  1. Good day fellow Canadians;

You know as well as I do that we yap off here and there, no worries.....that's what we do :)

You know as well as I do that we speak up when the ###### hits the fan right? dear God I hope so :)

In any event...there's a few things I just don't understand here....maybe the Canuckians can help me out with this lol.

There is 2 things about America I really just don't get lol.....and yes you already know number 1....this crazy health care ###### here....is just so out of control......a 5 year old kid can see it....but what the hell makes these Yanks so nuts on this issue?

Question 2......what the hell made them go stupid and beg for higher premiums (see: Roberts....US Supreme Court)

OK rant over on that....let's go to something else that makes me wonder....right or wrong....i just dont get it so maybe you cam help me here lol......

what is it....about the media here.....that is so friggen biased.....i mean dayum holmes.....im sure i can get better news in russia than what is here now....how did things get so wild one sided here....in canada we had maybe 3 channels....but you can make sure they fight it out a little bit right....it doesnt happen that way here....this media ###### is Hitler Germany and one story only.

    Am I nuts?

I'm sure the other Canadians can help me with this, there is nobody better that you......for insight....on these things.

    Viva la Canada!

    (and our American spouses lol)

  2. To my disappointment, I didn't know racism exists, until I came here.

This is an interesting topic, and many good viewpoints have been expressed here.

I'm sure racism exists everywhere, and that even includes the US of course. It seems like the last few years has escalated things in America though thanks to the uselessness in Washington, so what do us average blokes do. Being new (and might I add, legal!) immigrants.....we are mostly watching and learning right now for the most part?

  3. Just an update for yas

The Wheat Montana company has now expanded their little deal into roughly 10 more states across the nation in the Walmart stores, I'm not sure how many states this makes now....but it's a pretty cool little expansion here for those who didn't have access to this flour until now.

On a secondary note....the wife and I are now trying out some flours from our local health food store.....and a couple of these flours are 13 and 15g of protein according to the label there. So who knows, these suckers might break the darn machine being this much higher than what we've found to date lol.

Happy bread making folks...this is turning out to be a life long adventure in this regard...and a whole lot of fun to boot as well

  4. Seems like a couple of options here to get a fella his dose of Hockey Night in Canada and some sorely missed playoff action from this past winter....I should have queried earlier :bonk:

  5. It's really annoying - I can't even listen to it on BBC radio. Looks like I am going to have to wait until 7.30 when NBC are showing it.

That's not the news I was crossing my fingers on lol......anyhow, thanks for the info on it.

I'm sure NBC/CBS/ABC etc will have coverage during the day when all of the events are running....but my question concerning the missing Opening Ceremonies has me wondering what the ______ (insert expletive there) is going on :P

  6. Good day fellow Canucks;

So here we are with the Opening Ceremonies already underway (could be over by now for all I know lol). Not a single channel here is covering it on tv.....and dood.....we have a TON of channels (ESPN etc etc).

As a result this sports junkie is now screwed (perhaps).

I know ESPN2 has been carrying online streams of CFL games from time to time, perhaps this might be the only way to go for some decent coverage (thank goodness for HDMI cables). The television feed is replaying the GB soccer game for like the 30th time since it was played last night....I wouldn't exactly call this "decent" coverage while the Opening Ceremonies are on? (maybe it's just me lol)

Hopefully a few of us here have already been through the ringer on an issue like this and have suggestions for online viewing and / or a tv channel that will pick things up in real time?

It won't let me hook online into TSN or the CBC right now either. Perhaps a 5 second blurb on the news is all we gonna see on it.

Please save my American wife from having a crazy dood running around making funny faces wondering what the heck is wrong around here :P

  7. I will have to look and see if our Walmart has Prairie Gold flour. Are you using the Bread Flour with a protein content of 6g, and do you use it for all your baking? At the moment I have been using Gold medal bread flour for all my baking. I pretty much use it like all purpose flour it is way better then the all purpose flour they have here. It does the job but I still find a bit of a difference the back home, at least I can bake though all my goodies that I love because I would go nuts with the junk they sell in stores here.

Yeah the Wheat Montana company has a few different flours in their lineup, and the one we have found favor with thus far is the "Prairie Gold" one. It is a 100% whole wheat flour, and they also have a white unbleached if I'm not mistaken, though we haven't tried it.

So far it's only been for bread, I shudder to think that we might need something else for pies, cinnamon buns etc lol.

  8. Not even King Arthur's flour made my bread as good as it is back home. :(

Yes I agree as well. Now granted, the King Arthur is a 4g of protein and is definitely superior to the basic junk off the shelf (90 percent of that ####### is 3g and some are even 2). But we found that in the breadmaker, it wound up way too crumbly even on the lightest crust setting, and couldn't hold anything inside a couple of slices for a sandwich. If one were to use it only for toast or croutons, however....it seemed to be adequate (so to speak).

(Then again I am at elevation here as well......almost 6 thousand feet...so please take my words with a grain of salt).

It also makes a massive difference which setting one uses on the machine too. The basic/Quickbake/Expressbake settings make a different loaf than if it's set on French/Sourdough/European/Whole Wheat etc. They all worked differently straight across the board with each flour, and some of them had their pros and cons depending on the settings.

Yes I have gone psycho with this and have an actual journal marking down all the flours we have tried on each setting in the machine lol. Once one gets into the higher quality flours though (5g and higher), I think it's just a matter of preference from there on what type of loaf one is looking for. And it's certainly comforting to know that we have at least one thing here that doesn't have that flippin' corn syrup in it :)

After a couple other tries, our preference here is still the Prairie Gold flour out of Montana (6g protein and no GMO's).

    To be continued.....

  9. Yes it looks like the protein content is the way to go regarding this situation. Much kudos to those who recognized this as we try to find our way through the lost world of corn syrup bread lol.

Most of the "flours" on the shelf that we found were 3g of protein, so we experimented with some other ones available and have found a remarkeable difference. The 4's are wayyyy better, the 5's hold together better yet, etc.

Thus far after experimenting with about 10 different ones, our preference is leaning towards the "Prairie Gold" flour out of Montana (was sitting on the shelf in Wal-Mart......so with any luck it is readily available to all.....a seeming trouble for most of us finding a consistent source across the nation).

It contains 6g of protein, twice the amount of the so called all-purpose stuff. Also, no GMO's etc (which made me happy).

We do ours in a bread maker, because hey we are lazy Westerners :) . But for the Europeans used to the whole wheat stuff from back home, this could be a better way to go for you.

Still working on it of course, but this seems to be the best "commercially" found flour we have so far for a better bread.

    To be continued......

  10. I second this motion on contacting David Greene at the Commissionaires.

It took me 6 weeks to get the full meal deal, the certified fingerprint check, and that included it being missing for 10 business days or so in the mail when the RCMP sent it to the wrong building (leave it to the coppers to make things a hassle eh :P ).

The service was fantastic, and no folks, I do not work for them trying to garner up business lol.

Total bucks..... in my case it came to around 350 including all the courier fees and such (I overnighted the prints and stuff to them, they overnight the forms and results back to you, etc).

Definitely worth my while, hopefully it works out for someone else here as well.

  11. Hawks?

    Nah......

lol......in any event the Torres hit was trash, and he's famous for his garbage too.

but with a crappy precedent like Weber's DDT hit on the glass for 2500 bucks this gets what.....1 game? maybe 2 tops for an obvious targetted head shot?

in other words.....Shanahan is a joke and now the repeat offenders are exploiting this junk. thats the way it works. look at the suspendible ####### since game 1 with Weber and the free walk....it is growing exponentially now and more will be hurt because of the ruling.

van....lol.....im shocked that joke of a team even makes the playoffs let alone find a way to choke when there (gee whiz 2 Swedes on the top line does not equal 1 Canadian....and Canadians win for crying out loud lol)

TO......lets not even go there they wont even be a 500 team before you or i die :)

    Sens?

    Nah......lol

it must be playoff time....the darn Canadians are yappin more now then they have in all the past 6 months combined :P

Good luck to all your teams.

  12. I'm sure you can pick it up sooner. Now of course each state might vary a bit, and that's cool.

Here in NV the back of the marriage "registration" filled out by the pastor stated 2-3 weeks by mail or 7-10 days when picking it up in person.

We got ours in 48 hours at the county clerks office. 15 bucks for the first copy and 5 for each additional if I remember correctly.

Good thing we got a half dozen copies of them. EVERYONE wants to get their hands on a copy when it comes to name changes and all that jazz. DMV, passport, health and life insurance buggas, the bank, SSN, you name it. Hell even the bloody cable company wanted a copy to change her name over.

We are glad we grabbed a bunch of them when we did.....as it made for a heck of a smooth transition in this regard. Then again, she's the American so this might not apply for most cases concerning "incoming" Canadians as in my case......just a side note for anyone coming across this thread in the future for a similar situation I guess. My advice would be to contact the county clerk and pick it up. And when there....grab a bunch of them lol.

  13. No Canada does not stamp passports on entry or exit of the USA nor does it give I-94 to Canadian visitors.

But the US (as it's their border) does sometimes stamp passports on entry to the USA for Canadians, as they did mine and labelled it as a B2 on one of my visits to the country.

(Sorry for the symantics part on Canada stamping it going both ways....I don't mean to be silly on this small issue. Just wanted to clarify that Canada doesn't stamp on the way out but the US can and has stamped on the way in. I'm not trying to be a goofball on the issue...so please forgive me if it appears this way lol.)

I agree on the I-94 part, Canadians do not require this visa for entry purposes as all other countries would and do require a visa for "entry" all on its own. (K1's, students etc notwithstanding)

I apologize for my reply and the sillyness of my explanations if they don't make sense to anyone else out there lol...I have a couple beers in me and just wanted the rest of the good folks out there to know that the US can and has stamped Canadian passports on the way in there....and from my experience they labelled it as a B2.

  14. This is a smokin' hot and awesome thread. Many thanks to those who have gone through the paces and solved many nuances of the process. Just a couple of quick questions for those who have been there before, as I see this wasn't asked or referred to in these 28 pages. I apologize if it has been covered elsewhere and I haven't found it yet.

When making these several electronic payments, which method has been found to receive the "quickest" (so to speak) response rates to change the status to "paid" so the next packets can get sent out?

What I mean is, do they only accept payments from an accredited (perhaps US only?) bank account, or do they accept a credit card payment when in there? Or how about something from a "different source" (PayPal, Neteller, e-cheques, pay as you go VISA or "debit cards", etc). I think I read somewhere about a payment being personally made at a Scotiabank in Canada being made when going the regular route, but obviously if this is all being done online then that wouldn't apply for electronic processing.

Just curious about this portion of the thing as I haven't seen reference to it (yet), and once again I am sorry if it has already been covered.

Thanks for your time in advance.

  15. Hello everyone. Just a quick note to say hi to all the folks here.

Looks like some great information available here too. But just a quick question for those experienced folks out there.

My lovely soon to be wife (she's the American) has been having some difficulties with the physical "separation" during various stages of this journey. I was hoping if there were a few American women out there, maybe even in the western part of the country, that I could hook her up with for some moral support. And if close enough, have a coffee or two with etc etc. By all means, feel free to PM me if you like.

Thanks in advance, with any luck our own personal VISA journey will not take too long. And for those of you already hung up in the process, best of luck to you as well.
