  1. Results update: I emailed someone at the Mexican Embassy and they stated that as long as my mother in law has a valid US visa she is not required to get a visa to get into the country. I also just spoke to someone at my local CBP office and he said that as long as her US visa is valid when she returns from Mexico there will be no problems getting back into the US. :dancing:

  2. Hello all. I have searched this topic and haven't seen any results that fit my situation. If there is a thread I missed, let me know.

My mother in law is coming from Nigeria on a B2 visa later this year. While she is here we'd like to visit Mexico on vacation. Just need to know if that is allowed and what we need to get done ahead of time. Thanks in advance for any advice or direction to links you can provide.

  3. Hi everyone, and Happy Thanksgiving to the Canadian Decemberites!

Michael and I have made it through our first year of marriage!!

I still say had it not been for immigration it would have been much easier. But, he is such a kind, patient man that it makes everything less stressful. There are few quirks for

me to still get used to in the USA, at least I don't say that I want to go back to Canada every other day anymore...that's a good thing right? The job search has been more than frustrating! Finding a job in what I was educated and trained for is not looking positive.

But.......I was referred for a job with Delta and have made it through the first 2 screenings. It will mean moving to a different part of MN...of course I will notify USCIS, 5 weeks training, and 6 months probation. With any luck and by the graces of God I will have full time employment after training and probation!

    Have a great day everyone,

    Lise

    Lise,

So glad you guys have survived year one too. I was afraid our Decemberite group would be like some other groups with lots of divorces and people returning to their native countries. Being patient is a virtue that I am not gifted with but thank God my husband is or we may not have made it this far. He had the same issues with job hunting in his field but found something to get his foot in the door and we are hopeful it will open more doors. You guys will be in my prayers.

  4. Thanks for the update, it's quite an adventure isn't it? How have you guys been with food? I hate to keep using the word adventure, but that would describe our cross culture eating habits. Pork, chicken, anything "adobo" has all been good, but not all has been good, and sometimes rice gets old to me. I remember making Jenie's first steak, it was a well aged top sirloin, I thought she would love it! Wrong. :bonk: The first thing she made me do was put it back on the grill and cook the life out of the poor thing, NO PINK! Then of course was something called "bicol express" I took a bite and it was like a 3 alarm fire in my mouth. It's been great fun and some disappointment but we adapt, I have learned that I like spicy and Jen now loves steak and actually asks for medium rare. Yup, it's an adventure!

Food has been a challenging adventure lol. He swears Americans eat too much bread and too many sweets. The first time he made spaghetti I thought I would need my lips and esophagus replaced after the 3rd degree burns. But we have since come into a better understanding of who cooks what and how spicy. So one year later we havent killed each other with our cooking, cultural differences, income issues, etc. so it must be love (L)

  5. Hey guys and girls. Just getting a minute to sit down and see what everyone has been up to. We have been adjusting to married life, trying to get through driving lessons, credit card applications, etc. like everyone else. We had a horrible prejudiced experience with an employer not wanting to hire Ola because he was Nigerian but God has seen fit to provide another opportunity as of this week. Hope all is well with everyone else. Love you guys

  6. Wow, you've waited 5 months. I've only waited a little over 3 months on my wife's I-485 and I'm impatient :D

You've given me the idea to call USCIS, and I might do it this week.

I looked at your timeline, and your biometrics at your local office did take awhile. But I don't know how your local office could affect your I-485 since it was transferred to CSC. Well, I'm no expert, so it's just a guess or vent on my part :)

My wife's biometrics appointment was done within a month after we filed her AOS, and her case was transferred to CSC around that time, but we have not heard anythings since.

My wife passed her TOEFL exam in December but was advised by 2 state universities to apply for admissions to grad school after she has her green card in order to get residence tuition. Anyway it was too late to apply for the current semester in December. The local community college wouldn't even let her enroll in classes until she has her green card :D Fortunately she was able to take her written test for driving with her EAD card and she's taking driving lessons now.

It's so wonderful to hear that you are very happy in your marriage!! Congratulations!! :)

It's so good to know we are not alone in this AOS journey. You are to be given a patience medal for 5 months, we've been waiting since 2 months and I'm starting to tick like Smeagal again lol. My husband had his Biometrics on November 22 and we still haven't heard anything. He is being so patient but I know that being alone at home without work is stressful for someone that is as hardworking as he is. I keep checking uscis.gov and it hasn't been touched since November 24. Maybe I will call too.

  7. Our flight was cancelled too Gsummit... how disappointing and frustrating huh? We have to wait 3 more days here in Mexico before the next available flight out :-/

I tried to see about changing the flight to avoid JFK altogether and was told the change would cost $650! :o I am just hoping they wont change it again since our wedding is in 7 days and we have things to do. Hope everyone gets out safe and soon.

  8. Hey guys! Ola arrives here on August 24th and I couldnt be more excited. While I wait, Im looking at these AOS documents and sooo glad to have you trailblazers to help me figure this out. Im gathering documents and trying to figure out whether to use my maiden or married name. This is as pleasant as a root canal. However, I must say I prefer working on this than dealing with all the wedding drama lol. Can't wait for the Decemberites wedding album to start. Good luck yall!
