  1. I know it's a little useless to speculate on times with the NVC, but does anyone know, generally, how long it takes for the NVC to schedule the interview and inform petitioner/beneficiary after case complete? Thanks for any replies.

Please note, this is for CR1/IR1 category visas.

  2. Hi VJ'ers,

I've been reading quite a lot here and have become a little confused. It appears that most people are scheduling their interview appointments online (or by phone)...themselves. I thought NVC was the one to set this! My IR1/CR1 has just made it through the NVC. We got our case complete on March 28...confirmed by SIF and updated message on AVR.

Now I'm a little confused where I'm at in the process. Do I start calling the U.S. embassy in Manila to schedule an interview, or do I wait for the NVC to contact me with the interview date?

I have thought all along that after we got our case complete, the NVC would email me and my wife the interveiw date. Is this still correct. We have received no such email yet.

I've read so many different things here and it seems like there are many different processes. Perhaps that's because there are different processes for different visa categories? Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed a little light.

  3. Hello VJ'ers. I hope someone can answer this question. I just learned via AVR that the NVC is requesting additional financial information and has generated and mailed a checklist. I guess this is an RFE.

My first question is: Do they send RFEs via email?

I ask that because I have moved to the Philippines to be with my wife and family while waiting for the immigration process. The NVC failed to recognize our requested 'Agent of Choice' so I (the petitioner) am still acting agent. This means any correspondence with the NVC continues to come to me. The problem is that since I temporarily moved to the Philippines, I updated my mailing address (as required) with the NVC. So if they are sending me the RFE through postal mail, I fear it will take a least a month to receive...hence, my desire to receive the RFE via email.

My second question is: If the NVC does not send RFEs via email, is it possible to find out what was missing from the original documents by calling and talking to an operator? Do they give that information out by phone?

Thanks for any information anyone can give me.

  4. When the case is complete (cc) at the nvc, how do they notify the petitioner and beneficiary? I keep hearing of very proactive people calling the Automatated Voice Response system everyday, etc. I'm out of the U.S. so calling the AVR is a little costly. I'm assuming both petitioner and beneficiary will receive a Case Complete notification via email. Is this correct? And if so, will the medical and interview dates be sent in the same email? Thanks for any responses.

  5. I just read a post that said a member tried to log onto his/her NVC account but got an SIF (=sign in fail). My question is in regards to what the member was trying to access. Is there a way to check the status of our case at NVC online. Is this an alternate way of finding information on the case? I have read the posts here and have not found any information on how to access case status at NVC online. Can someone please help me understand this? I'd like to check our case online...if possible. Thanks in advance.

  6. This response deals only with the aspect of your questions that deals with having to travel outside the Philippines regularly or not. I have lived in the Philippines for almost 3 years now. I came here on a visitors visa and was required to renew/extend it every 2 months at the BI...for a small fee of about $100. I was only allowed to extend up to two years at which time I was faced with a decision...fly out of the country and return...or apply for a residence visa. I chose the residence visa. Since I am married to a Filipina, I was able to apply for a change of status..from visitors visa to residence status. After receiving your residence status, you are under a one year probationary period. After the one year is up, you have to reapply for residency again. After the approval, you can live here without EVER having to leave the country and return. The only requirement is that you have to renew your residency every 5 years. Hope this helps.

  7. Hi James,

    i would send them to:

    NATIONAL VISA CENTER

    ATTN: CMR

    31 ROCHESTER AVE #100

    PORTSMOUTH, NH, 03801-2914

and yes there is no problem using Fedex

    Johnny5,

Thanks for the address confirmation. That's the address that is on the latest barcode sheet. The agent of choice that we selected has also made the call to NVC from the U.S. and has reported the same. Thanks for your help and time.

  8. I would first call NVC and check status, from what I understand they may hold a case for a year, and if no response they may close it.

    603-334-0700 or e-mail: NVCINQUIRY@state.gov.

Thanks for your advice. I understand from the warnings on previous correspondence from the NVC that if they do not hear from me within a year, they case will be purged. I actually made a costly mistake concerning this. I did let a year lapse without contacting the NVC. Since I have been in the Philippines since 2008 and because I thought the case had been purged, I flew to the U.S. Embassy in Manila to restart the petition process through DCF. When I got to window 35(Dept. of Homeland Security) the very friendly woman told me that the case might still be active. After she returned from checking the case status, she informed me that the case had NOT been purged. I was very happy...but very sad that I had spent money on the airfare. :( I was acting on the assumption that the NVC would follow through with its warning to purge. So I flew back home and contacted the NVC. After contacting by phone, I had the Immigrant Application Bill sent to me via email. I paid and the case has resumed were it left off. But it appears that there have been some minor changes since 2008...addresses being one of those changes. Again, thanks for the advice.

  9. Hello fellow VJ members,

I have a couple of simple questions that I would like to have confirmed from some of the members here. I started my I-130 petition for my wife in Dec 2007. Before receiving the NOA2 from the USCIS, I moved to the Philippines to be with my expecting wife...still here, by the way. I purposefully delayed the NVC process for particular reasons and have now decided to finish up the process.

My questions are rather straight forward:

What is the NVC address the AOS should be sent to?

Can it be sent via fed ex?

What is the NVC address the DS-230 should be sent to?

Can it be sent via fed ex?

I ask these questions because it appears as if the NVC address (at least the address they want things to be sent to) has changed since my petition was forwarded to the NVC in 2008.

The old NVC barcode sheet that the NVC sent me in 2008 says send to :

    32 Rochester Avenue

    Portsmouth, NH 03801-2909

The new address that is listed on the DS-230 bar code sheet (which I obtained online after making the online payment) says send to:

    31 Rochester Avenue Suite 100

    Portsmouth, NH 03801-2914

The street number and zip are different. I'm not sure if they have different address for different forms (i.e. send AOS to a particular address and send DS-230 to a different address) or if the address for all forms has simply changed. I have my AOS, my joint sponsor's AOS and my wifes DS-230 application ready to be sent to the NVC. I'm wanting the agent of choice to send all three forms in one package to the NVC but it appears that there are different addresses.

Has the NVC changed their address in recent years or is there, indeed, 2 different address for each particular form. Can anyone who has recently sent their AOS and DS-230 froms clear up this address problem for me.

    Thanks in advance,

    James
