  1. Thanks, everyone, for your support.

Carlos' Wife...where did you post your experience? I am trying to find it and can't....

He has to do his medical...do you schedule an appointment for this or do you just show up and stand in line?

my interview is on April 18th, next monday! I am very excited too, so I imagine how you are.

I did my medical exam last week, it's easy, your husband does not have to make an appointment for the medical exam, just go to ''consultorio de visas'' with the passport, the first page of the appointment letter and 3 Passport photos. call this number for information about the exam fee, which varies according to sex and age (809 685 1587).

I arrived at 5:15 am and there were about 20 people in line, I was out by 10:30 a.m.

congratulations for the interview and good luck....

  2. Hello everyone!!

I m starting to get really worried cause I see most people here who has mailed all their documents in order to do the AOS, Immigration has cashed their checks within a few days or a couple weeks at the most..

My lawyer mailed all the paperwork and checks on March 23rd and Immigration still haven t cashed my checks...

I m starting to worry that something went wrong or the papers got lost...

I saw someone here talking about a sub forum about people who filled for the AOS in march this yr and that their AOS s are also taking longer.... can someone tell me what s going on? if u know about any extra info I might be missing..

Hope to hear from any of you, thank you so much for taking the time to read my message.

    Have a great day!!

    Leslie

It's still early.. they take 20 days to open your mail. your Lawyer should have advised you to pay online. Ask you lawyer to make and other fees online.

  3. PRESS RELEASE - http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov/pr-110408.html

Santo Domingo.- A partial shutdown of the U.S. Government, to include U.S. Embassy operations in Santo Domingo, now appears possible because of a lack of agreement in Congress on current budgetary appropriations. The partial shutdown would begin tonight, Friday, at midnight, and continue for an indefinite period. In the event of partial shutdown, the U.S. Embassy will continue to provide emergency services, including emergency consular services to U.S. citizens in need. However, routine visa issuances are not considered to be an emergency service and therefore would not be provided during the possible partial shutdown. The Puerto Plata Consular Agency would be closed during a partial shutdown.

Non-Immigrant Visas (NIV): Routine appointments would be rescheduled by the Embassy. Emergency services, narrowly defined, would be provided. Pending issuances would be completed and returned to applicants.

Immigrant Visas (IV): If there is a government shutdown, Santo Domingo’s Immigrant Visa Unit would not be able to interview any applicants. The IV Unit would reschedule any affected April appointments for the first available dates in June. The Consular Section would consider for emergency appointment any IV cases where children will age out.

thanks a lot for the info.... the shutdown won't happen

  4. i'm really so sorry to know that...

as everyone have said here, that's not normal, if that is now i don't want imagine when you get marry!!

people here have given you very good advices but i suggest, first of all, talk to him about what you feel and tell him everything that you have written here if he continue like that, don't marry him, or will end up hitting you, humiliating you and so on.

if you have to go back to your country, do it, that's better than living a miserable life with an idiot like that.

    good luck.

  5. I was even told a story about a woman in the DR who went to pick-up her passport with visa only carrying her handbag and from there she went to the airport and came to the USA! She must have been in a hurry... No need to wait, but you do need to travel by the expiration date listed on the visa itself though.

hahahahha so if they give me the passport late, i will do the same lolzzzz

  7. Hi! :)

How is everything going? Long time no hear!

If you paid the fee with a personal check (instead of using a money order) you can check your bank account and you will definitely notice when they have cashed the check! When did you send the packet? You should receive the receipt notice in a couple of weeks in the mail.

    Best wishes! (F)

i had the same situation. it is now taking NVC 20 days to open and enter your mail on the system...

  8. please help me out here ppl. i received a check list from NVC stating that they receive my DS230 however they are missing my marriage certificate and my spouse birth certificate. how is this possible when i send everything in 1 package and it was all stapled together? i also spoke to a supervisor at NVC and they said that they will look into it and to call back in 10-15 days. let me know if you had similar incidents and what did you do.

  9. hi all. i'm new to this site, new to the process, new to this situation, really.... :help:

my fiance and i met in Februrary (2010) and fell in love quickly. there is no doubt in my mind we were "meant to be." (L) we were engaged by may 4. we're planning a wedding celebration this coming may (2011), but getting very nervous/frustrated with his current status/situation. :bonk:

ion came here from moldova in november 2007 on a b1/b2 visa that expired in february 2008. but he stayed and worked. he tried to extend his visa to attend college, but ultimately the school told him they couldn't do it. so he continued working instead. he mostly was paid (sporadically) under the table, but did have some earnings that were reported under his business tax id number (though he hasn't paid any taxes that we know of - which is another whole can of worms that we're looking into  ). he told me that before we met, he didn't care if he was caught and had $1200 in his account at all times to buy a ticket home if necessary. :wow: but now all of that has changed, and he wants to stay here and be a legit resident of the US. :star:

he left his job in april because his boss owes his ~$11K (told you it was sporadic)!! he immediately started at a new place doing similar work and actually getting paid.... but that soon changed.... now that boss owes him several grand as well. we have no official/legal right to fight for that money (that we know of) and we are both sick and tired of people taking advantage of him. he is way too smart and talented for this kind of treatment, despite his poor choices in overstaying his visa.

a few months ago, we spoke to an immigration lawyer who indicated that because he is here in the US and overstayed his visa, he will not be able to file the more commonly used K1 visa.... if he leaves the country to get it, he will receive a 10yr ban. we DEFINITELY do not want that! anyway, we are not at all able to financially support a trip to moldova for him, let alone both of us. instead, we have to wait until we marry, then file for a waiver (i think) to adjust his status and get a temporary green card. that is supposedly the only way to get his overstay "forgiven". then, of course, we have to prove that we are truly in love.:luv:

i hope this is all making sense... as i said i am new to all of this, and feeling very confused/overwhelmed!!

i am looking for any advice as to whether we should go ahead and get married now to expedite the process of bettering the situation (and still do our fabulous wedding celebration in may, of course - i am NOT giving that up  ). please, please lend me your expertise and advice!! thank you in advance!

    Hi,

i am in the Human Resources field and i know a bit about the Labor Laws, working, working standard and working illegally. As long as work is performed he must be paid... Although he is an undocumented worker he is entitled to the same protection and Fair Labor Standards (FLSA) laws as any citizen. He can actually file a complain with the Department of Labor (DOL) for unpaid wages... i am 100% sure he will get the money he is owed... Actually his past employer may face legal issues with this regards.. Don't be scared that he worked illegally or not. i believe his ex employers know his situation and they are thinking they can get away with free labor.. Please, go get the money.. YOU NEED IT and it is totally legal..

  10.

That seems about right (the list of items needed can be found in LingChe's guide which is super helpfull). I'm not even near this stage yet (I have yet to be approved  ) but these are some of the items I've already started to gather. I also got my husband's signatures on the DS-3032 and DS-230 on my recent trip to DR, making sure to leave the dates blank.

Good luck and hope you speed through the NVC stage.

Do I have to send the last 6 months pay stubs along with the AOS and tax transcripts? Also, do i need to send a job letter too?

  11. Can someone please help me here? I will attempt to frame my situation first. I got married in Dominican Republic 08-10-2010. I-130 & G-325a already sent to USCIS. I received a NOA on 08-24-2010. Received a RFI on 11-17-2010, they needed proof that my divorce was finalized. Proof was send back via UPS within 2 days. My case status is now (response review).

Can someone tell me what are the next list of forms I will have to complete and send back to USCIS or Visa Center etc. i want to get all these ready so as soon as I receive notice of approval i will have all documents ready.

Thank you for your help as I can’t afford to pay a lawyer to get this information and help.

    Thanks
