    My passport took 4 weeks to arrive, and my naturalization certificate came 2 days after that. It won't be long now for you to finally have everything over with!

    I thought you needed your naturalization certificate to get a US passport. No comprendez. Can you explain. Thanks.

    Si, as the others have kindly explained for me, I presented the PO with my naturalization certificate for my passport application, and received them back 4 weeks later, but mailed separately.

    Sorry that your wait time was marred by the RFE letter business, but now you must be doubly relieved!!! :star:

    For my oath ceremony we had 2 videos, one of immigrants and various scenes of the country, and one with a message from Obama.

    My passport took 4 weeks to arrive, and my naturalization certificate came 2 days after that. It won't be long now for you to finally have everything over with!

    hi guys i will finally take my oath this coming Friday July 31st. ...what do i need to do after? what agencies i need to inform that i am a USC if there's any.

    apply for a US passport

    an inform the Social Security office of your new status

    Take your naturalization certificate along to Social Security, as they make a copy. They sent me a new card.

    I visited Social Security first, then applied for the passport (as the certificate has to be sent with the passport application).

    You might also want to send in your voter registration form.

    Hi Pure8heart, I noticed that you had your interview on the 15th and Oath Ceremony on the 16th in Portland, OR, did you have your interview in the afternoon? Just curious since I have my interview at 2pm and was trying to figure out when my Oath Ceremony would be. Thanks for your response in advance.

    Hi there,

    I was told by a friend who had her interview at 11:30am at Portland, that she was too late for that afternoon's ceremony, and so she came in the following day for her oath.

    My interview was at 8:30am, so they had plenty of time to schedule my oath ceremony for the same day. You have to be there by 1:50pm at the very latest, or you will miss out on the ceremony! That is explicit in the oath letter.

    thanks, guys, for the reply.

    jeangab, I have a non-refundable ticket to my country for the 19th of August. So, time is really an issue. I would have just let them transfer my papers to my new address.

    len, thanks for the reminder, i never thought of that.

    For my interview, my IO checked the details of my Drivers License for my current address. I expect you would have to tell him/her that you have moved.

    I'm not sure of exactly how everything will affect you, but I see quite a few areas of concern:

    • all the thoughts mentioned above re change of address options and how it will affect your interview
    • you are planning to be out of the country for 6 months a week after the interview. This gives little time to get a US passport, should oath ceremony be the same day, and would be an awfully long time to delay the oath ceremony should you be approved, but cannot (or decide not to) take oath the same day,
    • Your daughters may also become citizens when you do, and so may need US passports so that they can re-enter the US

    Stupid Question

    Hi everybody,

    I have a question concerning the civil test...(even though I have couple months before to send in my application). When the IO asks the questions, do we need to answer with a full sentence? For example, if the IO asks: "What is the supreme law of the land?", do we have to say: "The supreme law of the land is the Constitution" or is it just fine just to say: "the Constitution"?

    Thanks all for the input, visajourney is such a helpful tool with this stressful process. But hey we are almost done...last step!!!

    I had that exact question, and I answered "the Constitution". All the IO did was write my exact answer down on her sheet, and proceeded to the next question (which I could see on her sheet).

    Good luck with your interview and don't be nervous. I looked my IO in the eye when I answered my questions.

    Sorry to hear of this setback. Have you tried looking through her passport, or under her drivers' license in her wallet?

    I methodically put all my documents away before I left the interview, because I have a propensity to misplace things if I am in a rush. I didn't care that the IO had to wait a minute for me to do it.

    Maybe you could make an Infopass appointment to see if she left it at the interview. Just a thought.

    I'd appreciate it if someone could repost the timelines with updated info. The last posting of it used an old copy from before I posted my updated version on 17 June. Thanks!!!

    I had the craziest week myself, my labor got incuded on Friday night, it took 18 hours and I had my little daughter on Saturday at 6pm, all went well, got out of the hospital on Monday morning, which was quite something, had to keep telling people I needed to be out by 9am to make it to my interview!!

    I went home, left my baby with my parents and hauled downtown with my husband, the interview was so easy, no need to be worried at all, I waited a few minutes, we went over my application, added my daughter under the children section and then I had to read and write someting like George Washington was our first president. Then I got asked the civics questions, I think it was how many voting members in the House, The question about John Roberst in the Supreme Court, which ocean onthe East coast, and three more, I can't remember, I was having a hard time not falling asleep since I hadn't had any real sleep for days with the birth and the new baby. It was super easy, nothing to worry about, got the letter that I am recommended for citizenship and was told to wait for the oath letter now.

    Does anybody know how to find out where the oath ceremony will be held and what the upcoming dates are for San Francisco?

    I would like to estimate how long it'll be...

    Hi all! My interview this morning went smoothly, and now after the oath ceremony I'm a US citizen! Yay!! :dance:

    Interview report follows. Congrats to pure8heart (missed you by one day!), simonsays and andresamina! Good luck to the rest of the Marchers!!!! :thumbs:

    Arrived 8:10am for 8:30am appointment. Called about 8:55am. After swearing me in, IO asked for my green card, passport and ID (I used driver's license). She checked my address and details, using a red pen to confirm my answers.

    She looked at my trips and my passport stamps and remarked on the last one (a 4-month holiday in Mexico).

    Then I did the reading test (Who elects Congress) and the writing (The people elect Congress). Questions were:

    4. What is an amendment?

    81. Who did US fight in WWII?

    52. What do we show loyalty to when we say the pledge of allegiance?

    34. Who vetoes bills?

    1. What is the supreme law of the land?

    44. What is the capital of your state.

    Then she went through the rest of the form in order, checking them off with her pen, asking some of the questions, using her own words (e.g. Have you ever hurt anyone?). Then about 3 yes questions. She went back to check my trips details on her computer and made changes on the dates of a couple of them.

    She said I was approved and could take oath the same day. I signed my photos and the form (resigned the first part with my normal signature instead of all my names). I received my N-652 and my oath letter.

    We returned at 1:30pm and at 1:55pm were led upstairs, checked off, and led to a room where family and friends were waiting. There were 21 of us from 15 nations. Cameras were allowed.

    Not sure of the order of all this, but it is pretty close. We saw a short wordless film, then we took the oath of allegiance, received our certificates, then another film, then made a pledge to the flag. Time for photos, including some in front of the flag. All done by 2:30pm! :star:

    I had my appointment this morning (Saturday). Half an hour early, the place was almost deserted, and I went on in as soon as I had filled out the form.

    A lady who arrived before me tried to do a "walk in" but they wouldn't let her. She said they were only doing appointments.

    I have heard that Wednesday afternoons is the time to do walk-ins for my local office.

    Another lady I know drove to Atlanta hoping to do a walk-in on a Saturday morning, and she was able to.

    Finally received my Biometrics appointment letter, for next Saturday. :dance:

    Seems the applicants from the 1st half of March have all got their biometrics, Congratulations!!!

    Good news! :dance:

    My NOA1 was in the mail, so it came today or yesterday. Dated March 20, priority date March 17 (= received date). Remember that I sent a money order.

    For you others, it's only a matter of time now. Best of luck!

    Have them cashed your check yet?

    My check still up in the sky, wonder why they are so slow lately?

    not even hurry to take money away from me?

    BTW, my package was delivered on March 16,09.

    We sent a money order, and I don't know if it has been cashed. I will pick up our mail tomorrow.

    Package arrived 13 March.
