The visa grants him entry, the I-20 makes his status legal as an F1.

If his visa is not renewed he cannot reenter the US, even if he has the I-20.

Why are you talking about continuous stay?

Sorry if my post wasn't clear.

There are three questions we are trying to seek advice on here:

    1) What is the chance of being denied re-entry if he visits home country with his valid visa?

    2) If he chooses not to visit home country due to risk of being denied re-entry, can he submit (by courier) application to renew visa to embassy in home country? Is this allowed?

    3) If he does 2) and visa renewal is denied, can he continue to stay in the US legally? (he has a valid I-20, and is actively pursuing his studies)

We are trying to figure action his best options regarding 1)travel, 2)visa renewal.

    Thanks!

  2. Appreciate the responses.

Visa expires June 2024, I20 expires June 2027.  He didn't switch schools. He just changed course of study.

He hasn't applied for Visa renewal because applications can only be sent to US embassy outside the US. Can he send his visa renewal application to the US Embassy in Lagos by courier without needing to travel? If he does this, and the Visa is not renewed, how will this impact his continued stay in the US (with a valid I20)?

  3. My brother's F1 visa is set to expire in June. He misses his family and want to visit Lagos, and return in May (1 month before visa expiry). He has a valid I20, but we are worried his Visa might not be renewed because he switched his Course of Study from Masters(Law) to BSc (Nursing). He just wants a 3weeks visit to see his family whom he misses so much. The school says it is Ok for him to travel and return provided the visa is still valid. Pls can you advise if there is any risk he might be denied re-entry to the US.

    Thank you!

  4. I was denied my K1 for same reason. When i went for the CR1 interview(we got married at Ikoyi registry later), the K1 issue was never mentioned. It was as if that was my first visit to the embassy. But you know, those guys are smart...they may be asking the same questions that were asked at the K1 interview to see if there will be any contradiction. so you need to remember this and be as consistent as possible. but be rest assured that your ki application will not afffect your Cr1. All the best.

  5. Luckily, i picked up my visa this morning right on schedule! Everyone that came around while i sat there was able to pick their visas. So, i want to believe that they've resolved their issues......but there was this lady(light in compleexion) who came but was only able to pick one of her visas(obviously she came for visas for family).....i kept wondering if that was you, ADMIRE......

  6. Hi friends,

Please where can i find a guide on food items allowed/prohibited from entering the USA?? I am considering taking some locust beans(irun), but not sure if it is allowed or not. I can't imagine cooking without this native seasoning!

Already, i am told that the following items are not allowed:

    1)Maggi

    2)'Bush Meat'

    Thanks.......

  7. Hello all,

I am trying to go pick up my transcipt from school to enable me continue studies in the US. I have HND(Elect/Elect) and i really want to know if i can do a Masters in the US with this. My husband said i can do my masters......but we still not sure of any evaluating body in Texas area that can help to evaluate my transcript, so that i know where i fit it.

I will appreciate your advise on this..........

    thanks.

  8. Just returned from my Interview. I WAS APPROVED!!!!!

The CO was asking me questions of how i met my husband, and was trying to twist my responses..........but i found a way to mention to him that we have a daughter. Then he asked, why is she not here? i brought out her CRBA cert + US passport + birth certificate and told him she was already a US citizen, from then on, he calmed downed and every other question was pretty much regular...like phone records, e-mails, and pictures.. i will post the full review in my timeline shorthly. I am glad i did not take our daughter with me and the wait was really long and stressful.

Thanks to everyone for their help!

  9. Taking your child to the interview is not as important as having a DNA test for the child and the father. What really matters is to have a paternity test so they can allow you travel with the child. If you have not done this already, they will most likely ask you to go do it, which would cause another couple of months delay. You should send them an email asking them directly and do as you are told. They usually respond to emails within 2-3 business days.

    Hi Tero,

I and my husband(the CR-1 petitioner) were at our daughters CRBA interview and her paternity has already been determined with evidence that she is a product of our relationship, hence she was issued a US passport, hence there is no DNA issue. Now my husband has petitioned for me(spouse visa) and my interview is a few hours away. i only wanted to know if taking our daughter will be a boost to my own interview.

  10. Okay, my CR-1 interview is a few hours away.....and although my daughter is not part of my application(because she already has her US passport), i want to know if taking her with me to the interview will be of any advantage. For one, she is going to be an extra burden for me(since my baby sitter will not be allowed into the consulate), and i will prefer to leave her at home if her presence will not change anything. I will appreciate your advise. Thanks...

  11. Please do not go for your medicals yet until you receive the interview appointment from the embassy. The medical is usually completed within 5 - 7 business days. Send an e-mail to the embassy asking for interview date and you should get a response(Packet 3 & 4 is usually attached in the response e-mail from the embassy, notifying your interview date.) . In the meantime, you need to start gathering all the necessary documents and evidence of relationship in preparation for the interview. Good luck
