  1. I didn't have the exact same problem as you, but something similar.

I didn't put my "whole" work history on the G325A, as I was wrongly advised that it will impact my AOS.

The IO never asked about it, and it never came up during the interview.

But I was nonetheless prepared to answer that question if it came up (had all my W-2's with me)

    I really wouldn't sweat it!

Just don't lie if asked during interview.

Working without authorization is forgiven for someone in your situation.

  2. Another lesson to learn from this is to never go to any kind of interview after having a couple of drinks!

    Many people here were asking:

"Why would she sign such a document if she really entered the relationship in good faith ?"

Well, my question to them is the following:

"Why on earth do you think she wouldn't sign if her judgement was impaired ?"

  3. Congrats everyone. Its good to read the different interview experiences.

I am still waiting for a 2. interview notice. So unfair - to be in limbo because of weather.

I'm sure it's a horrible feeling not having a closure on this and reading all the approvals from your fellow October-filers, but keep your head up!

Your new notice is probably around the corner!

At least it's not so bad that you at least have your EAD in hands.

Personally, when I got my EAD I stopped counting the days and the interview date slowly crept up on me!

I was too busy looking for a job!

I literally gathered the needed docs 2 days before the AOS interviews

  4. Like Bob, I don't think it's necessary or wise to carry your green card or social security card in your wallet.

You don't need to present your green card at the store when buying groceries, at the gas pump or to catch a taxi or a bus.

The few instances someone needs to present his green card are to travel internationally, to get a new driver's licence, to a potential employer or when applying for a new social security card.

If someone absolutely wants to carry his green card all the time for whatever reasons, then it's wise to keep the original in a safe place at home and only carry a copy in your wallet.

  5. Folks, my interview went well this afternoon, and I was recommended for approval.

I will share with you the highlights of my interview, with the hope that it might help some of you.

Got to the USCIS office around 1:10pm this afternoon.

I was about 20 mins early for my appointment (I'm not usually that early lol).

At around 1:20pm, I got my lil backpack full of evidence out the car and my wifey and I headed to the doors for a big face-off! lol

In the waiting room there was just one more couple waiting, and not much going on.

It was kinda boring in there, so my wife and I just started talking about anything and everything, hoping that the clock will spin faster...and it did! lol

It was almost 1:45 when a nice lady in her early 50's called my name.

While I was pulling my lil backpack in the hallway she said: "I see you brought all your evidence with you"!

From that comment, I knew we ended up with the nicest lady in the whole building, and I couldn't be happier.

As we were passing this other IO's office, a young couple that was accompanied by their lawyer, and called in less than 10 mins before us were just being separated for probably the dreaded "stokes interview".

The lawyer remained in the room with the wife while she was being interrogated by the officer.

(They were still not done with her when we left the building...ouch!)

When we got in my IO's office, she swore us in, then asked us for our ID's.

Then followed a series of questions, all in a nice and relaxed atmosphere.

    - Our names, date of birth, date of marriage

    - Last date of entry in the US

    - My original status, degree obtained and current occupation

    - Couple of Yes and No questions on AOS form

    - How we met (she was real impressed on how I proposed. I gotta admit I kinda went the whole nine yards with the proposal lol)

Then she took a look at the entire wedding album and some extra pictures we brought, while we were literally chatting with her.

Then she asked our future plans as a married couple, collected more evidence to add to our file, then said she was recommending us for approval and briefed us on the next steps for removal of conditions.

    I was like nice!

    Whoohooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The whole interview was less than 30 mins!

Now it's the beginning of a new journey.

In the meantime, I wish the best to my fellow October-filers, as well as all those who are going through the AOS process.

  6. WOW. Actually if I hadn't been thinking beyond I as you put it I would have left years ago...but you know nothing about that as you know nothing about me or my situation.

Why would 'they' give me trouble traveling on VW for a holiday if I have done everything correctly by handing in my greencard and filling in the correct forms (which is why I posting here in the first place)?

As for future people who come into my life who may just die if they didn't get to live in the US...not everybody has a hankering to leave their country and way of life for America you know.

I have read a few times you spouting off about getting citizenship and 'selling' it....not sure what you are going on about there.

As for a projected pissing match between the pres the premier and no longer being able to travel on VW.....oh well guess I'll go on holiday elsewhere 'shrug'

Finally, you may find my "POV narrow-minded and short-sighted." but I'm actually seeing very clearly thank you very much.

Obviously you love it here and America has been good to you otherwise you spout this kind of ####### whenever someone makes a post about leaving....maybe you didn't read my post well enough where I said all my family, friends and work are in the UK, why on earth would I stay here?

I did not marry my husband for an opportunity to live in America or to give anyone else the opportunity to live here off my back....

My thanks to those who actually answered the question I asked, it was very helpful....I am leaving next week so will sort the form out as soon as I can :)

    Well put!

  7. Your I-94 is valid for the duration of your stay.

If you look carefully on your I-94 you will see the letters: D/S (duration of stay)

As long as you are going to school, you don't need to renew your I-94.

Even if you fall out of status, you still don't need to renew it (I think)

All they need to do is to make sure you are back into SEVIS.

If you are out of status, that means you are not into SEVIS system anymore, because the school you are attending remove your number in the system, and you need to get back in very quickly.

ICE could be after you, if you don't handle this in a timely manner!

Talk to the international school official at your university.

He should be able to reinstate you.

Or at least guide you through the process.

  8. If you read OP's post he mentioned how can he provide the Bank statment from Somalia, its not even available, means he has no bank account.

OP was willing to pay for his room, board and school for his cousin, so OP who is working here in US will have to show hardhsip, which would be hard to prove, coz based on OP's ssn and taxes he filed in US will have to reflect the hardship.

    Hope I am making sense.......lol

    Makes perfect sense.

In this case, OP has to provide evidence he/she can support cousin and pay for tuition and fees for at least a year, and use that bank statement to apply for an I-20 and the desire school institution.

  9. 1) Lie - tell them you plan on leaving when you get done. WORST idea ever. Never lie to IO, they record all of your responses and you don't want this coming up later during AOS.

Circumstances in life can change, and I don't think it will absolutely be an issue when applying for AOS.

For instance, someone can go to school here, get a job, then apply for AOS through marriage to USC or his company.

I don't think USCIS will deny AOS based on the fact that you said you were going home after your study.

Also, something important to know is that student visa is dual intent.

  10. First, thanks for the replies. About the financial situation, cant he just stay with me during this study here in the States? I mean I can take care of his financial needs. Furthermore, he wants to work, if legally possible, part/full time job on campus or away from the collage/uni. Btw, how is someone who lives in Somalia meant to bring a bank statement? They don't even have one.

Yes, he can live with you.

Just be prepared to show proof you make enough to support him financially (rent, food, transportation, etc...).

Also, it's important he provides financial proof he can afford at least one year of tuition and fees.

If he can't find a bank statement, he needs to find something else (not sure what exactly).

Otherwise the school will never give him an I-20, and without an I-20 he can't even apply for a student visa abroad!

As far as work, he can work on campus only.

    20 hrs max per week.

Work outside the campus is not authorized, although many people do it at their own risk.

If he shows financial hardship, and provides enough evidence that his sponsor back home can't pay for his tuition and fees anymore, he might be able to get a permit to work outside his campus.

But he needs to show financial hardship! (not easy to show)

  11. Hey! Maybe they're finally getting rid of the second email which was redundant to the first, and only sending two now; one that says production order and one that says mailed notice. That is an improvement :) Just goes to show you how fast things can change at USCIS.

    Hum...maybe not!

    This is what I got:

"On January 3, 2011 we ordered production of your card..."

"On January 6, 2011 we ordered production of your card..."

  12. Thanks so much for prayers and well wishes

Just got home from a rather eventful day to say the least. Got to the interview of time - waited to be called then once we were - met with IO who was NOT friendly AT ALL. At that point we were swored in and asked us bunch of stuff from forms, looked at our proofs and asked us to sign the forms. then he handed us RFE for certified deposition from traffic case back in 2008 (I didnt even know traffic violation can impact AOS but apparently it does . I explained that cases were expounged but he just told us that he will review the file once we send him that document. we immediately stopped by the court and got the papers he asked us so will send those in and then........ waiting continues.... :-(

    Anyone else ever experienced this?

Was it a "routine" traffic violation ?

(speeding, illegal parking, traffic lights violation ? )

Or was it something else ?

    (DUI maybe ?)

I also thought "routine" traffic violation are irrelevant when adjusting status.
