  1. Hi,

We had a very similar situation and got all varied messages from DOS. We were initially told that we were in AP and had to wait for 4 to 8 weeks. Later we were told that the visa was issued. However we never got any communication from DHL, worried we called DOS again and they stated that our case now is in AP and it will take weeks before we get an update.

When we were completely shattered we got the email from DHL. Hang in there and hope and wish you receive the good news soon

One more thing have the USC send an email to Montreal - not sure if it helped us but we got the DHL and a response from Montreal ( perhaps coincidence :innocent: )

  3. I got my DHL email notifying me they had picked up my passport 15 days after my interview. That was about 8 business day because of the July 1st and 4th holidy. I would say it is averaging about two weeks now. I got the dhl email yesterday at 7pm and this morning my passport was ready for pickup so living two hours away from Montreal was a help.

I noticed if you have docs in your file that have to be verified through some other country, like your country of birth other than Canada it takes a little longer but just my random observation. Saylin gave you the number so i guess all your questions are answered.

 Best of luck to you.

      We picked up the passport today. Calling DOS to ask for the status was a nightmare, we got all possible status (AP, Pending, Visa Printed, AP). Our 2 cents .. not much is gained calling DOS ( it depends on the person providing status)

Also, sending email to Montreal helps when the US Citizen sends the note ( does it ?? not sure, but at least I got the response whereas my wife's email was never replied).

Very hard to say the logic used to print but all we now know is we have the Visa in hand and surprisingly all the pain seems to have been dissipated.

Now we are working on the move .. POE on this Friday YVR airport and God O' God what a journey...

Good Luck to VJ Members and thanks for all your help and support.

  4. Dear Fellow VJ Members seeking your expertise;

My wife had her CR1 visa interview at Montreal 27-JUNE-2011 and the CO approved our case, gave the welcome letter, retained the passport and stated that we will get the passport via DHL in a weeks time

We have been following up with DOS to get an update since we have neither received the DHL email nor got any communication from Montreal.

On last Friday when we called DOS they stated that our case is in AP and we will have to wait for 4 to 8 weeks

Yesterday when we called DOS again, two times, we were informed that our case is moving along well and was approved on Friday itself. Also the visa has been printed and we should hear from DHL shortly. We were quite happy and were eagerly waiting to get the DHL email but in vain.

Today we called DOS again (2 times) and were informed that our case is pending and is in AP, completely shattering us - we are quite clueless on who is telling the truth or what is the truth? Clueless on how to react in this situation.

Seeking your expertise in case you have experience.

Also, assuming that once Montreal completes the case, do we get an email from them? and another from DHL stating they have picked up the passport?

  5. Sorry to hear about your case being in AP. Some times they say that but it really takes a shorter time to go through. Just keep the faith, and call as often as you can though it really doesn't make a difference as the process is being done by the montreal embassy.

We called DOS today and the guy said he did not have access to tell us where our visa processis right now. We'll just trying later to speak to someone else who can give us a real answer.

Well we called DOS again and this time we were informed that our case is pending and they have no clue on how much more time it will take - I guess the response we get from DOS varies on the person we talk to and it is very important for us to stay calm and get a control on ourself ( easier said then what I can actually practice).. Is pending status same as AP?

@ceciliaottawa : We wish that you get your visa very soon and pray that this wait time gets over soon..not sure how else I can add value -- did you tell IV Processing Unit in Montreal on the urgency since you are running out of time and hopefully this may help. I remember seeing some post on how someone faxed a note to Montreal ..

  6. I am also a canadian permanent resident and know that could be a factor as they have to verify all the docs you submitted and if your docs are from a different country it should probably take a little longer but i really cant tell. From other peoples' posts it depends on if the country you come from is high fraud or not.

Thanks Karen!, we just called DOS and were given to understand that they have all the necessary information and our case is in AP. The wait time according to the operator was 4 to 8 weeks . This is a bummer and quite upset now :crying:.BTW,Did you call DOS?

Not sure if India is considered to be in a high fraud country -God this testing period is getting too much to endure!

  7. I remember you guys. I was C5 but i think they interviewed me right after you. Is the petitioner a Canadian citizen cuz i am not and i think it takes longer for them to do the required checks before issuing the visa.

Yes, i thuught about booking a flight right after the interview but thought better of it as i know this embassy might be great and fast when it comes to interviews, but they are notoriously slow for sending out visas.

I'm the petitioner and an US citizen however my wife who is the beneficiary is NOT a Canadian Citizen she is a Canadian permanent resident. Does this factor for the time to get the visa?? Getting quite concerned and wish we all get the DHL email soon.

Do you have any estimates on how long this wait can be?

  8. laughing.giflaughing.gif Thankfully, it's almost all over and you'll stop imagining things (hopefully :P)

True Saylin, this journey of waiting for the passport is nerve wracking and we were unable to sleep through the nights and cannot stop from imagining all crazy things !!

@ KarenB - We were C1 on the day of interview and are still waiting for the DHL email eagerly! Wishing you the very best and hope we get the DHL email soon

@ Shawna - Thanks for your inputs yesterday, we called DOS today and they still have no updates for us - they told us to keep checking next week .. BTW, we had scheduled our travel to 13th July and are getting very nervous. Meanwhile wishing you the very best for your POE

  9. Thanks all for taking the time to read and respond, we got the confirmation today via email that NVC has completed the review of the case. For some reason sign in did not fail something we are not going to worry about.

Now we will wait for the interview and hope things progress.. Good luck to you all on your visa journey!

    Best,

    Kribun

  10. Dear Fellow Members seeking your input:

Our NVC Process Started in Feb-2011 and on April 01, 2011 we received a RFI (the birth certificate was not in a format that they could accept) and we hence we provided the acceptable format on April 01, 2011 itself.

As of date we get the same standard response, to wait 20 business days, which we formally completed today. We have opted-in for electronic processing and got the email confirmation that they received the email. Today we were given to understand that NVC is doing a final review?? Not sure what that means?

Is there any fellow member who is undergoing this situation, if so, what are our next steps??

Thanks for taking time to read our concern and appreciate any positive feedback

    Best,

    KRIBUN

  11. Dear Visa Journey Members;

Need suggestion/ guidelines for our situation:

We have started the CR1-Spouse visa for my wife residing in Vancouver Canada. Our I-130 was recently approved and we understand that the documents are in the process of getting transferred to NVC.

We have been reading about the option available to OPT in for the electronic NVC processing, which we understand reduces the timelines... However we are given to understand that Montreal will be the consulate used for this option instead of Vancouver? Is this true?, if so,

    • What will be the changes to the timelines ? will it mean faster NVC processing but extended wait time for the interview schedule?
    • Will it involve travel for Montreal for the interview?
    • What will be the approximate timelines choosing the normal NVC process and Vancouver interview ?

    Thanks for your response
