  1. Thanks! We put in a service request in December. They contacted us pretty quickly saying our case was transferred to New Orleans for interview scheduling. They said we'd be contacted in 60 days or less and do not contact them unless it reaches that point. They never contacted us. Valentine's Day was day 60. We called and got transferred to higher level person, but after waiting about 10 min, the phone line "disconnected." Called back and got transferred again, but the phone just rang for about 45 min. We hung up, because it got to closing time for them. That's when we went ahead and contacted Congressman and got an immediate response. I'm pretty sure the timeline is updated. Good luck and I hope you get a response soon.

  2. Well, good news! We have been approved. We got our Congressman to call. The same day, my husband received a couple of messages saying the card was in production. The first message said it would arrive in 30 days, and the second 60. It was strange that when we logged in to USCIS last week, the status dot was at card production. Today when we checked, the dot was back at decision. I thought that was strange. However, we received our notice today with a notice date of Feb. 20. We did not have an interview, which contradicts a previous message they sent. We're not complaining, though!!!!! Good luck to anyone else waiting.

  3. Our paperwork for AOS was received February 8, 2013 (according to our NOA). We received a notice of potential waiver in August 2013. Of course our online status still says "acceptance." I had been checking our nearest field office processing times and they are on cases filed in April of 2013. I called December 4, 2013 and put in a service request to see what was going on. This was our response via emial on December 16, 2013:

On 12/4/2013, you or your representative contacted USCIS concerning your I-485 to notify us that you believe your case is outside of our normal processing time. Below is a summary of what we found and how the issue has been or may be resolved:

Your petition/application was sent to our office on 12/12/2013 for scheduling interview. You should be hearing from our office in the next 60 days of this notice. If you do not contact our office or call the National Customer line.

    What you can do:

Please see the "Online Services" below to check the status of your case in the near future. We apologize for the delay.

We hope this information is helpful to you.

So, my question is what does this mean? I guess we will be getting an appointment after all, so I need to be getting documentation ready? What do you all think?

    Thanks in advance.

  4. We waited two weeks after he got here to get his SSN. However, we seem to have problems with everything and didn't get his SSN until the day his I-94 expired. Then they didn't want to give it us, so we had to fight for them to give it us! Unfortunately for us, my husband doesn't have a driver's license from when he was in Panama. He always used public transportation. His biometrics appt is the 27th, so hopefully things will get accomplished quickly. I also hope once his EAD arrives, they'll allow him to get the license since where I live, we don't have any public transportation :/

  5. We too are in Mississippi: they will accept EAD as a valid proof of your husband being here legally until he gets his AOS approved. So, until then, he will not be able to get his driver license. Have you applied for EAD and AOS? It will be around 2 months for him to get his EAD once you apply.

Yes, we applied for EAD and AP. Thanks everyone for the replies.

  6. It has taken my husband nearly 3 months to get his SSN. He finally received it (with Congressman's help) last Friday. We went to get him a permit to start practicing driving. The people at the driver's license place told us that because his I-94 expired on Feb 5, he is not considered here legally in Mississippi. How can this be? The I-94 was the time given for him to get married, which he was married within the 90 days. We have applied for AOS and received the receipt number. However, his papers were received on Jan 31. The driver's license place said he cannot get a license until his AOS is approved, because his time here is expired. Is this correct? Surely it can't be. Is there something we should do that I'm not aware of?

  7. Thanks, dstrausser83 and Jay-Kay. I called the local county clerk's office and they said that for anything other than the typical last name swap I would need a court order.

I went to the social security office, and they told me the same thing - that I'd have to get my name changed by the court. However, I went back again to social security office and was helped by a different person. They let me get my husband's first last name only.

  8. Well, I went to the court house to ask about the name. They said they can't control what SS office does. If SS says they can't write that name, they cannot. They only thing I can do is to petition the court to have my name changed, pay a fee of $93, and hope the judge says yes. I have no idea how long this will take :crying:

  9. It's my problem. Since we got married, I went to get my new ss card with his last name on it. They wouldn't let me. For example his name is X Y Z. Y and Z are the last names. No middle name. My new name is suppose to be R Y. I can have every other combination it seems except that one.

  10. Just got married to my husband that had k-1 fiance visa. Coming from Panama, my fiance has two last names. Today at the social security office they would not let me choose his first last name which is his family name (the dad's name). The second name is the mother's last name that is not passed to me. They said I have no option but to take both last names or take the mom's last name. Has anyone else had this problem? In all of the immigration documents we have both last names. On the waiver approval letter it even had his family last name in caps, leaving the mom's last name in lowercase. What do I do?

  11. Originally we filed fiance visa, got denied, filed I-601 waiver, then got approved. Now we're putting together our papers for the I-485. I'm concerned/confused about the criminal history section. Reading the instructions of part B pg. 3, it says if ever arrested....submit an original or certified copy of the complete arrest record. We only have copies of everything. He turned in the originals to the embassy in Panama when filing for the waiver. What can we do? Any suggestions? Can we just send copies of our copies? They are about 35 pages in Spanish. We have them translated also. I really don't think it will possible to get any certified copies from Panama. We do have an original receipt of his fine payment we can send. Any advice? Thanks.

  12. So my fiance just got to the States on Nov. 8, 2012. He arrived on the fiance visa after approval of I-601 waiver. Anyway, we have been trying since Nov. 21 to get his SSN. It is Jan 6, and still no sign of SSN. We have been to the local office around 8-9 times. Also, we had an Infopass at the USCIS office in New Orleans. Supposedly, his papers are still being verified in New York and there's no information any of the other offices can get regarding his verification. We were planning on filing for AOS after we get married on Jan. 12. Everything I've looked at for the evidence of a real marriage deals with the SSN. He can't get a bank account, driver's license, become a beneficiary for insurance policies..nothing. So, does anyone have any suggestions? Do we still try to file it? Any suggestions? I think his I-94 will expire Feb. 5.
