  1. My wife had her Visa interview last week, Tue 9 Oct. She was told to come back on Thurs, 11 Oct to pick up her visa and she she arrived at the Embassy, she was not on the list. She tried to call the consulate to no avail. I tried to call on Friday from the states but the immigration section only takes calls on Monday and Wed. I sent an email and there was no response. Now she is very upset and I already made airline reservations for Wed, 17 Oct. Looks like she may not make it on that flight. Any suggestions???

  2. OCTOBER Appointments are here. The long wait is over.

Case complete at NVC 7 Aug

    Interview date 9 Oct.

You all wouldn't believe the the argument I got into with the girl at NVC today. I finally had to get transferred to her supervisor, who was very nice and helpful. But, she still said that I had to wait. She said that they would be scheduling until the 18th this month and to call back next Tue.

Now get this, she (the supervisor) called me back this afternoon and said she had some good news for me. My wife was scheduled for 9 Oct and I would be getting a packet in an email next week.

MY QUESTION: I know there is a checklist somewhere on this site that tells me what to send my wife so she can bring to the interview. Anyone know where that list is?

Good luck all. looks like they are finally scheduling interviews for those that have been waiting sooo long.

  3. Our case was complete Aug 7 and I have been calling twice a week. Also calling State Dept. No help from anyone. In fact, I keep getting conflicting stories. One person will tell me that Sept is full and that they are not processing oct yet. another will tell me that info is incorrect and that they schedule constantly all month long, so there is still a chance that my wife can get in in Sept (yea right!). No one can tell me how many people are waiting in line in front of her or the capacity at the embassy or anything that matters... someone should know this.

I finally got fed up and called both of my Senators and my Congressman today. They are going to contact the NVC and the embassy on my behalf. Don't know if this will work but I figure it couldn't hurt. We'll see what happens.

  4. Anyone that is a "certified" translator can translate the documents. We had ours translated across from the marriage office in Seoul and both the USCIS and the NVC took them with no problems. If I were you, I would fire that lawyer and see if you could get a refund. You don't need one. You can get all this done yourself without the assistance of a lawyer. In fact, my wife was in Korea when we got married and she went back to Uzbekistan. So, when she did all of her paperwork, she had original papers in Korean, translated into english and again translated into Russian so that she could get the ministry of foreign affairs to sign off on them. We did all paperwork ourselves and did not use a lawyer. In my opinion, this just adds to the cost and the time it takes to get the visa paperwork done. The longer the lawyer can keep you on the hook, the more he gets paid.

Would love your advice/input regarding translating documents for the NVC!

My husband's birth certificate, family history, our marriage license, etc. is in the Korean language. Our lawyer advised us that we should have all documents translated into English by a lawyer for it to be acceptable to the NVC. The US Embassy in Korea advised my husband that ANYONE could translate it, as long as it was notarized properly.

My husband decided to follow the US embassy's advise: he translated the documents and a lawyer certified the translation. We sent the documents to our lawyer to submit to the NVC. He responded that this 'translations' was not acceptable to the NVC, mailed my husband's family history to a lawyer in New York for 'proper translation' and now we're waiting for a $100+ bill for this 2nd translation.

I've spoken to the US embassy in Korea, and they've assured me that the way my husband translated it is perfectly fine. But what about the NVC?! In your experience, how picky is the NVC with translations? Can anyone translate with proper notarial services or MUST it be a lawyer translating it?

    Thanks for your help!

  5. My wife sent her Visa application in last Monday,30 July 2012 (from Uzbekistan) and the NVC received it on Thursday, 2 Aug. I just called them (9 Aug) to ensure that they received it because DHL delivered to Boston not NH. The said that they did receive it, they processed it and case was completed on 7 Aug. Pretty impressive considering that 4&5 Aug was the weekend. That's 4 days processing from the date they received it. They told me that they were awaiting an interview date from the Embassy and the packet will be sent out along with our final package and interview letter. Getting close now. With any luck, she should be here by end of Sept.

  6. So, I received my wife's I-130 approval on June 11th after waiting since Feb. I found out that it had been sent to the "black Hole' of NVC and waited. I finally called today and after 32 minutes of waiting a person answered. I told her that I wanted to check on my wife's status and she said, "oh, we just completed entering that info on the June 5th." I asked her what the next step was and she said that I would be receiving a package for assignment of agent (that my wife had to complete) in a couple of weeks. I called my wife and told her that we finally got some movement and she was excited, of course. So, as I was leaving my office, I received an email from NVC with her DS-3023-- yes, today. I called my wife (it was 2:00 am there) and told her to get her butt down to the internet room to print out the paperwork, sign, and send to NVC and me. I just paid the $88.00 for the AOS fee on the internet.

Question: can she email the DS-3023 in or does it have to be hard copy? Can I get a scanned copy from her (with signature) and mail it in from here in the US? Can I start to fill out her Form 230 now, or will we get one with a barcode and should I wait for it?

    Thanks,

    Mark
