  1. I just got mine returned from IRS. When I called they said the needed Notarized copy of passport that was Apostilled. I just send a notarized copy.

I think your country is part of the Hague Convention. If this is the case then a copy of the passport that is notarized and apostilled is good..

    Thanks a lot.

Does anyone know good sources who can help in India getting Apostille copies done for a passport?

Do we need just the front page?

    Jay

  2. Hi Everyone,

Has anyone done an apostille for a passport copy in India?

I found the following online: Excellent Apostille Services Pvt Ltd.

I need this, as I had filed for a joint return, but IRS asked for a apostille of passport copy for my wife (in India).

The above company has various branches across India and they charge Rs. 5000 at least per page.

Not sure, if I can trust and send passport copy for Apostille?

Any inputs please (any other alternatives as well)?

    Thanks a lot,

    Jay

  3. Hi folks,

While sending out the documents along with DS-230, is it recommended to send US notazied Marriage certificate or there's no harm in sending "original Marriage Certificate to the NVC"?

Also, for the Indian applicants, do you know if there's any harm if in the Birth certificate, my spouse has "ben" suffix at the end of her name?

    Thank you so much,

    Jay

  4. I believe so I hate to say I am not sure what kind of interview. We filed an I -130 and it was approved June 1, 2010. I was told at the interview the I 130 that depending on their decision if it was approved it would be sent to the visa center. Which it was and we compiled all necessary documents. They asked how we met and my husband answered through yahoo messenger chat room... they kept asking what website and he replied chat room through yahoo. Which it was I hate to say it isn't very detailed I don't even remember what chat room it was. Then they asked if he had ever been to the states.. he said yes they said when did he leave he answered. Then they asked again what website he met me he answered his first answer and they denied. None of the evidence that was handed in they said was in the file. He was deported because his case was dismissed for aslyum he was unaware of this. We met in the spring of 2006 was engaged in July had wedding plans for December in U.S. and with his family for the summer of 2007. We continued with our wedding plans when he was deported. When I had my I 130 interview I handed in phone records, phone cards, emails, letters, cards, affadavits of our relationship, health insurance together. I love my husband and we met I am sure in their eyes not at a good time. But why wasn't this information forwarded to the embassy and if it wasn't where is it. They said none of this was there. The file was so big they rubber banded together at my interview and I asked if I should go and they said yes it would help alot. Then they changed the law in Nov. 2010 in March 2011 they wouldn't let me in the interview. Nor did they ask my husband to give any evidence of our marriage. We do have an age difference of 15 years. I am just lost. Do we get something from immigration with their decision? All we have is a red piece of paper from the embassy with the denial based on marriage no evidence and for immigration purposes only. I love my husband we talk every day and I have documentation that was sent to them... any advice would help.

Have you tried contacting immigration lawyers also? Not sure, where you live, but there are often places where you may be able to get Free legal advise also (20 minutes). for e.g Bay Area, CA has such programs (google please). Good Luck. We hope things work out smoothly for you.

  5. Did you file Joint tax return? If you did, there should not be a problem. There is an option while filing W-9 that your employer can deduct tax for the single even though you are married.

Thanks a lot, guys. I did follow up and checked with the HR today (there's an option).

IT seems if I submit employment letter having salary info, it should be sufficient also, right?

    Thanks,

    Jay

  6. Hi Guys,

It seems if I am only sponsoring my wife, based upon W2 income only, I could fill in I-864EZ.

    Is that recommended?

Also, I realized my paystubs still has not reflected my "marital status" and it shows single only (would it be a problem?

Should I update the status, wait till the new paystub and then send?

    Thanks a lot,

    Jay

  7. im asking my wife to get her PCC done but when she went there they asked her for a "copy of letter(from USA) for which she required PCC"

so is it that she will only be able to get her PCC done when NVC emails/mails her...

    any ideas...

did u had to go through the same...

How were you able to do it than?

My wife is also trying to get the Police Certificate letter. But, we don't have NVC email yet (we have invoice for affidavit of support, immigration bill etc).

    Thanks,

    Jay

  8. Hi Everyone,

I am currently going through the NVC procedure for my wife (in India).

I just paid her affidavit of support fees.

Had a question for police certificate in Gujarat. Can we start getting that early, mean-while we wait for her Immigration and DS-230 forms to be sent to NVC (have not got a confirmation to send those yet).

What we have found is the following, is that sufficient?

Get a police certificate from local police station, take it to the Regional passport office and get a Police clearance certificate.

    Thanks,

    Jay

  9. Hi Everyone,

I was going over the Tax related Topics and IRS site.

To confirm, it's ok to do "Married Filing jointly" if my spouse is in India and I am a USC?

I am applying for her ITIN as well and W7. We have our USCIS petition approved, but have not heard anything from NVC yet. Still, waiting.

Mean-while, there's no harm in doing "married filing jointly, right? Even, if she never has come to the US.

My only concern was NVC would not mind the above approach, right? In future when they get all my documents for support?

    Thanks,

    Jay

  10. Thanks a lot, everyone for the useful tips :)

The journey seems to be long, can't wait to see the end...

agree w/ the above. when I tried the expedite at 3 months through my senator and congressman, I basically got the response that my application was within normal processing times and so no expedites could be done.

I hate to say this, but TOTAL time from initial application of I-130 to final interview is in the 8 to 8.5 month range (see my timeline). 5 months for USCIS, ~1 month for NVC (assuming all of your documents are in order), ~ 1.5-2 month of waiting time from interview granting date to the actual interview date. My initial I-130 packet was sent in Oct 6 2009 and my wife's interview was on June 10th 2010 - 8 months and change. I dont think much has changed in those time frames.

I wish you the best of luck - the nightmare DOES end. Once you get the NOA2, things move much quicker in the NVC stage. more importantly, there's always some administrative activity, so the passing of time goes much faster.

  11. Hi,

Need some guidance for form G325A (along with I-130).

I am the petitioner and I am filling it out for my wife.

Her mom had died, when she was quite young and she does not remember her birth-date.

Would that be ok to leave it blank in the G325A when they ask for mom's birth-date? Should we specify the reason for keeping it empty in the cover letter?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  12. Hi,

For I-130, is it ok, if after marriage, husband and wife have lived together for only 10 days (returned to US) after that.

    In the following question (Q 21, I-130):

If filing for your husband/wife, give last address at which you lived together. (Include street, city, province, if any, and country)?

Is it ok, along with the address, if I just mention from and to dates as : 09/2010 to 09/2010?

    Thanks.
