  1. Hi Everyone hope you are doing well :)

So my finace and I finally got married today! yay!

I want to change my name but am not sure when/how I should do this. I do not have a SSN yet. Should I fill out the AOS/AP/EAD with my maiden name or married name? I also need to get a new passport from canada (home) but my K1 visa is in my current passport.

When filing for AP what do you in the fields requesting info about your future travels? I am just filing it because it is included in the cost and I would love to see my family before I get my GC but have no specific travel plans. I read one lady added in an explanation saying she filed an i-485 etc and then someone corrected her saying you can just leave it blank if you are sending it in with the i-485. Does anyone have any clarifying information?

Thanks a million! I am totally overwhelmed by all this... I appreciate the support on VJ SOSO much!

  2. Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place. I was just wondering if anyone has advice for filing the I-485 form and all the stuff that happens after you get married in the US. Does everyone have to have another interview? What do you have to prove at the interview?

Why is there so much info on everything leading up to the K-1 interview but so little on afterward on this website? (Or am I unable to find it... really possibility! haha.)

    Tahnk you!

  3. I agree it makes a huge difference. My fiance and I became engaged after a month. (We are religious and thats just the way do things!) He attended the interview with me and I think it really erased any questions from our interviewer's mind. The interviewer even cracked a joke about it... You dont waste time do you? Haha.

I would also plan to explain away those red flags. Be ready to clearly state why you had a failed past relationship etc.

Before our interview I was BEYOND nervous. Really, I think, these people want to approve K-1 VISAs. You just have to help them by providing them with the info they need to support your relationship and cover any questionable things. If they seem to be unsure offer to show them pictures or some of your other paperwork that has to do with their area of doubt.

    Good Luck!
