The good news is that we sent our application for Vinko's ROC last weekend and we got the NOA1 today! However, I just looked at timelines for ROC and see that biometrics appointments are usually scheduled for a month after applications are sent. Vinko and I are travelling to Chile on 10/9/13 and will be there for two weeks, and I am afraid that the appointment will fall during this travel.
I have seen a variety of posts on this, and it appears that people are successful in getting this taken care of by going to their local USCIS office early via walk-in, demonstrating the documents that show that the original appointment cannot be met. Therefore, I am hopeful that either the biometrics is scheduled before we leave or that we can do the walk-in option. Please, if anyone else knows about this, concur with information, especially anyone who's gone to the Cleveland office to do such! Your answers are highly appreciated!

My husband's POE with his K-1 Visa was through Miami. Actually, Miami can be more of a concern because there are so many "latinos" coming through that POE. It went well for him, they will take your wife aside and look at her packet of information and such, and this does take time. My husband spent 3 hours in immigration. Make sure when you make your travel plans that you have several hours between your Miami flight and your connection and things will go smoothly. Vinko had 7 hours between his flights, good thing that he did!
Sorry to hear you had problems through DFW, I always thought that entry went rather smoothly. Also have been through JFK a few times...

Thanks!!! I did need to hear that, it just seems like from most people's feedback on here that the darn thing is so easy to get and nothing we've done for our process has been easy!!! Thanks for relieving my tensions!

Well...followed all the rules here on VJ about how to get your SSN# after POE with a fiance visa and we continue to have pitfalls. Vinko and I went to get his SSN# yesterday in my hometown SSA office and they wouldn't give it to him because they are claiming that his documents do not match in the SAVE database. It is not an issue of him not being here in the States long enough, he has been here for working on four weeks. So they are in the process of "verifying" his documents, which can be a four week process. WHY US!!!!!! Nobody else I know of here on VJ has had this problem, it was "go get your number and your card is in the mail 10 days later" Maybe it is because I live in a "podunk" town...maybe it is because we are the "lucky" ones to be audited...who knows??? But every time I think about it I am pissed!!! Not one thing about our process has been streamlined!!! There is always SOMETHING!!!!

I got an RFE before NOA2 and it was because I needed to supply copies of all the pages of my passport to prove I was in Chile in the last two years before filing. The RFE is a heartbreaker, but it can be resolved rather quickly...especially if it is something little. Hang in there!!!!

Congratulations!!!

I do not get how you all are supposed to be adults. Everyday I read a new topic about someone who is waiting. Most are whining like little babies about how long you have to wait and it is your right to get processed right away etc etc. Some people even start crying after only 2-3 months.
I don't think the staff at the service centers are working slow on purpose. Most likely there have been a lot of applications coming in and we have the the straight up fact that Americas economy is very bad right now. So I don't think they are putting their last bucks on hiring more staff to help our love lives.
It's a few months of your lives and then you will hopefully spend the rest of your lives together. Relax and just remember what you are fighting for.
God doesn't reward the impatient!
I see that you have been waiting a good long time for your NOA2, and if you look at my numbers, you know that I know what it feels like. So, instead of complaining about people complaining, maybe you can shed some light on what is keeping you sane in your wait. That is a good percentage of why people complain, it's due to trying to cope with the distance. If you believe you are doing well, let us know what you are doing so that others may benefit.

I've considered it just like many others to leave everything here to be there with him, but I did not want to leave my two little ones. Patience paid off and he will be here on April 22, so I get to have it all!

You are not alone! This pause between booking an interview and the actual interview (wooo! your day will come too!!) is throwing me off - there is no status to check up on and my little internet routine is suddenly so short... I felt extremely OCD the last few months!
Wow...off topic, but congrats for your interview coming up!!! Best of luck!

The answer to why he would go through so much to be with you is that some people are that dysfunctional to do just that, while maintaining their agenda of being with whomever, whenever. Not only would it really require trust on your part to stay, but a rebuild of how this guy sees life. My guess is he lacks the skills to regain your trust if he's willing to do something that messed up.

Felicidades!!!!!!!!
I told you it would happen! And no RFE's either, good for you!!! It is going to go so quick for you guys from here!!!

Typically the medical examination does not take place until you have Packet 3/4. Do you know which embassy in which your fiance(e) will have their interview? Basically what happens after you receive NOA2 is that the case is sent to the NVC (National Visa Center), who then sends the case to the appropriate embassy. The embassy takes charge from there, and they usually send the fiancee directly all instructions and application materials. They will also tell them which doctors to go to in order to complete the medical.

Have you called the Customer Service Line for USCIS and asked for a higher level of customer service? Have your fiance do this, but even if action has been taken, I think USCIS waits to send out "bundles" of notices, they sure do like taking their time. Better times await you, the embassy in Santiago is very easy to work with!

Just wanted to let everyone know that on this sunny, slightly fall day in Chile that my Vinko and I were approved for his K-1 visa today in Santiago!! I will be sure to tell the details soon of the interview at the Embassy...but I have to catch a plane back to the states, first.....
But, I am telling you, I literally did the happy dance of joy at the interview window at the embassy! Hoping to have Vinko with me in at least one month...thank you to everyone on VisaJourney for your support, don´t know what I would of done without this. Now on to getting married and adjusting status!!!

I have been royally messed with in this whole process. Vinko´s interview was cancelled due to Obama´s visit in Chile today. They are telling us to come during open hours on the 23rd. I hope this never happens to anyone else. I feel like a total fool. My anxiety has been taken to its limit. I leave on the 23rd and who knows if they will actually interview him that day??? WHY ME???????????????????????????

He should speak with those of us going through or just have gone through the K-1 visa process in the Chile portal...quite a few of us and most of us speak Spanish! Most people posting on here from Chile tend to be the foreign fiancee, which is most likely Spanish speaking.

Congratulations...you stuck it through and it paid off...so glad to hear it!

Yeah, that doesn't seem to make sense. But either way, you should email Montreal to see if you can get the materials to you another way. We are having a hell of a time getting packet 3 as well, but it has already been worked out with the Santiago embassy...

Already thinking ahead to when Vinko and I get married and what to do about name change. Maybe it is more simple than I think...but I think my situation is more complicated.
I worry about it because I am the US citizen who has put forth all the petitioning, etc. Currently, I go by my married name from my last marriage. I never changed it back because my passport had my married name, etc. and I need my passport available to be able to travel.
I want to go back to my maiden name when I marry Vinko, but I am afraid this is just going to cause a lot of frustration with regards to changing Vinko's status, etc.
In both Hispanic and Croatian cultures, married women do not take their husband's last names. However, it make more sense when working with USCIS again if I took his name instead of switching back to my maiden name. Keeping my previous married name would definitely not be an option!
Anyone ever deal with this?

You are in my thoughts...I had a long wait and RFE as well. Believe it can happen, don't give up...and it will happen!!!

Hello all,
I'm pretty new to the site, and I'm really pleased with it. The information, the support - amazing!
I'd like to introduce myself and my story:
In 2008 I studied abroad in Santiago, Chile. During that time I met my fiance, Carlos. After the semester, I had to go back to the states, but we kept our relationship strong despite the painful distance. The next summer I was able to spend 3 more months in Chile with him, and had to return to the states yet again. He then applied for a tourist visa to visit me for Christmas in 2009. His visa was denied. After I graduated I moved to Chile, and we've been happily living together and working in Santiago for about a year now. This December he proposed (soooo excited!) and we are now on our visa journey hoping to be married in Wisconsin in June of 2012.
Greetings and valentine's wishes to all!
Nice to see you on the site...quite a few of us Chile people on here. My fiance and I had problems getting a tourist visa for him as well. I actually hear that people who do actually demonstrate ties to Chile have problems getting tourist visas. So you spent a year there? Why are you deciding to come back to the States? If for some fluke we don't get approved, I am actually thinking about living a few years there and directly filing through the consulate. Just curious...saying that you've lived there and all...welcome!

I know how it feels to get an RFE after waiting so long, but like everyone else says, the turn-around is really quick and when approved, then things can really start moving!!! It almost takes you by surprise!! Concentrate on hope!!!

Totally off the subject of AOS, but I saw that you married on the winter solstice...our K-1 interview date is March 21...good luck for this then for the vernal equinox

The first six months of the process has been full of fearful, gut-wrenching times. And when I got my RFE after waiting for five months, I just thought this process was done and "we" were done. But then I realized that knowledge is power, this site has been verrrrrrry helpful...and to procure the attitude of "this is going to happen no matter what"...then things have been much easier. There is nothing worse than having fear of an unknown, seemingly unfriendly process. Of course, it sucks being away from your loved one, especially when you don't get to spend so much time with them in the first place...I've been away from mine for 8 months. But then again, I've been shown how strong my relationship is also as a result of this process. It is a lot of up and down...but I am really hoping to say at the end of it all that "it was worth it"...much like giving birth to my two lovely boys...
