  1. We got it!

We went into the Application support office and started to explain the situation. The man interrupted me and said, "I'm a contractor. You need an apointment letter, I can'ta ccess anything."

So we went to USCIS down the hall and they didn't even let me talk. They said I needed an Infopass appointment to talk to them. She pointed to a machine. I went on the machine, but it said there were no more appointments for this day. She then told me to come to her window, she will make an apointment manually. Then I explained to her, and she said she would make the letters. She banged on her keyboard for about 10 minutes and then gave us two pieces of paper.

We took them to the application support office contractor down the hall and he took the finger prints, then we left. The whole process took 30 minutes and we were the only people there.

I'm glad I didn't wait 6 weeks like the tier 2 person wanted!!!

I was very happy with their service. Considering no one else was at the office, I would have been a little unhappy if they didn't atleast listen. : )

  2. We waited 30 days before calling, only to find out that they mailed the I797 to the wrong address and it was returned. I was sent to a tier 2 person, almost effortless on my part, and they then informed me that we missed our fingerprint appointment for the 131 and 485.

He said it would take at least 6 weeks to get a new appointment, and there was nothing he could do. He seemed tired and almost hostile while trying to explain it to me, yet was nice. I think they work to many hours or something.

He suggested I go to the address where I was supposed to go and see if they will accept us without an appointment, even though he said they can't do that.

I read here that a few people in a few offices had some luck, so we are excited.

We want to leave the country in 6 weeks so we need the I131!!!

I am really surprised that between thanksgiving and christmas the USCIS managed to give us the appointment in the first place. They broke my heart when they said she missed her appointment!

Any recomendations? We don't even have the 131, so we are preparing to brave it out with only our receipt number, passport, and our copy of the original paperwork.

  4. I mailed my forms Dec 03 and then got a NOA1 of Dec 06.

I checked my WAC number for about a month before I got angry and gave up. It kept saying the record wasn't valid.

Mari & Kadir asked me to check if I was touched, and I was about to tell her that my number didn't work.

Amazingly enough, it works and gives me a correct NOA1 date.

After registering for case updates, which I couldn't do before, it says "Last Updated" 03/22/2011. Is that a touch? Mari & Kadir wanted to know if I was touched.

Right now about all I feel is punched...so that is kind of like a touch I guess...

  5. How can I get an interview scheduled quickly after the consolate receives the information from the NVC?

Can I get the police reports before NVC sends the information?

What do I do if her address has changed since we started the process?

We can call every day to ask if the consolate has received the package, right? And when they have we can get the number and use it to mail the OF-169 checklist and DS-230 right away?

    Thanks,

    Grant

  6. My fiancee has visited twice from South Korea. Each time she has visited, she has never brought anything but my phone number. Each time they have questioned her for an hour or so, asking questions about employment, parents, and wedding plans.

The fist time she visited, she was just a girl friend. She said she was coming to visit her boy friend and they asked the nationality of her boy friend. That was what alarmed them.

I think people living in visa waiver countries might have an easier time getting in.

She is coming again at the end of April or May.

  7. I just got back from visiting my little lady in Korea. I asked the woman at the customs and immigration desk if I can go through the visa/green card line and she said YES, but it will take longer. Has anyone else gone through the line with a K1 visa holder?

These guys all seem to have different answers. One guy got mad at me for not declaring my candy, and then the guy at the declaration line told me candy didn't need to be declared and to go through the nothing line. I'm not really putting much stock into the immigration desk lady's comment...

She commented on how much more time it would take in that line. I was about to tell her that we would be traveling together, but I got my answer and she seemed ready to stamp the next guy's passport.

  8. Edit: I see you just got your application back. How stupid that it took two months to return it!!!

    ---

If it were me and my check wasn't cashed, I would stop payment on the old check and send in a new application with check. I would stop payment on the first check to reduce the possibility of two petitions in the system.

I feel really bad for you! Keep your stick on the ice!

  9. Why does it take the USCIS five months to do fifteen minutes of work? What business that charges you $455.00 to perform fifteen minutes of work, makes you wait five months for that work to be done, and gives you zero feedback on how that work is progressing would stay in business? Why does a government that is supposed to be the best one in the world work this badly?

And while we are at it, who the hell is the government to stand in judgment over my choice of wife anyway?

    You're a saudi prince? ^^; : )

The state of Alaska is charging me $500 a month property tax on a dump of a house that I bought 4 months ago. I bought the place for $127k after it had been on the market for TWO MONTHS, and the city has assessed it at $376k.

I have to wait until April to petition for a decrease in the assessment...and the paid taxes are PAID, no refund.

I actually feel a little more bitter about my property tax situation than the K1! ^^;; The K1 visa is a process that makes sense!

This isn't my first dance with the tax gods either. I previously bought a house for $300k@3% owner financed when market rates were 7%. It appraised for $250k. I agreed on the purchase price because of the lower interest rate. (he didn't want it paid off early he wanted the interest income)

What did the tax god say? 3% wasn't low enough to be significant, and the best indicator of value was what I paid...not what a licensed appraiser said. So, he lowered the value by about $70k, but not the full ~$125k that I wanted...

    So, government at work... ^^;;;

  10. Want a constructive suggestion? Here is one:

Let the IRS process these petitions instead of USCIS.

Sound crazy? Look at it this way: The IRS processes over 100 million tax returns in 3 1/2 months. Each one gets processed in under 5 weeks, less than 1/4 of the time it takes USCIS to process an I129f, despite the IRS having over 50 times as many filings to process as does USCIS.

AND the IRS does not require the $1,820.00 per hour the USCIS claims to need to break even. The IRS works for free.

Less than 1/4 of the processing time despite over 50 times the workload and no fees to pay for any of it! Hats off to the fine work at the Internal Revenue Service!

So what was that I read about how USCIS is government and that';s the way government is, so deal with it?

That would be horrible! You'd get a quick answer...but the full review would come later. You'd get an RFE 3 years later, and if they aren't happy...your special person gets deported.

(Then the officer says on the record "Another agent may come up with a different opinion)

Can you tell I have experience with those joyful people too? ^^; I didn't know the IRS auditors were supposed to have opinions... ^^; It's also convenient when the penalty is cheaper than the cost of fighting it!

  11. I guess I feel right now that it can't get worse...right? So I should be in good shape! 5 months or less!

I want to see the curve go back down. March? Here I come! ^^ If she isn't here for the midnight sun I am confident I will go crazy.

I'm just trying to be cheerful... It is pretty depressing to see people getting NOA2s 5 months to the day. That is just insulting. It looks like they are sitting on them and waiting.

What happened to the good ol' 3 month visas?

  12. Of course, thanks for the verification! :)

I used the exact same address that is shown above (...Suite 400...) with FedEx. FedEx warned me that it couldn't verify the address and that the package might not be deliverable.

I checked it several times, and tried changing Highway to Hwy, Business to Bus., etc. FedEx hated everything I typed.

So, I crossed my fingers and sent it. It was delivered with no problems.

Btw, with FedEx there wasn't enough room for the entire first line of the address. I used "2501 S. State Highway 121 Business".

  13. Where in the process can I change her name? Can it be before AOS? We are going to keep her Korean name, but add a first and last name.

Also, I want to add my Korean name to my legal English name. That is not important...

I would like to change her name before 9 months passes from when we are married.

    Just trying to think ahead...

  14. Mine arrived on Monday (Dec 6) morning and I received my NOA1 e-mail/text message Wednesday night. 2 days. FedEx said the address I entered was invalid, and warned me the package may not be delivered. I tripple checked it against the form instructions, crossed my fingers, and gave it to the courier.

My checking account still has $340 too much in it.

  15. I wish I had bought my little lady a laptop instead. ^^ I could have bought her a real nice one for her graphic design work... TT

Instead I sent her a 4 year old one and some chocolate...and I threw in a junk laptop for her sister so she can study English!

Apparently South Korean customs only allows one laptop in one box for a shipment to an individual! So my $250 laptop will be returned to me for $127 courtesy of FedEx... :bonk: TT I really hope someone messes up along the way and the package clears customs... TT
