Wow, never imagined the FBI would shut down.. you think they will just send CBP home too and everyone at the border including the terrorists will just come and go as they please till they sort it?

Every Federal Agency has its own Shutdown Procedure, Essential personnel are excluded from any shutdown.

I wouldnt worry about that, congress have extended the deadline for a new budget a few times already. I dont think its likely there will be a government shutdown.

Nice to see some more of the Texas lockbox people getting their oaths, seems ages since I did mine!

It took awhile for me to get the oath date letter... which drove me crazy.

Then I was hoping it would be May because I have to take my daughter to her dentist and I requested to take the whole day off so I could just take final test for my school in the morning.

Well I got the letter today and it's on 4/12!

Well. so I will be taking extra days off BUT I don't care! I can't wait to get this done and out of the way! Yay!!!

Yesterday I recieved my new US passport just 22 days for processing - not bad! I was able to track the entire process online at the state.gov website. I also recieved another social security card the same day, having updated my status after my oath.

Congratulations to everyone who have passed their interviews and good luck to everyone else.

Sometime yesterday or today my wife's status changed from RFE sent on Nov 2, 2010 (fingerprints) to:

As an Aussie we don't have to become USC do we? I do not want to give up my Aussie citizenship and plan on just being a permanent resident here as who knows what the future may hold. I am not giving up my Aussie passport and don't really want a US one.

No you dont have to become a USC, I don't think even if you did that you would have to give up your aussie passport though. Living here as a LPR is fine, you just have to renew your green card every ten years!

He doesnt know what he is talking about.. take it from a UKC/USC who is well over 18 years of age and as of this month has dual citizenship!

Now neither country will officlally recongise "Dual Citizenship" but that doesnt stop you from carrying two passports. Its a fact that most UKC's wouldnt give up their citizenship and become USC's unless dual was possible as a British passport is one of the most valuable documents you can carry (given it gives you automatic entry to both the UK and European Union) to live and work without restrictions.

Yep the passport book can be used everywhere including the caribbean canada etc, its just the card thats limited. I didnt bother with it as I will already be carrying a United Kingdom/EU and US Passport anyways which takes care of everywhere I might be travelling.

So a US passport will cost me $25+$110...Am I right?

Yes, assuming you just want the passport book and not the passport card ($30). Personally I didnt bother which the passport card as you can not use it for air travel and its only valid between the USA, Canada and The Carrabean.

The cost for a expedited passport is $60.00.

Juat a couple of notes regarding this. FIrstly you will have to either visit one of the numerous post offices or city hall in Philly to apply for your passport as there is no representative from the passport agency at the oath ceremony. You can however apply to vote at the Oath ceremony.

Secondary you can only pay the service processing fee ($25) using a major credit card, the actual passport fee ($110) can only be paid with a check or money order (no cash for either).

Although they may tell you at the oath ceremony that they have an agreement with the passport agency for a free Expedited passport (within the first 30 days) for new citizens, nobody will honor that agreement.

I thought they "ask" 6/10 Qs...then have read one line ..then write it down....

My guess its up to the disgression of the IO. The IO specifically noted I was British, he just printed a sheet of 10 questions out and said "Just write the answers under the first six.." I wrote the answers down (probably in about 20 seconds) and then he just dropped a second piece of paper in front of me and said "Just write Columbus Day is in October".. he quickly ticked everything and that was that. Any other Brits with the same experience?

It was oral test and she did not ask any supporting documents to sbow although I had it. It took 10 min and after test she said you passed the test and ask if you are available for oath ceremony on March 02 at 11 I said sure than she printed out the oath ceremony letter.

I find it interesting that you got the oral test in Philly, perhaps it has something to do with if you come from an English speaking country at least thats the impression I got, as mine was all written and the IO pretty much just hurled the papers at me

Yes as others have said the national goal for USCIS to process a case is 5 months, and most offices have been processing them during that timeframe, of course it differs office to office from sending off my application to oath ceremony was only 3 months and 1 day for me at the Philadelphia office. I did early biometrics and believe my case was pretty straight forward (filing based on 5 year). For others espcially if there is any name change involved or if filing based on 3 year marriage, that will complicate the case and thus take longer.

Okay dont worry yet. If you did a lookup at https://www.sss.gov/RegVer/wfVerification.aspx and it returned no results, the reason is probably because they dont have your social security number

to reference it to your SSS number.

Give them a call on 1-888-655-1825 and have a representative search their database for your SSS number (NOTE for many INS automatically registered you),

Give the representative the city and state you lived in when you applied for LPR and your last name and in most cases you will find you were registered by INS. You can then give them your social security number to add to their records which will then allow you to look it up on the site. They will also mail you a postcard as proof.

Greetings All,

Today I had my interview in Philadelphia, Got there around 10:10AM for a 10:20AM appointment and was quickly called in by my IO within less than five minutes of waiting.

The IO swore me to tell the truth, went through the application and then printed out a sheet of 10 questions. He told me to only answer the first six questions which I had to answer by writing the answers under the question, absolutely no oral questions were asked whatsoever.

Questions on the test were as follows:

1. What did the Declaration of Independence do?

2. Name one branch or part of the government.

3. We elect a U.S Senator for how many years?

4. If both the president and the vice president can no longer serve, who becomes President?

5. What does the Presidents Cabinet do?

6. How many justices are on the Supreme Court?

The IO followed up with a quick one liner that I had to write:

"Columbus Day is in October"..

And with a few clicks of the mouse he advised me that he was recommending my application and printed out my oath ceremony letter which is dated for 2/9/2011 (Next Wednesday)

I have to admit I was pretty impressed with Philly's processing times. Next Wednesday it will all be over!

Hey guys , I just got a email and text msg that mine case hass been transferred to local office for interveiw. My local office if Philly anybody s from same office . I am waiting for Interveiw letter any Idea when I will get it . I am so excited .

Check out my timeline in the November thread, I`m in York PA and my DO is Philly. Philadelphia for me has been pretty quick so far and I have my interview scheduled for 02/02/11.

You can download the questions/answers as a set of 100 mp3 files from the uscis website, that is actually exactly the same as the CD you will get at biometrics....

Update: Interview letter has arrived today, scheduled for 2/02/11....
