  1. I had the same thing happen to me, they sent it to Montreal and it should have been Vancouver. I sent an email to Montreal requesting that it be sent to Vancouver and I also sent an email to Vancouver to let them know that I had requested to have my file sent to them since it was sent to Montreal but should have been Vancouver. It didn't seem to be a problem, it was transferred and everything went smoothly after that.

  2. Hello Everyone,

I live in Saskatchewan and was really hoping NVC would send my K1 application to Vancouver. It left NVC Aug 3/11, but unfortunately it was sent to Montreal. Vancouver is much closer to me and would be much easier to do everything there.

I spoke with NVC and they suggested I contact both consulates to request a transfer. I have perused the VJ forums about this topic and I have seen some success with westerners transferring to Vancouver. I sent an email to both Montreal and Vancouver requesting a transfer. I also sent a separate email to Vancouver respectfully requesting that they accept my transfer given that I live in the west. I hope to hear a response soon - I'm not even sure if Montreal has received my application yet.

If anyone has any other advice for me, I would sure appreciate it!

    Thanks very much,

I had my file transferred from Montreal to Vancouver. I did the same, sent emails to both consulates, I didn't hear from Montreal but I did hear from Vancouver telling that was the correct thing to do and that my packet 3 would be sent out as soon as they got everything. The people there were very helpful, even after the interview. I had a problem with the packet they send that needs to be taken and given the POE, it was damaged. I sent an email to them asking what I do and I got a phone call right away and we figured out what to do. I was very impressed.

I had my medical and interview the same day. I was out of the clinic by 8:30. I stayed at the Days Inn which is walking distance to both places, they also have a cab company that was there in a couple minutes to take me to the clinic. I didn't want to walk that early in the morning but walked back after it was over. The consulate is less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

I'm also from Saskatoon and am planning my first visit back for September! I can't wait.

  3. Oh God you guys

I just pulled the DO NOT OPEN envelope out of the plastic bag that it came in and realized that there is a hole on its side. On the side of the envelope itself, I mean, not on the side of the bag. It's not a very big hole, I think it's about an inch wide, but I am TOTALLY FREAKING OUT about it. It must have happened on the way here, because I put it in a drawer to keep it safe, still in the plastic bag, and I haven't touched it at all since then. Am I screwed? Oh God what do I do? Please help, I'm freaking out here! :crying:

The same thing happened to me, mine was sent to me Express Post and it got ripped, very badly, in transport. The express post envelope was destroyed and so was the "do not open" envelope. I emailed the consulate right away and someone called me to ask about it. I had to courier it back to them along with another return post envelope. They wanted it back to make sure everything was still there and nothing had fallen out. I know they wouldn't have taken mine at the border, it was torn open, I could have looked at everything inside. I would email right away if you can and return it to them to put in a new envelope.

  4. Lastly, Shouldnt we as America just annex Canadato be part of the US. It should be very easy since there is not real army. I know we will have to do something with the French speakers, maybe resettle them in New Orleans.

I'm offended by this statement as a Canadian! You should do some research about Canada before making ignorant comments. The US can't just take over a country because they want to.

  5. My fiance had her medical today and apparently all of the other people there were discussing that their interviews were all scheduled for Montreal, despite them being local to Vancouver. If this is true, this isn't the end of the world but it does kind of throw a wrench in travel plans we have been making for Vancouver. Has anyone else heard anything about this? I find it kind of hard to believe but she said three different people there said the same thing.

I had my file transferred to Vancouver from Montreal. If hers gets sent to Montreal she just needs to email both with case number, name, etc and ask Montreal to forward to Vancouver and let Vancouver know you've emailed Montreal about forwarding to them. It took a little extra time to get it sent but was much quicker to get an interview date at Vancouver.

  6. I'm not sure if I'm just worrying for no reason but I haven't heard a thing about my AOS since I received the letter telling me it was forwarded to CSC on June 13th. I sent AOS/AP/EAD on May 14th, received NOA1 May 20th, was forwarded June 13th and had biometrics on June 17th. Only my AOS receipt number shows up on the website, but it still just has the message about on the 13th it was forwarded to CSC. Nothing since then, should I be calling or doing something. I'm watching timelines and some people hear about their AP and EAD days after their biometrics appt. I'm not sure if I should just continue to wait "patiently" or not.

I'm hoping to be able to go home for a visit in July but not sure if that's going to happen and I would love to be able to start looking for a job, there's only so much cleaning a person can do. :) I'm not cut out to be a stay at home anything I've discovered. I haven't really been homesick until the last couple weeks. I feel like I just need to see my family and friends soon! No one will be coming to visit again until September long weekend and that seems so far away.

  7. Hello!

    I have a few questions :)

    1) My fiance would like to drive in from Canada (to bring his car/stuff). Has anyone had experience with POE at the border via car? How long did it take? I'm sure it will depend on the entry point - FWIW, he'd enter Maine.

    2) I'd like to fly up to Canada for his "going away" party, then drive home with him. Is there going to be an issue if I have a one-way airline ticket into Canada? I've heard horror stories of friends flying from the US to another country with a one-way ticket... Are we better off to book two one-way tickets from my hometown to his, then his hometown to somewhere in the US?

    Thanks in advance!

I drove down Feb 2011, went thru North Portal/Portal North Dakota. I had no problems, my sister was driving my car and I was driving the Uhaul. It took maybe 20-25 minutes to get it all done, he had to refer to a book and another guy for help plus it was busy that day otherwise it would've been quicker. They didn't even open the Uhaul, I had a spreadsheet with what I was bringing with, he looked it over and we were on our way.

  8. I think I read on here that I need to bring a pair of glasses with me to Dr Seiden's medical if I wear contacts, is that true? I don't have any, and really don't want to go to the expense of buying any if I can get away without it. I wear contact lenses night and day, for a month at a time, then put in a new pair, I think my glasses are about 12 years old and several prescriptions ago. Hoping to find someone on here that has gone through this themselves, rather than having to buy eyeglasses that I will likely never use, not to mention the fee for the visit for the prescription!

I had my medical done in Vancouver and they said the same thing so I brought mine but didn't need them because I had my contacts in. They give you an eye exam there which is just reading the eye chart, I had contacts in and no one ever asked about my glasses. I would think it would be the same there.

  9. thank you so much!

I`ll be taking my marriage certificate and passport, i dont know if my SSN card will help because its in my maiden name and didn`t change it yet(got it in 2007 when i was here on a different visa).

Thank you, your post helped me a lot!

I would take your SSN card, she said that she has to actually see the card I couldn't just tell her what it was. I don't think it will matter if its in your maiden name since you'll have your marriage certificate.

  10. I was just looking at your timeline. Your appeal only took like 11 days. I thought when someone said appeal that it took several months. If you do not mind me asking what did they deny you for and how did you appeal?

When we got the denial J called both his senator's and congressman's office and right away the congressman's office got involved and looked into why it was denied, I think that's what moved it along quickly. The letter we received said that the pictures we sent of us together was of an unknown persons, we had received an RFE before asking for more pictures. The denial letter had instructions on what to do, it gave a place to write what we needed to and we also added extra stuff like notarized letters from people who had spent time with us, more pictures, copies of receipts from when we were together (we had always driven so had no boarding passes, etc.), a copy of my passport picture showing that it was me, 2 more intent to marry letters. We sent in as much as we could get together in the time we had plus had the congressman's assistant helping us out. She was amazing and even after we were approved and it was sent to Canada she said if we needed help with anything to call, I was very impressed!

  11. Just wondering if anyone knows of an instance where an I-129F fiance visa petition has been denied by USCIS?

We're one of the unlucky ones waiting since December for an answer to our petition. Would be nice to hear something...

Our petition was denied, we were sent a letter and given a chance to appeal, which we did, it was approved and now we're married. Denials aren't the end, we're proof of that.

  12. I know that the medical cost $350, and there's a fee to get a police records check but is there a cost for the interview? I seem to recall reading somewhere that there was but can't seem to find that info.

If anyone can point me in the direction of a link to the fee charts for the whole process with regards to Vancouver I would appreicate it very much.

    Thanks in advance. :luv:

Here is the website for the consulate in Vancouver, I used this for any info I needed regarding paperwork to gather for my interview, hope it helps. When I had my interview in Dec 2010 it cost 350 for the visa which you pay that day.

  13. I'm in the process of doing my AOS too. This question about the medical stuff is driving me crazy, I can't figure it out. On the instructions for the I-485 it says "If you are a K-1 fiance or K-2 dependent who had a medical examination within the past year as required for the nonimmigrant fiance visa, you only need to submit a vaccination supplement, not the entire medical report. You may include the vaccination supplement with your form I-485." I take this to mean we don't need to submit the I-693 form just the form we received at our medical. I don't have any of the other medical info to take with me to a civil surgeon so I don't know how he could fill out any part other than the vaccinations. I'm going to submit it with just my vaccination stuff I received and hope for the best. I'm not sure what else to do.

  14. I am doing the same thing - just make sure that your car is completely paid off from the dealership. They wont give you a compliance letter if your car hasnt been paid off since they are the lean holders to your car. Im doing the same things, and i owe 4000$ on my car to the dealership. Had to take out a personal loan to pay off the dealer..such a pain in the ####! but yes, a compliance letter is all you need!

I don't owe anything on it, I paid it off last year. But I called the dealership and had trouble finding someone who knew anything about a compliance letter. Finally someone called me this morning and said I needed to bring my car in for them to look at then they could do up a compliance letter. Luckily it's already there so they are going to do it up today I hope, just waiting to hear back from them.

  15. If shes only visiting she wont need to fill out anything, they will just scan her passport.

You only need the compliance letter if you are keeping the car in the USA, if you aren't and you will send it back to Canada with your mom its fine, just tell them at the CBP that the car is not staying in the USA its returning with your mom.

    - If you want to import the car all you need is the compliance letter from the dealership, at CBP they fill out the paperwork and have you sign it, then give you a copy for the registration in your state.

She is only visiting, she'll be leaving after I get moved and unpacked. I am keeping the car in the US so I'll make sure to get the compliance letter from the dealership. Thank you!

  16. You need a compliance letter for your car, and you need to import the car at the POE.

My mom came with me to help me move my things in the UHaul - we had the car on a tow behind it to save mileage.(turned out to be a much better way to do it)

They made my mom go inside with me and just treated her like a visitor at the same time as processing my K-1 papers.

    ----

Originally we were going to drive a truck and my car - that way I would have had to pass through first in my car tell them the truck behind me was with me and is my mom moving my things with me. She would have had to have a copy of the visa with her and copy of my biopage. They would have us both pull over and go inside to do the papers.

What do you have to do to import the car at the POE? Do I get the compliance letter from the dealership I bought my car from? Is there anything else I'll need to import my car? I'm doing the same thing but my Mom will be driving my car behind the UHaul so I'll make sure to give her a copy of passport and visa. What papers will she have to fill out?
