  1. Greetings.

Many times I feel so lucky to be a part of this website. There is so much information that is both encouraging and helpful. Does anyone know of a site, or forums where my wife can post, and read post from other people attempting to get a US visa? I just want her to be encouraged and informed just like I am when reading these forums. Thanks for the info!

Your wife can go to this forum http://foro.univisio...tesderesidencia

It is about residency procedures, and it is all in Spanish.

  3. Thanks for the input! Sounds like the x-rays aren't necessary. Do you guys know what happens at POE if we are asked for the X-rays and can't produce them? There must be a reason we were told to bring carry them by hand at the POE, right?

Nobody asked me for my x-rays at POE. They do not care about that. I did not even have it with me at that time.

They just care about the envelope.

By the way, my POE was Miami. Everything was very easy, very friendly people.

  4. I am Costa Rican, my husband is American. We got married in Costa Rica without any problems.

    You will need:

    Original birth certificate

Affidavit of single status (sworn statement attesting principally to your marital status) your lawyer can give you that document, you just need to sign it.

    Valid passport

    Divorce decree (if applicable)

The documents issued in the United States with the Apostille will be recognized in Costa Rica, without the need to come to the consulates or the Foreign Ministry in San Jose.

You need to take those documents to an official translator. I paid 10.000 colones per document.

You do not need to register your marriage anywhere.

We just paid $200 for our legal documents

    translations $60

    And that was it.

  5. Man I just don't get what it is you're trying to say.

He WAS given a 6 month leave from his work. Believe it or not.

He WAS given a letter of sponsorship from his job. Otherwise I doubt he would have been given a visa.

He DID say he was leaving for 6 months. No it wasn't paid leave, why would you assume it was?

You're really being nothing but nasty about the whole situation and aren't offering any constructive advice.

I can tell you for sure that he will be asked about why he stayed for so long.

I was in the same situation. I came to the States with a visa B2, and was given a 6 month permit to stay. I left after 5 1/2 months. When I got into the US again, I had to explain in detail everything I did during that time. I was interviewed by 3 different officers, and they went through all my stuff. Then, they let me go.

  6. Totally agree with the replies. Never never lie.

    Tell them the truth.

I got married in Costa Rica, and at that time I had my visa B2. My husband and I were living in Costa Rica. We traveled to the US to visit his family. At the port of entry, they sent us to a waiting room. Nobody talked to us, but they were watching our reaction and body language... anyway, after 20 minutes, we were called by an officer and he asked me a lot of questions. He did not let my husband talk. When he was convinced I was not going to stay, he was very friendly and let us leave.

I was completely honest, I did not lie.

Before I traveled, I asked my boss to write a letter for me, indicating the time I had worked for him, and my vacation time. That letter was very helpful.

The second time I traveled to the States, I went by myself because my husband was already in the US and I could not travel with him because of my job... the thing is that the officer was very rude and again, she sent me to a waiting room, they checked my suitcases, and asked a lot of questions. One of the officers was going to send me back to CR, the other one believed me, and let me go.

I am telling you this, so you can be prepared. Be ready, tell the truth, stay calmed.

    Good luck with that!

  7. ericanmark: I don't know if it is requirement but I have them just in case.

Thanks for all the well wishes!!!

Is your fiance the one who is divorced? If so, the divorce decree that the embassy wants is the one from the registro civil of Costa Rica, not the one that you get from the court house.

Maybe you know this already, but I wanted to let you know just in case.

The US embassy in Costa Rica is very easy, everyone is very friendly. Your fiance is going to be fine.

Good luck with your interview !!

  8. Does anyone knows what time the embassy of Costa Rica set up the appointments for the interviews k-1.I am still need the single certificate and police record but i have to go to San Jose and i will like to do it the same day of my interview. I noticed when i went to pick up my packet #3 that fiance Visa were schedule after 1pm its that true?

    Thanks for ur help :-)!!

I would recomend you to get those documents in advanced. When I went to get my marriage certificate, they had a problem with their computers and I had to wait for more than 2 hours.

    ¿Hablas español?

  9. I went to the doctor yesterday in San Josè, Costa Rica. I did not have my vaccination card with me.

It is true that not all vaccines apply to all ages, that is what the doctor said. I am 33 and I got 3 vaccines: tetanus, varicella and measles. I paid $50 for the physical exam and $110 for the vaccines. He said everything was fine, he gave me the sealed envelope, and that was it.

  10. It is very easy to track your package.

Your case was completed on June 9, 2011, so your file number is EXP 09 JUN 2011A.

    Go to www.dhl.com

    Click on:

    1. Express

    2. Tracking

3 Track by shipper's reference. You will see something like this:

    Track Using Personalized Shipper's References

    *Shipper's reference: EXP 09 JUN 2011A

*Date range for shipment Fom 06/06/2011

*Date range for shipment To: 06/25/2011

    Account Number: blank

Shipment Destination: the country of your spouse.

    And that is it.

  11. wooo i though you had to take that to the embassy? how am i gana get my fiances police record and the ds230 sent to the nvc when i dont have them yet, dont the police record have a 30 day time limit?

This is what I did: I sent the police certificate and the DS-230 by Fed Ex today. My husband will get the package tomorrow afternoon, so he can post it to NVC as soon as possible.

  12. I sent my Police certificate with my DS-230 to the NVC with English translation just to make sure no RFE. I went straight to Juridicial and bring my passport with me ( since i'm not a residence here) and told them that I'm going to use it for US embassy. For Costa Rica residence, they will ask your CEDULA.

I did what you told me and I did not have any problem!!!

I got my police certificate, the translation and the certification at the casa amarilla.

Thank you very much for your help.

  13. Funny That you ask because 50% your get this answer Yes send to NVC w. DS 230 20% will say only send Ds 230 to NVC and Certificate to embassy for interview

Guide line on Vj's said that all certificates Original Must be send to the NVC together w. DS -230 . I hope you pay the AOS fee and DS 230 .

I understand you are K 1 Im not Im CR 1 However regardless if you are planing weadding 90 days after your fiance get to US .

    MY best advice

    1) Follow Vj's Rules and add some twist to it.

All Certificates Original To NVC Remember all Spanish MUst be transalated by Agency and certify.

I send my USCIS PKG to NVC w. Forms Plust I have Original Copies for Interview .

    At the ENd

    USCIS All Proof

NVC COpies of USCIS File Plus Form Plus original certificates w. Certify Transalation

For the Embassy Im Merging first 2 steps

    Good LUck

    F

No, I am not applying for a K1. I am applying for the IR-1. My husband already paid the AOS DS230 fees and we got the cover sheets.

I asked because I know that before, Costa Rican filers had to submit the DS230 to the US Embassy along with the police certificate in Costa Rica.

I do not know if I still have to submit the DS230 to the US Embassy or to NVC.

If you read the link, you will know that Costa Ricans need to go to the embassy, get an official request, with that document I can get the police certificate.

    Thank you for your reply

  14. Can anyone tell me if I have to send the police certificate with the DS-230 to the NVC?

I read on the instructions that I have to submit the police certificate and the DS-230 to NVC http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

but I also read that I MUST bring a valid Police Certificate with me at the time of my interview to the Costa Rican embassy http://travel.state.gov/pdf/supplements/SNJ-POL-ENGL-0001-0709.pdf

I am very confused. What do I have to do now?

    Thank you in advanced!!

  15. The documents do not need to be translated into English.

"Note: All documents not written in English or in the official language of the country in which the interview takes place MUST be accompanied by a translation in English. Translations must be certified by a competent translator and notarized. Translations submitted to the NVC will be included in the applicant's case file." http://travel.state....3744.html#bring

If you would like, you can call to the embassy.

    Immigrant Visas:

Personal Interviews: Mon, Tue, Thu 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Walk-In Inquires: Mon, Tue, Thu 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Telephone Inquiries: [506] 2519-2188; Mon, Tues, Thu, Fri: 9:00 am - 11:00 am

  17. Hi curlyjes,I am Costa Rican and I had to validate my diploma too.

This is what your husband needs to do:

    1. go to "El Ministerio de Educación". Tell them that you need to certify your diploma for international purpose. You will need the original diploma, a photocopy of it and two 100 colones stamps (timbres de 100 colones).

They will tell him that he needs to certify only the photocopy, but that is not true, he has to tell them that he wants to certify the original too.

2.look for an official translator. This is the link where he can find one. with http://www.rree.go.cr/index.php?sec=servicios%20al%20publico&cat=servicios%20en%20linea&cont=576

    3. go to the "casa amarilla- Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores" to certify the original diploma, and the translation.

    4. Go to the US Embassy in Costa Rica to certify it. I think this costs around $100.00

And that is it! Good luck with that.

  18. I just need to know if there is anything I need to do to validate my husbands Costa Rican High school diploma to get a job in the US? Or can he use it the way it is when he applies for a job and they ask for it? It is in Spanish.
