  1. Taniya,

I am sorry that you have not been scheduled for your Oath yet. My IO was a very kind man named Mr. Graham. He said there were a few slots left for Friday's Oath. He put me and my Daughter in. He offered Friday, until he offered, the topic of Oath had not yet been discussed.

One of the first things I did Monday when posting about our Interview experience was to review you in the timeline - I was hoping to see you as scheduled for the 28th also.

Is not it strange, right? On my interview day, everything was perfect and I have a clean background. Even the officer told me that I have been approved. The only problem was, there are no slots remaining for scheduling oath on October. Hopefully I will be called soon.

Wish you all the best after becoming USC.

  2. Hi Everyone...

We arrived at the Philly INS office at 7:55, cleared security and up to the 2nd floor by 8am. The receptionist took our Interview notice and advised us where to go.. Daughter was to be interviewed on the 2nd floor, I made my way up to the 3rd floor where my Interview Officer was waiting for me. He was very very pleasant. The interviewer went over the information on the application - travel dates needed to be updated for recent travel and then onto the interview questions.

    1. What did the Declaration of Independence do?

    2. If both the President and the VP cannot serve, who becomes President?

3.. What is the Supreme law of the land?

    4. How many amendments to the Constitution?

    5. We elect a US representative for how many years?

    6. How many Justices on the Supreme Court?

He approved my application and invited me to participate in the Oath Ceremony Friday Oct 28th at 2pm. He was willing to walk with me to find where my daughter was to have that Officer put my Daughter in the same Oath Ceremony.... as we were walking down the hall.. we found her 3 door down with a very stern looking man. Daughter said he lightened up very early into the interview, approved her - didn't go over her application at all, as I had signed that I had prepared the document. He did ask her for more information about her underage drinking charge and giggled that it was changed to disorderly conduct/fighting.. He too gave her the invite for the Oath, Friday Oct 24th.

I dreaded this entire process as to date everything we did with the INS was a hassle... our files were MIA for about 18 months... anyway.. So glad it is over and Friday we free of the INS.

Question about the Passport; do we need to update our SSN to citizen before applying for Passports?

Congratulation Designer in advance for your upcoming Oath Ceremony. I am so glad to see that you are almost done.

However, we both have attended our interview at same INS office. In fact, my interview was placed at 20 days earlier than your's interview, when I was told that I can't have my Oath in October as all oath ceremony slots in philadelphia is already full for October. Does it mean, the INS officer was lying to me for some reason? Probably I am the unlucky one.

Wish a wonderful day on your oath ceremony.

  3. Good Morning... Tomorrow is our interview @ 8:20am( self & 18 year old Daughter). I'm nervous.

There is nothing to be nervous at all. I was interviewed at the same field office and everthing went well. Truly, it is an exam that hard to be failed unless someone has any background issue..Wish you all the best!

  4. Yesterday Bani had an interview.... hope to hear soon the results....

Tomorrow is taniya's interview and sheila526's oath ceremony....

    Good luck guys!!!

Thanks to everyone for wishing me good luck and your continous support on this journey.

Finally I had passed my naturalization test on scheduled interview date. Everything went well as it was described by our fellow VJ members at earlier post. They have asked me few questions from my N 400 application and few civic questions. I would say my experience in few words,"it is the easiest one among all other petitions at USCIS". However, I was expecting to have an Oath ceremony within this month as Phila USCIS scheduling oath ceremony twice in a month but the IO told me it could be in next two months. So, I am currently waiting to receive an oath letter.

Goodluck to everone, who is waiting to have their interview and oath ceremony.

  5. Since your case is closed, I would just suggest bringing the up-to-date DS-230 with you to the interview. Then hand it in there, explaining how after you finished with NVC you noticed the mistake with the dates. They probably won't ask much into it.

Thanks for your reply. I affraid, if we bring this matter up during interview they will be suspicious to it and put us on administrative process for an unlimited time to inquiry everything.

I would rather fix it before it moves to Consulate or do not share the issue at all with consulate. May be they won't make any inquiry of beneficiary's educational background on F2A visa. But the fact is, we could be charged for misrep if they were able to find it. In that case what can we expect the worst? Will we be given a wiaver option?

  6. Thanks to everyone for your kind replies & helps. I was quite worried & didn't have any information about this call. After reading all these answers, now I know how I was picked up by error and what should I do in respond to jury. I am going to mention my current status on jury questionnaire form and send it back to them. Besides I will call one of the rep to inform that. Hope they will send me some kind of confirmation in return.

Thanks again to our VJ members. I am blessed to be a part of the VJ family.

  7. Total mistake. And they WILL ask you at your interview if you've ever registered to vote illegally or if you've claimed to be a citizen before this interview. Serious offense...so don't go. Call the clerk and send in notice that you have an interview or a copy of your greencard to prove it. If you got a US Drivers License, it's possible at the DMV they checked the box to register you to vote.

Thanks everyone for your replies and helps.

Tolsab, I am having a driving license. Do you think, I was registered as USC in DMV to vote? If so, could it be a trouble for my naturalization?

  8. Dear VJ members,

First of all, sorry if I am writing this topic in a wrong forum.

I am a LPR, waiting for my naturalization interview on October 2011. Yesterday I have received a letter/summons from Jury Selection Commission to report for Jury duty at September 27, 2011. Hence, I was searching on the net to know how does it work and why should it apply on me. As far as I understood through my search that Jury Commission can call any US Citizens to serve this duty & it should be taken seriously otherwise there will be severe penalty/fine. But I wonder why was it sent to me as I am still a LPR, not a US Citizen yet. So my question is

    1. Did Jury Commission ask me to serve this duty by mistake?

    2. Should I serve Jury duty even before I bacame a US Citizen?

    3. How should I respond to Jury Commission?

Have you been through this situation? Any help or suggestions will be highly appreciated.

  9. Eventually, I have received the appointment letter and tried to update it below by myself.

Wish I could have a date of Oath Ceremony soon after my interview. Good luck with everyone who is waiting for the interview letter.

  10. Dear VJ members,

I am from philadelphia & currently in final stage of my naturalization. As I will apply for US passport in few days, I have been preparing all the documents and information for that. Here is my case details below to have a clear idea:

I & my son had entered in US at August 2006 on F-IV immigrant visa. My son will be 18 in next May, 2012. Thus I have applied N400 for myself only not for my son as he is under 18 yet.

Now I am planning to apply for US passport book and passport card for me & my son once my naturalization will be completed by Sep 2011 without applying for my son's naturalization/ N-600. Here is how I am planning to do it -

    1. Fill up two forms of DS 11, one for me and one for my son.

2.(a) Supporting Documents for my application:

Attach the copy of my Naturalization certificate, driving license, state ID with my application ( copies only, not original )

2.(b) Supporting Documents for my son's application:

Attach the copy of my Naturalization certificate, my son's green card, my son's state ID ( copies only, not original )

    3. Take my son with me to the following passport agency to submit the application in person and sign on the application in front of an agent:

    Philadelphia Passport Agency

    U.S. Custom House

    200 Chestnut Street,

    Room 103

    Philadelphia, PA 19106-2970

    4. We have to present or show our original ID & Naturalization Certificate to the agent in order to verify the copies are attached with our application.

    5. Make the payment by two bank checks for each application separately ( $ 140 + $ 25 ) $165

Is there anything else I need to do or add or change with our US passport application? Please put your suggestions in reply.

Your helps will be highly appreciated.

  11. After paying AOS fee, NVC should generate a Cover Letter & email to you or you may log in to NVC site after 3/4 days to print the Cover sheet. Once you have that coversheet you can send your AOS Package along with AOS Coversheet at top of your AOS Package to the address written on that coversheet.

You don't need to wait for NVC requesting you to send the AOS package. Thats how we did it.

    Hope that helps you.

hello every one i'm new here... i recently paid the AOS fee and i need to know if i should mail AOS to NVC without being asked to, or wait until they ask for it

and could it be filed via e-mail ?

  12. I'm not sure what the case is with your daughter, so here are the two possible scenarios:

    1) You are the U.S. citizen. Your wife has a Green Card, and so has your (step-) daughter.

If that's the case, your daughter automatically becomes a U.S. citizen at the time your wife becomes one. In cases like these your daughter has not the option to change her name as she will not have an interview, will not be sworn in, will not take the oath. That means you'll have to go the court route.

    2) Your (step-)daughter will go though the process of naturalization herself. That would require her to be at least 18 years of age. In that case the option of choosing a new name, any name within reason, is part of the process and the $680.00 fee. If that's the case, your daughter can choose to be reborn with your last name or a totally different one. Since she would be an adult at the time, there's nothing you can do legally, as it's her decision not yours.

    [/quote

Well let say it would be the scenario # 2. In that case, do we need to submit any documents or evidence for changing name while taking oath?

  13. Thanks for your reply.

I have already received the I864 & IRS Transcript from my brother (Joint Sponsor)with only his signature on it. Besides, he doesn't have any paystubs as for being self employed.

But, I am wondering why should I need a I864A from my brother's spouse? Is it because they are filling joint taxes?

I will really appreciate if someone can write me a little more information about it.

  14. The I-864 is for an individual. A sponsor's spouse would complete an I-864A whether filing jointly or not.

    Your brother signs his 864.

Sorry, probably I didn't make it clear. Here I am writting my query again:

I am the petitioner/ principle sponsor filling & signing an I 864 for my spouse F2A Case. Due to my insufficient financial status my brother is going to be a joint sponsor, who is living in a different state. So he is filling another I 864 for me. However, he has been filling his taxes jointly with his spouse & his spouse never worked or earned.

Now my question was, should my brother only sign on I864 or his wife should also sign on I864 along with him? If they both need to sign then, which places they should sign on I864?

    Thanks for your answer though.

  15. Hello everyone.

I am going to have my brother as joint sponsor for financial support in my spouse F2A case. However, my joint sponsor is filling his taxes as jointly with his wife/spouse. Though his wife never had worked or earned any money to file in tax.

Hence I would like to know if my brother only needs to sign on I-864 as being my joint sponsor ( surely I know it will be a separate I 864 than mine ) or his wife also should sign on that I 864 as they are filling taxes jointly?

If they both need to sign on I864 then where they should sign on it?

I would highly appreciate your help in this regard.

  16. I just read your case history & really feeling sorry to know that you had to go through all these.

My spouse is also working in Khobar, Saudi Arabia & we both are from Bangladesh. As far as I learned about Saudi, the cosulate over there does not take as long as Bangladesh or pakistan to schedule interviews & process cases. I believed, Riyadh embassy is having less applicant & more functional way to work. So, I thought it would be earlier to get interview there & easier to cummunicate with them compare to Bangladesh & Pakistan.

However, I think they were suspicious in your case for the reason that your husband is from Pakistan & you are from Bangladesh. As this type of couples are very rare in Saudi Arabia. But dont worry, as long as you have all requested documents & proof of ongoing relationship to convince them about your marriage is real, hopefully they will allow your husband to have the visa soon after the interview on 8th August. Just be confident and remember that you will be in our prayer....

  17. I am very glad to help, since I know how painful waiting is....

In terms of Oath ceremony: when I had my citizenship test on March 7th, the officer asked me at the end of the test when I would like to have my oath ceremony. I said:"as soon as possible", and I got the date March 9th.

For some people they are sending invitation by mail later.

I have two more friends who had their test at the same office for citizenship and they were asked about date they would like to come for oath by the end of the test. So, you shouldn't wait long after you pass your test.

    Good luck again!

You have given me the greatest information about how to coduct an oath ceremony early. Thank you so much for that.

Is there anything else I should know related to interview questions or documents to carry with?
