  1. I had the same question what I was submitting my packet. We didn't have any forms signed by a civil surgeon here or even a panel physician there. my husband did the physical there, and when he arrived he handed it all over to the immigration officer at the airport. We opted not to do another physical and to hope that everything got to USCIS correctly. it was definitely a risk, but worth it, as we never had any problems with the physical, and my husband got his green card without having to do another physical or anything in the US.

  2. Hello all,

My husband was approved for his green card about 3 weeks ago (August 18th). Since then we moved to a new apartment. We were living with my parents. We haven't gotten his green card yet, but at most we will be staying in this apartment for a year. We are only about 30 minutes away from where we were living before, and since it's my parents' house we can still get mail there, and we actually still stay there about once a week when we visit them.

How urgent is it for him to change his address?

    Thanks!

  3. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a state ID or driver's license, and since he doesn't know how to drive, I haven't added him on my car insurance. We do have some things addressed to him or both of us at the same address. Also, I took out a loan recently in order to establish some credit, and named him as the beneficiary. We also added a phone number for him on to our family plan cell phone service. Would these things (plus photos and bank account) and maybe a sworn affidavit be enough? Also, would things like our wedding registry documents, or contracts for our wedding (that have both our names on it) be useful?

    Thanks!

  4. My husband has been here since April 7th, and we got married in city hall on April 20th, but our big wedding is coming up soon on August 14th. Our interview is scheduled for August 18. We just received EAD and AP today (exciting!).

The problem is, we don't really have any joint documents. We are young (24) and living at my parents house, so don't have a lease. We do have a joint bank account, but that's it. I know I have to bring that evidence and photos and such, but what other official documents can I bring? we have ring receipts, and I changed my last name (got a new ss card and driver's license with my new name), but will that with photos and the bank account stuff be enough? I don't have health insurance, so I obviously didn't add him to mine.

Any suggestions of other official documents we can bring????

I want to try and get this done sooner rather than later, but things are hectic! They scheduled the interview for four days after our big wedding! As if planning a wedding isn't enough now we have to deal with gathering evidence!

    Thanks for your advice!

  5. My husband had his medical in peru, but of course was not given a copy of the DS-3025 (and when he called the doctor the doctor claimed that he was not allowed to give my husband anything and everything went straight to USCIS).

In any case, i've been calling doctors to get the i-693 vaccine part filled out, and realized I wasn't sure about the skin test. My husband didn't have a skin test abroad, just the chest x-ray. Is the TB skin test absolutely necessary? We found one place that will transcribe his records for $60 (the cheapest i've found and I've called about 15 places) or a place that will do the whole medical (with TB test) for $120. Should we just do the whole medical again? or is it enough that USCIS should (supposedly) have his medical records from his physical abroad and just send in the i-693 with only the vaccine part?

I wish the doctor in Peru had just given us the Ds-3025. ugh.

  6. I'm still confused about all of this. The dr. in Peru didn't give my husband any official immigration papers, just a doctor's paper with what vaccine's he gave him.

I'm pretty sure his vaccines are complete. The thing that's confusing me now is the TB test. They didn't do a TB skin test, just a chest x-ray. If my husband goes to just get his vaccines transcribed onto the i-693, should he get a TB skin test from a local clinic before that and bring proof of that too for the dr. to transcribe? Or just not worry about the TB skin test until he maybe gets an RFE?

I found a dr. that does a whole physical for $110 which seems pretty reasonable to me or a dr. that transcribes the records for $60. I'm kind of leaning towards spending the $110 just to be on the safe side although I'd really like to avoid it?

  7. Hi all,

I don't meet the income requirements for the i-864 for my beneficiary husband. We were planning on having my dad joint sponsor him, as he makes plenty (he was the co-sponsor for the k-1 visa).

So as I'm filling out the i-864 I see the part about household income. My husband and I are currently living with my parents. So, instead of having my dad fill out another i-864 as a joint sponsor, should he just fill out the i-864a as part of the household? Or should he do that and still fill out another i-864 as a joint sponsor. I'm confused!

    Thanks!

  8. Ok, so just to clarify since ReinitaRey and I are in the exact same situation (same civil surgeon in Peru), here is what I understand. Our civil surgeon didn't give my husband any forms (no ds-3025), just a doctors form that shows what vaccinations he gave him. My husband also has his vaccination records from when he was a baby.

So we need to find a civil surgeon and have him transcribe the vaccine records onto part 2 of the i-693 and then sign part 5?

    Is this correct?

Also, just out of curiosity, what is all this stuff? I mean, he did the medical exam in Peru, and I'm pretty sure completed all his vaccines, so shouldn't that all be in his file (the packet he gave at POE)?

Also, I had also been confused about this, but didn't hear about ds-3025 until I started my AOS research (after my husband got here). I feel like it should say something on the directions for K-1 about making sure you get a DS-3025 from your CS abroad. I spent copious amounts of time on this website just browsing and reading about the K-1 process and never heard of that form (ok, please don't reprimand me or call me ignorant for this-- I just never saw anything, maybe it exists in some obscure corner of VJ). Has anyone ever tried having the CS abroad fill out the i-693 when they do the medical exam? Would this even work?

  9. ugh! someone needs to answer you because I had exactly the same question! I was just about to email you! I'm not sure that Jimmy even has a copy of his vaccination records besides the one that is really faded and from when he was a kid (you can barely read it). He got a few vaccinations in Lima, but I'm not sure that he has a record of that. I'm so confused about this part!

  10. Hmmm, so the SSN office near us stated that since we got married that they can not issue a SSN to her. She said that she now isnt a K-1 visa holder due to our marriage.

    Is this right?

They REALLY need to give people out here a set guideline of what to do step by step.

    1. Enter the U.S.

    2. Apply for your SSN card

    3. Get married

    4. Submit AOS package.

I mean come on, this is just not right to throw people to the wolves!

    /rant off

Is this true? I hope not! We got married last week and my husband is going in tomorrow to get his SSN. I hope they give it to him. He really needs it so that he can take his driver's permit test and start learning how to drive!

At what point are we supposed to do it if you can't once you are already married? when you get NOA1 from AOS?

  11. I haven't been on here in forever, but now that we're approaching AOS I guess I'm back!

Good luck to everyone with upcoming interviews! try and stay calm!

Jimmy (my now husband!) got here in April 7th and we got married on April 20th. Now we are finishing up AOS papers to submit those. It's so unbelievably wonderful having him here, and (amazingly!) it feels like those months apart never happened!

So for all of you still in the process, it gets much much easier. I'm not even worried about how long AOS might take, because I already have the love of my life in my bed every night. Just keep looking forward to when you get to be with your love!

  12. My fiance received his k-1 visa today (picked up from dhl) and noticed that they misspelled my (petitioner's) name on the visa. Apparently they wrote "Osephine XXXX" instead of "Josephine XXXX". Is this going to be a big problem?

I hope not. His flight is on Wednesday night. He'll go to the embassy first thing tomorrow morning, but ugh.

  13. My fiance is arriving on his K-1 this week. I want to get him some health insurance just to be safe. My insurance doesn't cover spouses or domestic partners.

The main hiccup is that he has chronic asthma. He has not been treated for it since August 2009 when he was hospitalized with pneumonia. since then he only has an inhaler that he uses in emergencies, which is rarely.

Anyways, I found a travel insurance that will possibly cover his asthma if he has an "acute onset" of his condition up to $15,000. Has anyone found a health insurance that will cover someone with asthma? The insurance I'm looking at is called Atlas America. It's a travel insurance, so I pay one rate for the amount of time I want, not a monthly rate. It's significantly cheaper than if we bought something like, blue shield, but i don't think it covers doctor's visits. We are mainly worried that the change in climate will somehow affect him and he will be hospitalized, so hospitals are the biggest worry anyways.

Any suggestions or advice? I'm new to the world of health insurance anyway, and now adding in immigrant health insurance. eek! any help is appreciated!

  14. Wow! That was quick. Congratulations! It seems like just yesterday you were RFE'd.

    :)

Yeah, it was quick. My fiance's interview was exactly 3 weeks from NOA2. Luckily, the Lima consulate is fast, and I emailed them as soon as they got my petition and asked for an interview date. They gave me one for 5 days later! it was a struggle to get the birth certificate and medical done in time, but Jimmy pulled it off! yay! He'll be arrive in 9 days!
