  1. THanks for adding me. I also have another question. I changed my name on my application (to my husband's last name). Does anyone know if the NOA1 with my "new" name will be enough to change it with Social Security? I have our marriage certificate of course, but I've read conflicting answers to this question on VJ. Will I have to wait until I receive the actual 10 year Green Card? What about my driver's licence? SS and the DMV should be able to verify my name with USCIS, right?

  2. Hey guys! How long are people waiting for their K1 visas to arrive after the interview?

On the letter they give you after the interview, it says it could take 2 weeks. From what I've seen on VJ, most people get it in about a week.

  3. Hi everyone,

I was just reading over the required documents for the interview. For the evidence of support there seems to be a long list and I'm not really sure what all of them are exactly....

    1) most recent U.S. tax return (Is this a specific form with a number???..sorry I don't know a lot about U.S. taxes)

    2) Current pay record (like a pay stub??? Don't most people get direct deposit these days? Or would this be a letter form an employer?)

    3) Evidence of any assets stated on the affidavit? (A bank letter of savings? assets?)

I know you are all K-1 experts by now, so hopefully someone knows! Thanks in advance.

  4. BM,

Yes, you can send off packet 3 before you get the hard copy. I called DOS several times to ask if Montreal had received my file from the NVC. (In my case, this took about 3 weeks). I sent packet 3 as soon as DOS told me my file had been processed in Montreal and packet 3 was sent. It took about a week for me to receive the hard copy.

The phone number for DOS is 1-202-663-1225 (same as above), Press 1, then 0 to talk to a human being  Have your MTL case number ready.

I agree with you BM. This is by far my favourite thread. Thanks everyone for being so helpful! :D

  5. Thanks for the help. :)

One other thing -- can you explain what DHL is and when it comes into play?

    Hi BM Canada,

DHL is the courier service (like FedEx or Purolator) that the Consulate uses to send your passport back to you after your interview. When you go for your interview, you bring your passport and they will keep it to issue the visa (assuming the visa is approved). They send it to a DHL location near you and you go there to pick it up.

You can sign up for a DHL location on the visa info website that iampatricias linked for you. Sometimes the option for DHL doesn't come up on the website, so you have to call or email the booking service (see earlier posts in this thread).

    Hope this helps!

  6. So how are you all handling the CSC site- what I mean is : Is the person registering on the CSC site for appointment and DHL the U.S. citizen or the Canadian beneficiary? Is this also where we pay the $350 visa fee? I am the U.S. citizen and I am trying to decide what would be best. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that the visa info site is for the Canadian beneficiary's information. When you register the site will ask your for your status in Canada (aka are you a Canadian resident) and what type of visa you are applying for. The DHL location is chosen so that the consulate can send the Canadian passport back to the beneficiary (in Canada). When you move to the consulate level the "beneficiary" is referred to as the "applicant" on the CSC visa info site. In order to register you just need your (Canadian) fiancé's passport number, date of birth, type of visa desired, name, and MTL case number.

  7. Yes, when you book your interview the website gives you the choice of paying online immediately with a credit card, paying at a Scotiabank branch, or paying (cash?) in person the day of the interview. As of today (March 15), the next available interview date is July 13, 2011.

I also booked my interview as soon as DOS told me packet 4 was sent. If I had waited until I actually received the letter in the mail, my interview would have been 3 weeks later that it is now. :bonk:

  8. The DHL step didn't come up for me either when I registered. I think it is a pretty common occurrence. I emailed the contact address on the visa info website (contactus_en_CA@usvisa-info.com) and asked them to register my location for my case. They asked for the following information:

Applicant ID # (found on your applicant page)

    Passport numbers for all applicants

Dates of birth for all applicants

The names in the passports for all applicants

...and of course, the DHL location you want assigned to your case.

They emailed me back the next day and set it up for me.

You can also call one of the numbers foundhere and they can help you. It was much easier for me to email them than trying to navigate through the phone lines to talk to a human being, but I think that is personal preference.

    Hope this helps!

  9. Maybe! I believe it was Jeannie who told me that DOS gives you the date that Packet 3 is READY to be sent out, not the date it's actually sent out. I know DOS told me it was sent on a certain day but when I finally received it in the mail, it had a date of a few days later than the date given to me.

Sorry! meant to do a multiquote on that last reply!

  10. Hello everyone waiting for Montreal.....

I have a question for those of you who have already booked your interviews. Is it possible to reschedule an interview date online without cancelling your current interview date first? I read the following in the FAQ section of the visa info website:

The applicant could not find an available appointment in time for the intended trip. What can the applicant do?

Log in again and if the applicant has not yet scheduled an appointment, please look at the calendar again. Availability can often change, due to other applicants having canceled their appointments. However, if the applicant has booked an appointment already, and now wishes to change that appointment, the applicant must cancel the current appointment in order to view the calendar to see if there is an earlier date for which the applicant would like to schedule. If the applicant feels the travel situation is an emergency, the applicant should read the Expedited Appointments information located in the left hand menu on this Web site. If the applicant requires a visa to travel to the United States, please obtain one before purchasing a ticket.

I've read on VJ about people rescheduling their interviews for an earlier date, but does that mean you risk cancelling your current interview? I thought that you could just log in and view the interview calendar even if you had already booked your interview. If not, can you call to reschedule without cancelling your interview date?

    Thanks!

  11. Hey everyone!

Hopefully someone following this thread can help with this. I'm signed on to the Visa service website, but there was never any page that came up to confirm a DHL location. I was able to select the consulate and the type of visa, but there was never anything that came up for DHL. I just get sent to my applicant summary page. Any ideas what to do?
