Thanks for the quick response!

I have had obtained SSC years ago when I was in the US. When I arrived this year I did not change my SSC. However, I changed my new name when I got my EAD. The number was the same, and the only thing they altered was my last name. I still have printed "Valid with DHS authorization" though. Do I still need to go to the SSA to order a new card when I get my green card?

They both need to fill in the I-134, and the forms must have original signatures.
Good luck!

HEY GUYS, MY FIANCEE AND I ARE STARTING THIS WHOLE PROCESS AS WELL... AND WE'RE TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING ABSOLUTELY RIGHT SO THAT THERE'S NO MISTAKES AND THEREFORE AVOIDING THE PROCESS BEING SLOWED DOWN (HOPEFULLY)
MY QUESTION IS ABOUT THE QUESTIONS THEY ASK ON THE INTERVIEW... DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE LIKE WE NEED SOME EXAMPLES SO WE KNOW, AND WE WOULD MUCH APPRECIATE IT IF ANYONE HAS ANY TIPS FOR US ON THINGS LIKE WHAT NOT TO SAY!!
AND ALSO ONCE HE TRAVELS I UNDERSTOOD THAT AT THE AIRPORT BEFORE HE ENTERS THE US HE WILL BE PULLED ASIDE IN A ROOM A QUESTIONED, SINCE HE DOESNT KNOW THE ENGLISH TOO WELL WOULD THEY BE ABLE TO REJECT HIM & WHAT QUESTIONS WOULD THEY ASK HIM THERE TOO?!?!
REALLY HOPE SOMEONE COULD HELP OUT AND INFORMATION IS VALUABLE FOR US!!
WE'RE JUST A YOUNG COUPLE IN LOVE WHO .. REALLY HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS WORKS LOL AND NEED HELP
The interview is easy. They only ask a few questions like: What does your fiance do ? Where does he live ? Have you been to the US? What did you do ? When ? Where ? What do you want to do in the future ? Have you met his parents ? Has he met your parents ? Has he been in BG ? When ? How many times ? When do you plan on getting married ? Where ?
As far as entering the US in depends on where your POE is. I know that if you fly to Newark you get pulled in a room and get questioned. I flew to Chicago and I was asked questions when the IO checked my passport. They ask similar questions
.
Good luck!

Hey all,
I was hoping to get some advice. Long story short, my fiancee in India did not leave her place of employment on good terms (the Human Resources department specifically-- she had a good relationship with everyone else, including her managers). She had to take a few weeks off due to a medical problem, and we (her family and I) all advised her to resign now rather than later and focus on restoring her health. She attempted to do that but her company told her that she needed to have given them 2 months notice, and since she didn't, she now has to pay 2 months salary to them if she wants a "letter of experience" which basically states that she worked there. Now, she is an intelligent, skilled professional (software engineer) and I don't think that any place here in the U.S. would care about this "letter of experience" when considering her for employment (she would just list that time and work experience on her resume and provide specific people as references for them to contact if desired), so I advised her not to worry about that letter. But now we are wondering if this would play any part in the visa process, i.e. will USCIS or the consulate in India contact her company (since she listed it on her forms as being her current place of employment)? One would think that if that happened, there still wouldn't be a problem-- however, people are very corrupt over there and we are worried that the company (Human Resources specifically) might even say that my fiancee never worked there, if she does not pay them this money.
I don't think that leaving her job would have some kind of impact on the process, or USCIS would care. I personally would not care about the letter and I would not pay them money for a piece of paper.
Good luck!

You are very, very helpful!
He's got three more quarters before he's done with school, so basically another year. We are planning on living in Ohio.
About finding another co-sponsor together with his mom, I think I read somewhere that you can't have more than one, and they don't add up the petitioner's and the co-sponsor income, but they consider one of them the main sponsor and this main sponsor needs to be able to provide the needed amount. His mom will qualify in that manner, she makes enough and we could also put the house as an asset to make it indisputable. But I still think that he shouldn't be unemployed, it's too risky on the interview, in my opinion.
When I called the Embassy to ask them about it I spoke with a Bulgarian woman and she said "Oh, he has no income? Well the immigration law allows co-sponsors, also it allows you to prove you can sponsor yourself". I ask "And it is not suspicious that he's not working?" - she says "It's allowed by the law, the only way it could be suspicious is the credibility of the relationship itself. It's a complex decision and there are a lot of factors considered."
She was quite helpful and basically I felt better after talking to her, cause she made it sound like it shouldn't be a problem. But I don't want to risk anything you know! And by saying it's suspicious on our relationship, I think she means that it's suspicious if he's not willing to make anything to sponsor our new family? I guess..
So I guess it will be for the best if he finds a job after he's done with this summer job and even if it's not the best of all jobs, he will probably be close to 18K which is the Poverty guidelines for 2 people. And to back-up why he has no good employment history - well he was a student; why is he working a low-paid job - well he's still a student! (That's me playing out the interview in my head
)
Emi, before your husband started working in January, did he had any other jobs while he was studying?
Thank you!
Yes, he had 2 part time jobs at the uni. I was going to suggest you call the embassy which you already did. Still, they care more about real relationships, so I think that's what she meant. But as you said it's more safe if he has a job. Can't he get one while he's still studying? At least a part time job at the uni ? If you have some money saved you could get a bank statement, just in case. But you should be positive. I mean he's almost done with school, you have 5 more months to figure that out, and you'll be together at the end of the year
.
I'm not sure how the income matter works, but I think that even he's a bit below the 18k it should be fine if he has a job.
Welcome

Thanks for the reply!
What if he just goes back to university and is absolutely unemployed at the time of the interview?
Even if he does get a job, it won't be a very prestigious one yet I suppose...And I don't know about a letter from an employer providing that he would be planning to go back to university, so if he does get a job it will be a pretty temporary thing. Blah, I'm so confused!
P.S. Emi, Did you use a co-sponsor?
Yes, even though he makes more than they require we did have a co-sponsor.
However, I'm not sure how they'll look at him not working at all. Also, if he has money saved and any kind of assets he can use them along with evidence. His mom would have to prove that she can support you both, and other people that are depend on her. If you can also live with her (meaning you won't be paying rent ), it will probably be helpful! Another thing you can do is provide a second sponsor.
How long till he's done with school ? What state are you gonna be living at ?
Hope, I helped a bit

I think that as long as him and his mom combined prove an income above the poverty line it would not be an issue. When I had my interview in Sofia my husband had just graduated (in December ), and he got a job in January (not even a month when I had the interview ). You can ask his employer if he could write a letter, saying that your fiance is a good employee and could be re-hired.
Good luck!

We just mailed our packet and we put in " c 9".
Good luck!

You should be fine as long as the forms show that you are above the poverty line. Just make sure you bring as much as you can.
Good luck!

Hello!
I want to address Bulgarian VJ users who went through /or are still going through/ the K-1 process.
My fiance, the US citizen, is a full-time university student, so he cannot sponsor me (he will get a summer job but it won't be enough of an income).
We are planning on using his mother to co-sponsor us and she eligible as she has the required income and assets.
My question is , how do they look at this in the Consulate in Sofia, Bulgaria? (Because as I read here on the VJ forums, it's very different for every consulate). I called them and a very nice and informative lady told me they do accept that in general and I can even present proof that i am able to support myself, in addition and if applicable. So I am bringing an affidavit from my father (who is a Canadian citizen) that he would sponsor me, too.
I still have my doubts about what they really think of this though.
Any advice from people with experience in this is appreciated! Thanks
-
You can call NVC to find out if the packet has been sent to Sofia. Then you wait for instructions to be mailed to you from the embassy. However, you can start collecting paperwork needed for the interview, so you can schedule an appointment earlier.
Uspeh!

She can use the SSN and she does not have to change it when you get married. However, if she wants to change her name after marriage she'll either have to do that before I-94 expires, or when she gets the green card.
Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice so far. However, after taking the advice and crafting my section 18 of the I-129F to read:
"We met on a social networking website known as Tagged.com in late 2009. From there, our friendship grew to the point were it was decided that I would fly over to meet her. After spending 6 days with Amy and her family, I realized upon returning home that I didn't want to be without her and proposed via Facebook on 1-17-11. Amy accepted on 1-18-11."
Is a I-129F Supplement: Part B, Question 18, explanation of meeting in person really necessary? I think I was able to say everything that needed to be said within the space allowed on the I-129F. Thoughts and suggestions, everyone? Thanks in advance.
You should write this down on a separate piece of paper, explaining how you two met, when did that happen, how you met the parents and ect. Basically, anything important about your relationship.
Good luck!

Let pose a question. I already had a K1 visa 8 yrs ago. everything went well until she decided to divorce me (there's more to this story) the divorce has been final for over yr now. So now i'm going for another K1 visa. What are my chances of this being rejected or approved from INS etc..on my 2nd K1 Visa
My 2nd K-1visa just got approved ( the1st one did not work out and I came back before the 3month period). You'll be fine, just make sure you tell them about the previos K-1.
Good luck!

Hello VJ"s, My boyfriend and i are planning to get married in the philippines this year but i do have a question/problem.... He had a pinay girlfiend and he filed K1 last Febuary but sad to say they did not work out because his ex-gf got deny and the reason is she admitted something during her medical exam to the doctor ,,, And there is no way/ chance for her to go to US........ He moved on and she moved on... My question is, would it be a cause of problem for us when we file spouse visa after we get married?
It should not be a problem but I would suggest he writes a letter with explanation of his previous relationship when you file for CR-1.
Good luck!

Hi, Thanks ahead for reading this post and any advices would be appreciated. My fiance entered the US as a K1 Visa holder. Her k Visa now only has one more month before it s expired. We did not get married until now. Recently me and her got into a big argument and she left me to stay with her friend in the US instead of staying with me. She refused to let me know her friend, her address, and phone number. Now I have no way to find out where she is. What will happen if her K visa expire at the end of the month. Also what will happen if we still don't get married and I still have no way to find out where she is? Please help thanks.
If you don't get married within the 90day period, she'll become illegal. I'm guessing if you are a week late after this period it won't be that big of a deal, but still. Hope all works out for you, and resolve your issues!
Good luck

hi ,
I have applied for K1 visa and wanted to know if I have to engage to apply for K1 Visa
K1 visa is a fiance visa which means that you both should have intentions to get married once the visa is approved. So, yes, the engagement is the 1st step before you get married. If you're asking if that should be official, the answer is no. If you have an engagement ring the receipt from it should be included in the packet as proof for your future marriage and relationship.

Hi people!
Can someone help me about this information? For how long does the process for the k1 visa takes?
Thanks!
It usually takes about 4 months to get NOA2, and then about another month to schedule an interview. So, the whole process is 5-6 months!
Good luck!

July 7th....and nothing:(
If we dont get it soon, everything will slow down for Thanksgiving, then Christmas.....and for any other holiday or excuse these people have for not processing paperwork in a timely manner!!
My hopes of him being here for January are slowly disappearing.....perhaps February...
We filled in July 23rd, and no news yet. We are making plans to be there for Christmas, and now ...
Marriage name change?
in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas
Posted
In order to change your name you must fill in the AOS forms with your new name. That way you get your green card and EAD with your new name. It's normal that your maiden name is on the marriage certificate. We got married in Missouri, and I have my old name on the marriage certificate.
If you already have a SSC with your old name on it you can change your card when you have your EAD. That's what I did! Hope that helps and good luck!
