  1. Hi guys, I'm STILL waiting for the IRS to finish my 2011 return! They lost the last page of my 2555 form and I had to resend that in 3 weeks ago, if this hadn't of happened, I'm pretty sure it would have been finished by now and I'd have the transcript in my hands! They said it will add on 6-8 weeks LONGER to get it all processed. I'm at a loss! I called the NVC, they do not care as I don't have my photocopy of my original 1040.

So here's my first idea, please tell me if this will work. If I send in a 1040x (amended 1040), photocopy that and a photocopy of my 2555 and my P60 (like W2 here in Irelnad). Will this be sufficient for the NVC? Just worried it will backfire and add even more time to the waiting game.

My other idea, a photocopy of a 1040 form with all the SAME info I had previously sent the IRS. I know the date I sent it off and everything. How is this any different than the 'original' 1040? It's the same info is it not?

Please guys, we're at a loss here, all fees are paid, all other info is ready to go except this. The IRS are no help at all. Please help!!! :crying:

  2. The IRS desk at the London Embassy may be worth calling. Can't really tell from the web page >>>> http://london.usembassy.gov/irs/index.html

Ha it's funny you mentioned this, because I asked her about that and she didn't know what I was talking about and did her best to make me look stupid! I finally ended up getting connected to the International IRS department which was such breath of fresh air! The lady I spoke with was VERY helpful! She ended up faxing me 2009 and 2010 to our fax machine in Ireland, no problem at all. I wonder if they are allowed to do more because they deal with international requests? Regardless, she saved us a lot of stress!

So I guess I still have to wait for 2011 because she wasn't able to access it now either. She suggested I refile since I can't find my copy that I sent in, not that NVC would accept that anyway, I'm assuming, could I be wrong about that? I don't feel right about refiling, as it might prolong waiting for the return. I think I'll give it another week and see what the progress is.

Thank you everyone for your help! :)

  3. Hi guys, I ordered my 2009, 2010 transcripts online last week and I rang the IRS to get an update today. Well the 2nd woman I spoke to to on the phone at the IRS was incredibly rude to me, she made NVC look like complete angels! She told me she couldn't give me any info on any updates about anything, whether the transcripts have been sent, when they were sent, and so on. I also asked her for an update on my 2011 taxes as they are unavailable online and she told me to just wait. End of story! I have never spoken to anyone who was so rude and unhelpful! If I didn't know how to phrase something, she would cut me off and condescendingly ask 'Ma'am what exactly are you trying to ask me?'

I asked for a 2nd time if they could fax them to me and they said no because I live abroad. Guys I'm getting really down about this , we thought this was going to happen by the end of Summer but its looking like it's not. I take responsibility for not having this together sooner, but I honestly didn't know my tax returns were required, or you bet I would have had them ready! The I864 form is ready to be sent out except for my tax returns. What do I do? :crying:

  4. They NEED the most recent one, which is that of 2011. 2010 and 2009 are optional.

Many petitioners actually file single, and just amend their tax returns once their spouse arrives in the US and gets his/her SSN.

Thank you for that. I'm not worried about the Single status anymore, just that I get the 2011 finished asap! Wish this was over and done with at this point!

  5. We got a notice from the NVC inquiry this morning that our DS3230 was accepted and that I am now the agent for my husband. I haven't received any info from them yet regarding the bill pay, but they did say they would be sending the information to the address we chose - will they also send the invoice to my email like the AOS fee? Or should I call to find out if they've generated the invoice and number?

Ours came a few hours after the first email. I wouldn't worry, give it a day. :)

  6. We just submitted the email yesterday about choice of agent to NVC, so we want all our paperwork prepared. I stupidly thought since my mother who is a USC living/working in the US was the joint sponsor, her tax info was the only one that mattered since I work/live abroad. I have everything needed from her but now it's just down to me. I also made a big mistake by filing Single as advised by an IRS agent 2 years back since my husband has never lived/worked in the US and does not have a SSN. Now I have to do the 1040x on all 3 years just to change the status ahhh! :crying: The worse thing about this is, the IRS agent gave me no advise on what to do from here, I only found out about the 1040x only by my investigation on VJ (thank God for VJ!) I'm having trouble getting any help when I call the IRS about my tax returns. I've ordered 2009, 2010 transcripts online but 2011 is not available yet. I would hate to call back again for anymore advice as it took 3 phone calls and a total of 2 hours ONLY to confirm the mailing address they had for my transcripts to be sent to which is here in Ireland.

I also asked if she could fax me my transcripts to save time and she said I needed a US fax number and I HAD to be present at the fax machine when she sent it! So I'm thinking this is going to add a good amount of time to our case... :(

My question is, will the NVC accept just 2009 and 2010 from me and 2011, 2010, 2009 from my mom or do they NEED 2011 from me as well? If it's not ready by the time I've sent all of the 1040x forms into the IRS, what do we do then? I can't believe I filed single, will they accept it without me having to amend my returns with just a letter explaining why I filed 'Single'?

Thanks in advance for any advice, it's greatly needed at this point! :D

  7. Absolutely elated!

Thank you everyone for all the great advice along the way, we really couldn't have done it without VJ and all of you, you're awesome!!! :D

My next question is we sent the choice of agent email but I'm a bit worried. I live abroad with my husband (beneficiary) and my mother is a joint sponsor. We have all of her tax info that's required but now I hear I will need mine too??? I thought since my income didn't matter I wouldn't need to provide a W2 or tax transcript. I've been filing abroad but haven't gotten any confirmation. Stupid me, I thought that was normal since I didn't owe any US taxes. I'm now on hold with the IRS for 30 mins to see what the story is. Please someone make me feel better and say that this isn't so! Just another bump in the road eh?

  8. Amber,

Congrats on getting it received at NVC...I am still waiting! Tick tock tick tock.

As for calling them, I imagine calling from abroad could get expensive, as I call from Spain too, but I think you should get Skype on your computer. You can call land lines in the States for something like 1cent per minute. You just set up a Skype account and put $10 credit (I thnk thats the minimum and you will probably spend it by time this process is all over!) and then can call for almost free. Hopefully you can do that - I know I couldn't live without it!

Let me know if it works out for you!

    Amanda

Heya thanks for that, I put €10 calling credit on there and only spent €.20 on one call so that was great, thank you! Still no case number yet will have to wait til tomorrow to try again!

:ot: Where in Spain are you located? We were looking into doing the Camino before we ship off :)

Also if you have gmail you can call anywhere in the United States for free through your computer, so maybe try doing that?

Thanks for the tip. Do you know how to do this? I tried before when it first came out and I swear I needed a US phone number to register?

  9. Just rang them last night, apparently the case was received that day! Yay! :D

The girl was very flat with me there was no other information she could provide and it could take another 20 business days JUST to get a case number!!!! I would call every day but I'm in Ireland and its getting expensive! Do they answer emails or do you have to call?

We're visiting Scotland for a few days this week so that's going hopefully keep my mind busy while we're waiting lol.

  10. I had the same concern as you are having. Everytime I called NVC, I was told petition not received. Turned out, NVC did have my petition and I got my case # bit of over one month after NOA2. So relax, you should be ok.

Good to hear I'm not alone, I know some of us out there have been waiting even longer so I should just suck it up but it's hard! So based on what I see here, NVC could take an average of 1.5-2 months?!

I must remember, patience is a virtue! :)

  11. Hey everyone, I called the NVC on Tuesday (15th of May) since our NOA2 was approved on May 3rd. They said it takes at least 15 business days to even begin processing it and to call back on May 24th. I just feel like this is taking forever to get them to even see if the case has been received. The guy I spoke to was not the nicest, he seemed annoyed I was calling too soon, so I'm hoping they're not all like that? I want to call Monday to get an update, is it still too soon or should I just wait until the 24th like he said? Ahhhhh the stress!!!! Thanks everyone :D

  12. I know I got my NOA2 pretty quick compared to a lot of people on here, but I still hate this waiting game just as much as the next person! Ahhh! :crying: As you can see from my timeline, NOA2 was approved May 3rd, but no hard copy in the mail yet. Should I give NVC a call to see if they received my petition and if we have a case number yet, or is it too soon? Thanks in advance!

  13. For us, the biggest reason we want to move back to America is lack of opportunity in Ireland. It seems like no matter how hard you work here, you will not be promoted like you would be in America, also the pay is much less. It was much better back home even during the recession. I know this because of my previous jobs there and from what I see my friends achieving with less work than I am doing here! Quite frustrating to say the least! :bonk:

Second for me personally, is the weather. I really miss the sun! My husband and I really feel depressed hearing about how all my friends and family are already having BBQ's and wearing tank tops and flip flops while we're stuck here wearing big coats, and having an electric blanket on 24/7! I remember in late October back home, you could walk barefoot on the sidewalk and still feel the warmth from the day! On the plus side, the Winters in Ireland are mild, compared to the snow storms Utah has!

Third is we live in a very small studio, for the price we pay here for rent, we could get a really nice home where I'm from.

Ireland a great country when it comes to socializing and the travel opportunities are endless! We love Ireland and Europe greatly, but our lives will be much better in the long term if we move to the US.

  14. Thank you everyone!!!! So excited we went out for a nice celebratory meal :) Feels like its happening so fast! (no complaints haha)

I got my NOA2 last night; shortcuts to the next stage would be awesome thanks :-)..

OP: How is your Hubby taking his medical early? I am wanting to do this also as the only place I can do this is 4 hours away and I will be there late next week.

Heya, Dublin Consolate lets you do it at the clinic no problem without a case number or NOA2. I believe it's good for a year but this is the only dr in Ireland so we've heard he gets booked up pretty fast. We want this done as quick as possible so I'm hoping this will be useful. Maybe check if you can do the same?

  16. Hey Pumpkin, From the most recent Dublin Embassy reviews (link below) on here they seem more than happy to take Cash Dollars for the amount at the Embassy counter which is much more helpful and practical, thats what I will be bringing, so happy days

    Cheers

    Brian

Wow seems easy enough thank you for the link Brian! :) Did you start the process recently? I'm hoping that sending everything to the Chicago lockbox doesn't prolong the process too much!
