  1. hopefully i can take my oath ceremony in houston. december 9 is my interview here in san diego. then december 15

im moving to houston texas. i'plan to address this issue to interviewer after i pass the test. lol

Oath cermony is on the last-ish wednesday of the month. Our first one was on the the wed, 24th of Sept which was canceled due to Ike and the next one was on the wed, 29th of October. They are not at the same time as the interview.

You are suppose to get to the ceremony location at 7:00 you check in and all that jazz. Cermony didn't really start untill 9:30/10:00 though. I showed up to support my wife around 8:30/9:00. Everybody just sits with their family and does the oath and everything in place at one time.

Also passports are getting turned around quick. I think we got it back in 10 actual days from when we submitted it.

    Good luck with everything.

  2. Disagree with Boiler. Technically you cannot leave the US without a passport as Completely got told. Airlines usually ask for your green card, visa or passport when you leave. If you have a UK passport they will be looking for your visa or GC. If you don't have that could get you in a bit of a bind. Depending on who you are dealing with. But the good news is that you can get your passport in a day. But you do have to go to one of the service centers. Anyway good luck.

  3. My wife is now an offical African American (I wonder if she can apply for those scholarships now).

The run down of the day is, she got there at 7:00 which was when it was requested she be there but the ceremony didn't actually start untill 10:00. We were finished before 11:00. It was quite a crowd too. I think they said 1800 people were being naturalized today. I have a feeling that is partly because last months oath had to be cancelled. Anyway good luck to you all. What a relief to finally be done.

  4. I am not sure what the affect will be on the GC but I am pretty certain it will get you in rough waters when applying for citizenship. Also depends if he was convicted or if the courts found him not legally over the limit. I knew somebody who choose not to apply for citizenship and just continue to renew the GC due to advice from their family's immigration lawyer. They got arrested for some typcial drunken disorderly instance in their college years. I mean something relatively minor, no harm was done, nothing stolen, you get the picture. Still they were told not to go for citizenship becaue of it. Anyway maybe things have changed, but I would definitely have your friend the advice of a good immigration attorney before applying.

  5. Hi fellow August TSC filers...I guess we are all playing the waiting game..I wonder how long it will take for an update from USCIS.

A couple of weeks ago I received a yellow sheet asking me to bring originals to the interview. No interview date as yet though.

By the way, is everyone aware of the new Civic test? If not you may want to check www.uscis.gov.

I would schedule an info pass or call up the USCIS and ask about that. Possibly the inteview letter got loss (not the first time it has happened). Typcially you recieve the interview letter before the yellow papers, and the yellow papers usually come a couple weeks before the interview. And that is what happen in our case.

    Good Luck

  6. You can read in N-400 explanations that traffic incidents are exempt from mentioning if not involved substance abuse (DUI) and under $500.

Not really true, if you go to page 25 on the M-476 "Guide to Naturalization" it says:

"Note that unless a traffic incident was alcohol or drug related, you do not need to submit documentation for traffic fines and incidents that did not involve an actual arrest if the only penalty was a fine of less than $500 and/or points on your driver’s license.

Lying. …,If USCIS grants you naturalization and you are later found to have lied during your interview, your citizenship may be revoked."

So yes you are suppose to put it on but you shouldn't need any additional documention for it. However we got a request for additional information to be brought to the interview and it did say court records. However at the interview they did not ask for them. I think it just automatically prints out that request if you check yes to the answer.

So in summary. i would recommend putting it on as a yes, as it does no harm. Do they really care about, not really, would they revoke your citizenship over it, very doubtful. Could they, yes they could if you lied at your interview or on your application. So in theory if you did something that pissed someone high up off, they could get you booted out on a technicality. Again I don't think this would happen, but since the interviewer or the government doesn't care about minor traffic tickets, no reason to hide it in the first place.

  7. We responded No to 15 and yes to 16.

We brought the court records, but they didn't even check them. I think they just asked my wife what the ticket was for (although there was already and explanation on your application) and then went on from there. We went ahead and put yes, because they don't care about tickets under $500 and also I read somewhere, if it is found out you lied on your application, even after you have your recieved your citizenship they can go back and revoke it. Not likely for a speeding ticket but didn't want that loophole to be tested.

  8. Wow, long link, sorry!

    http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

It says that you require a re-entry permit for trips greater than one year.

Sorry to hear your bad news

Sorry to hear the news. I think if you stay over 6 months your 3 year clock for citizenship has to start over. I know there are some exceptions to that but I don't think (not positive though) your situation would fall under that. I think it is based on work with a US company or the military. Yes I am pretty sure you can stay out for under a year without a permit. They can revoke your GC if they think that you are giving up your residency status in the states and that can be from any trip length (but I hear it is rare) but I think that is where some people get the no trips over 6 months from too. I don't think you would have to worry about it, if you are back over there for family medical reasons.

  9. Congrats iplayitcool, looks like my wife is going to have to wait since Hurricane Ike postponed the ceremony:(

  10. That sucks, I called them up on Friday, and was told nothing but to call the district court. Called all over the city and county and just talked to people who were clueless. Lovely. I wondering when it is going to be rescheduled for. If they are going to lump us in with next months crowd. Oh well. Just add another delay to the process. Although I guess this one is truelly out of their control.

Hoping for electricity today. Come on Centerpoint.

  11. Yes you can send it in 3 years minus the 90 days after your original green card. Assuming you are still married and married to the same person you got your original GC with.

As for certified copies. I don't remember what we put in there, but I certain that we didn't not put certified copies of our tax returns and/or other proof of our relationship. I don't believe that we put any certified copies in except possibly for maybe a birth certificate. I think the instructions specifically say only provide originals or certified copies if it explicitly says it in the instructions (M-476 guide). If they need originals they will ask you to bring them to the interview (and most likely not even look at them anyway).

  12. Seems that you would only be able to file for naturalization in March of 2009. That is 3 years since you have been a GC holder minus the 90 days. But no you don't have to be approved for your 10 yr GC to apply. You just have to meet that 3 or 5 year requirement (There are some exceptions but typically it falls into one of the two catagories).

  13. Wondering if anybody who has had the oath ceremony in Houston, can fill me in on the timeline. My wife has her on the 24th of September, and to the best of her knowledge all it says on the oath letter she got at the interview is to report at 7:00 am. Just wondering when the ceremony was actually starting and how long it typically is, so I wouldn't have to show up and wait around the whole time. I would go and wait with her but we have to worry about our 9 month old, and don't want to drag him down there at 7 if it is going to be a lot of waiting.

Also interested to hear who else has a Houston Sept oath.

  14. My wife had her interview this morning. Scheduled at 9:40 am in Houston. She passed. We got inside around 9:30 and then waited around till about 10:15/10:30. She was taken to the back and interviewed and out by about 10:40. But then they had us wait around for the oath letter. Which took another 40 odd minutes, which is on the 24th of September. Since I wasn't allowed back there I can only give a brief recap of the interview.

She was asked 10 Civics Questions?

    - What is the color of the stars

    - What is the Constitution?

    - Who was the president during the Civil war?

    - What ship did the pilgrims come over in?

    - Some question that the answer was George Washington

She got 9 out of 10. Her nerves got to her regarding the Ship the pilgrims came over and spat out the Star spangled banner, and then quickly answered right but it was already too late. I mean she knew that question and answer from the get go and English is her first language, those bloody nerves though. The IO didn't ask for any of the documentation she brought in. We had the court records from her traffic tickets but didn't ask to see them, just asked what the tickets were for. No mention either of the days out of the country. We listed the days out of the country since her Green Card and didn't cross out 5 and put a 3.

So now we just have to wait for the oath Ceremony. Which says to be there at 7 am on a Wednesday. I wonder how long it is going to last or if the actual ceremony begins that early.

When did you ahve your interview. Hopefully we will be in the same boat after the interview this morning.

My wife had the interview this morning. Passed the interview and then we waited around for about 40 minutes to get the oath letter. So they gave it to us on the spot along with several others. Oath Date is September 24th.
