address...

Affidavit of Support: Send the Affidavit of support and the supporting documents (along with the AOS cover sheet that you will print from the site that you made the payment through)

Immigrant Visa fee bill: You should have or soon will get the bill for the IV and you pay that. ($404)

Immigrant Visa Application: Once the bill shows paid you will also need to send the Immigrant visa application with supporting documents (along with the IV cover sheet that you will print from the site that you made the payment through)

You can check out my post here, I kind of gave a breakdown of what I did: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/307575-i-130-petition-approved-after-only-23-days/page__view__findpost__p__4644726

And see my timeline below for an update of what has happened since .

    Hope this helps :)

  5. Man thank you for your answer...! i have no knowledge about this and you seem to have it all.

I will pass the information to him. because he said she asked her to visit him in Tennessee which is about 15 hours away or more by car but says she is not able to travel there. Now with having such a privilege to cross the border.. do you think it would be easier to get a tourist visa..?

    Hi Ricardo,

You've helped me so much and I hope that this information will help you to help your friend. :)

Like Jim, I've also read about it online at some point and I found the information here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1266.html

To directly answer your question though: Technically, it should be easier to get the B1/B2 visa since she has the Border Crossing Card (BCC) because a person must meet the same requirements for the B1/B2 in order to obtain the BCC.

    Excerpt from: http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1266.html

Qualifying for a Border Crossing Card

    • B1/B2 visa/Border Crossing Cards are only issued to applicants who are citizens of and resident in Mexico.
    • Applicants must meet the eligibility standards for B1/B2 visas.
    • They must demonstrate that they have ties to Mexico that would compel them to return after a temporary stay in the United States.

  6. hi , Chenielle,

Thank you so much for your responding.

Actually, NVC didn't tell me about my case status.

The information I get from NVC e-mail is these two webpages, and NVC already received my paid fee.....

How do I , or where can I get to know my currently status?

    Maybe e-mail is not enough?

If you don't hear enough information from the automated service just press 5 to speak to somebody.

From what you said though, you paid both fees, so the next step is to send the Affidavit of support and the supporting documents (along with the AOS cover sheet that you will print from the site that you made the payment through)

And you also need to send the Immigrant visa application with supporting documents (along with the IV cover sheet that you will print from the site that you made the payment through)

You can check out my past here, I kind of gave a breakdown of what I did: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/307575-i-130-petition-approved-after-only-23-days/page__view__findpost__p__4644726

  7. hi, I have very same situation as PaulaG.

I'm Citizen and getting my Mother form Taiwan, too.

I paid the Aos fee on March 2011, and the IV fee on April 2011,

since then, I haven't receive any requested notification from NVC.

I wrote e-mail to ask NVC about this, but they respond me taht

I can follow the NVC website pages, download and complete forms.

    http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

    http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3197.html.

I would like to ask Chenielle,

does that mean I can submit IV and I-864 forms without waiting for NVC requested notification?

Where do I submit these forms? Is the same address listed on the Document Cover Sheets?

(I can access Document Cover Sheets on the NVC website.)

My mother is pushing me about her immigration status,

and I am drove crazy both by my mother and NVC!

    Thank you for any respond.

Yes the address to mail to is the one on the cover sheet. Notice that the address is slightly different for each (the AOS one has Attn. CMR AOS). You download the document cover sheet for the AOS and prepare that with the supporting docs. Same for the IV, you get the cover sheet for both from the site that you went to pay it.

When you call the NVC and get information on your case through the automated response thing, it doesn't tell you what's currently going on?

  8. Hi, I'm not an expert in this area, but I noticed no on has responded to you yet.

From what I understand the timeline for the case to stay with USCIS is about 5 months and if it was received Jan 18, then May 18 will make 4 months, not 5. It's already May 18, so even if they send the case to NVC tomorrow, it's still kind of cutting it very close for it to be completed and the consulate process and you come into the country by August 22nd. Great that you got accepted to the college of your choice! I hope things work out favorably for you. I hope somebody with more or better information or some experience in this will come and respond.

  9. Wow, thank you for the detailed information!! This helps soooo much. I just called the NVC number and the case number has not been assigned yet although they did get my paperwork. She said it may take about 4 weeks for them to provide a number, so she instructed me to try back around May 26! That surprised me. I'll keep trying every 3 days just in case though.

    Thanks again Chenielle.

    No problem.

Thants really helpful. Was it exepiete?

    No it was not expedited.

  10. Chenielle, I've been stalking your timeline every since I started this process! lol Your experiences and you documenting all of this has help me tremendously. I thank you. I called yesterday for my NVC number, but it hasn't been uploaded into their system yet. I'll give them a few more days. I called my mom and told her to start getting her supporting document together in the meantime.

Question: According to the NVC Process Flowchart, it says that she would have to complete and send the DS-3032 (Choice of Agent) form. I thought this was something I would complete and send to the NVC stating I will cover all expenses that may come up in this proceeding? Am I missing something?

Oh and btw, how long did it take your mother to be contacted/sent any type of paperwork once you got the 2nd NOA?

That's good. I'm glad my updates helped. And I gotta thank Ricardo, he has all but held my hand through this process.

Answer1: The DS-3032 assigns you as your mom's Agent. So that you can receive mail from the Dep. of State regarding the IV application.

Answer2: My mom told me about a week and a half ago that she got the DS-3032 in the mail (sllooowwww), good thing we weren't waiting around for that to move on with the process lol.

Really, your mom does not need to wait for them to request anything from her. You know the process so you can move through it quickly.

I too, initially, was confused about when to send what and my mom was expecting to get something to take to the Police to get the Police record but it wasn't needed, she got it just fine.

This is what's happened with me so far:

A few days after the case was sent to NVC, I called and received the case number (through the automated response).

-Then the next day I called and spoke to someone, referenced the number and she updated my email address and my mom's.

A few days following that I received 2 emails: One was the DS-3032 and the other was the AOS fee bill.

-I went to the website as instructed and paid the $88.00 for the AOS (Affidavit of Support) fee

-Then I copied the format for emailing the DS-3032 (Choice of Agent) from here: Email Format for DS-3032 (rather than sending it by mail)

Pasted that in the body of an email and fill in the proper info accordingly and had my mom email it from her email address to NVCInquiry@state.gov

3 days later NVC responded to my mom's email saying they received the Choice of Agent request and the payment for the AOS fee.

At this point I could have sent in the AOS package but I was still putting it together.

    - In the meantime I received the IV fee Bill (Email) so I paid that and 2 days later it showed as paid.

After this I was at the point where the NVC is waiting for the AOS package and the IV application package

-Once I had everything for the AOS package I sent that off and a little over a week later NVC emailed me saying they received the AOS and were waiting for the IV package)

-Finally about 3 weeks later my mom DHL'd me the IV package and I mailed that off to NVC last week.

So as you can see, it's best to get all your documents for the AOS and for you mom to get all documents for IV ahead of time so you can send them in ASAP.

Hope this helps you get a better understanding of what to expect :)

  11. That's great congrats! mine for my mom was pretty fast as well, 35 days - I was shocked. So far, as you can see from my timeline everything is going pretty fast. I only had a little hiccup with getting all the paperwork together to send them for my AOS and for my mom to send everything for the IV application. But everything on their USCIS and NVC side has been fairly quick. (Btw, mine was processed through Vermont)

  12. It's faster for a parent than for a sibling, so the better option is for his mother to be the petitioner.

The information below is also something to look into, and someone sle who has experience or know about this can clarify or confirm:

I don't know how long your grandmother has been a LPR, but after 5 years she is eligible for citizenship and then her son becomes immediate relative for immigration purposes, from what I understand. If the petition is still pending when this happens, then his case would be updated and the process will be speedier.

  13. Hmm, for my mom's, she does have a house and street number and they bring the mail to her, so I put her full address.

For the Street I put: House # & Street, Area/District (I didn't put May Pen P.O although I could have, she gets the mail from me whether I put it or not.)

    For City I put: Clarendon

    For Country I put: Jamaica

For Zip Code I put: W.I.

If he doesn't have a house number and street number I would write:

Street: Newell District, Watchwell P.O. or P.A

    City: Saint Elizabeth

    Country: Jamaica

    Zip Code: W.I.

(W.I. stands for West Indies - everybody dealing with Immigration or related issues will know that so don't worry)

Maybe other people who have had a similar address layout as your fiance will respond.
