My fiance received his packet for his medical exam and to schedule his interview back in December, but we had to ask for an extension because he got really sick and ended up in the hospital for twelve days with 2 ops on his knee. Does anyone know how that works? I was told it would more or less just sit there until we were ready to continue or is there some point when it just expires? If we withdraw it and try to reapply later when he gets his health back, will that look bad for us and make it harder? Thanks in advance for any advice!

You are all right on the 90 days to use it once in the US . . . that was just a typo on my part! And thanks for the other info. I was pretty sure it was 6 months, but couldn't find it stated anywhere!

When my fiance fianally gets his K1 visa (being positive and saying when not if!), how long is it valid for before he has to travel? I know he has 30 days to use it once he gets here.

I sent a copy of every page of my passport to show stamps into the UK; printed out pictures and wrote the dates, places, and who all was in the pictures; and I sent a copy of my most recent flight itinerary. That is all I sent for proof of having met and I didn't get an RFE.

Thanks Nich-Nick! Great info. I don't know why they question relationships after they put us all through this! If we can get through this process and the dedication it takes to go through the immigration process, I think we can get through anything!

Thanks everyone!!!

It's so hard waiting seeing people with NAO1 dates after ours getting their NAO2!! We haven't got an RFE or anything!! Is there anything I could be doing in the meantime to make things go smoother down the road when we finally do get our NAO2?
Obviously, patience is not one of my better virtues!!!!

CHEERS! Thanks for the comments and the link!!

Hi, sorry this is slightly off topic but can either of you let me know what my fiance can expect at his medical? We haven't even received our NAO2 yet, but are just trying to be prepared! Thanks!!
-
Thanks for the info, but what actually happens at the medical?
-
To any of you who have gone through it already, what can my fiance expect at his medical in England and will his 12 year old daughter need one as well? We haven't even got our NAO2 yest, so just thinking ahead!
Thanks!!!

Thanks everyone . . . I figured I was going to have to include her but just wanted to verify!
-
I don't claim her on my taxes . . . my ex does. Would she still be included?

I am the petitioner and trying to figure out how much income I will need. I have one daughter but she does not live with me and I pay child support for her. Is she counted as an additional family member? Thanks!

Cheers Nich-Nick!!

He's currently on benefits because his wife passed away and he has a daughter to look after. I know it's not the US way, but it is the British way to do things like that. Do you think that will be a problem?

Does anyone know if they do other background checks other than just criminal? My fiance is from the UK and has a completely clean criminal past. His financial history is a bit confusing, but legitmate with no outstanding debt. Do they even look into his financial past or any other background? Thanks.

Congrats on your visa . . . I only hope when it's our turn it goes as smoothly. Did you have to pay for your medical there or is it covered under NHS?
-
So is that the $350 'interview/visa fee' and would it just be double than for a K1 and a K2?
-
Does anyone know if the K2 for a child costs the same or less than the K1 visa? I'm going through the London office. Thanks!
-
Thanks everyone . . . I think I just needed to get it brayed into my head that the K1 is the right way to go. I am in the US and he has returned to the UK. Neither of us has ever overstayed one of our visas. Can anyone tell me off the top of their head if the CR1 is faster or slower than the K1?
-
Can my fiance from England come here on VWP, us get married, and he stay here and adjust status? Or do we have to go through the whole K1 process? It just seems like there has got to be away to do this without spending months and months apart.
-
Now as I am a couple of months away from making the move I am beginning to think about the finer details like healthcare, housing, shopping, vacation time etc but I guess I will get used to it - it is not going to change my relationship with my husband and therefore whatever it brings we will deal with. I just want to live a normal live with him again whereever that may be in the world!
A normal life . . . I think that is what we are all striving for. I've spent the several 6 month at a time trips in England, but we decided the we would have a better chance of a normal life here rather than England.

I'm a bit confused about something, why couldn't you have married in the US and then gone home to complete the CR1 filing? Why go the fiance route first? Sorry if that's a silly question.
We were told by USCIS that I-129F is the correct route to take. We would still have to be apart even if we did the CR1 wouldn't we? I wish there was some way that families could stay together during the visa process . . . it's like they are trying to set our relationships up to fail by keeping us apart.
Filed an extension
in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
Posted
I did that when filing the extension and got an e-mail that they had received the extension request but no expiration date. We filed the extension before the December expiration date. Will they close a case because they feel it has been abandoned? I was told that it would more or less lay dormant until we took the next step in the visa process. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this. We just couldn't move forward back in December with his medical problems and he's still on very expensive medication. Makes one very grateful for NHS!
