My wife is traveling home from visiting her family in Russia and is wondering if she should get in the line for Citizens or the line for Visitors when she arrives back at JFK. She has her AOS. Just wondering because she only has a 2 hour layover.
-
The embassy in Moscow collected her sealed envelope, which had her medical examination records...I wonder if she will have to redo the entire examination?

Hi everybody,
Elena came over on a K-1 on September 3, we were married September 28. We are filling out the adjustment of status paperwork, but I am confused about the 1-693. When she had her medical examination in Russia last August she completed all of her vaccinations. She doesn't have a DS3025, she has a certificate from the International Organization for Migration that indicates that she has all necessary vaccinations for the U.S. She also has a "certificate of prophylactic vaccinations" from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation that lists her vaccination history translated into English. The doctor who conducted her medical examination in Russia told Elena that these documents would be enough for the adjustment of status. Can we just send copies of this stuff, or do we need to take the documents to a civil surgeon and have the civil surgeon review them for the vaccination supplement form? She doesn't need any vaccinations...seems like a waste of time and money to go to the civil surgeon. What do you folks think?

Hi everybody,
first, thanks so much for all the helpful info. Every step of the way you all have been incredibly helpful! So now here we are. Elena got approved for the K-1, and is flying into JFK tomorrow!!! What should we expect? Will there be a fee? I heard that she can apply for some sort of work permit or something right at JFK, but I haven't been able to find out any solid info about this. Anything else we should know before she crosses through customs tomorrow?
Thanks in advance!

A copy of my divorce decree is in my original submission. I was just checking out the interview requirements on the uscis website and it says she should bring a copy of any divorce records for either of us. It doesn't make sense that they would need two copies, and I'm sure I'm just being overly nervous here,but they should be all set with the copy in my packet, right? Elena brought every thing the Russian consul asked for so she should be good to go, right? I'm just getting nervous. This is so surreal, the interview is Friday!!!

I didn't make copies of the entire I-129F submission for the fiance visa, I just didn't have the time and it was a ton of work to put it all together. I figure that the consul over there in Moscow will have the original submission. It seemed a little overly ####### to copy the entire packet and mail it to my fiance. How necessary is this? Is it "just in case" something is missing? I don't see it as a requirement anywhere except on these forums...Thanks.

Hi everybody,
Elena's interview is next Friday in Moscow!!!!! So exciting. We are thinking about a Las Vegas wedding, but I wonder if anybody has experience with flying. Once she is into the U.S., can she legally fly in an airplane as long as we stay in the U.S.? Elena said she heard that Las Vegas weddings are not considered legal in Russia, but I don't think that is true or that it would even matter anyway. Anybody know anything about that? Thanks in advance.

Well she lives about a 24 hour train ride from Moscow...so she can't just stop by unless she does it when she goes for the interview. Ill try the fax idea... Hopefully we won't have to reschedule but that would be better than a rejection, thats for sure. We musnt be cockblocked by the Canadians! Beautiful country by the way.

So we have a problem! Just found out the Interview date is August 19. The problem is that Elena's passport is currently at the Canadian embassy in Moscow. She applied for a Canadian tourist visa so we could meet in Montreal to visit while we wait foe the fiancé visa to be completed. The Canadian visa application said that most applicants receive their visas within a month of applying, and we applied in May. At that point we hadn't received the noa2 yet, so we thought it would be fine. But, after waiting and trying to contact them they told Elena that delays are very common and that she should email the Canadian consul. She emailed them, and received an automated response that they will try to respond within 21 days! I can't believe it! So in the meantime they have her passport, the week we wanted to be in Canada has come and gone, and the interview date is approaching. Does anybody have any advice? It seems so unfair for them to say it will take a month and then inform you of very common several month delays after they receive her passport. when she calls they send her to voicemail... And they want 21 days to respond to emails. Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

Do yo think I should send the affidavit of support? I know it's not technically required by Moscow, but I was planning on doing it anyway until I read in the instructions that I should go to a notary...is this really necessary or will we be ok without it? It would be so much easier to just scan and email her my paystubs and job offer letter...

Good luck!

Hi everybody. Thanks so much for all your help. So now we are just waiting to find out what Elena's interview date will be. Should I mail her over paystubs, a letter from my employer, etc, or can I scan and email them? If I'm gonna mail them I should do it soon! Any advice on what to send to prove I can support her? I have enough income from my job to support her....
-
So what happens now? Is somebody going to send me instructions? What about Elena over there in Russia? She is going to get her police certificate soon, but hasn't received any official instructions either. I read in the guide that NVC is the next stage.
-
Elena just said she read on a Russian language forum that the police certificate can take 6 months! I hope thats not true. She's asking around a bit over there, but do you guys know anything about this?

So I just received the notice in the mail, they didn't text me like they did for the NOA1, but I'm still really excited! A few months ago I posted that I wrote on the original application to forward the application to the consul in St. Petersburg, not realizing that she would have to go to Moscow. A few people here assured me that they would forward the application to Moscow anyway. I'm so excited!

My fiance tried to visit me on a tourist visa in August, and they denied her. She didn't have a job, but was a full time student, but that wasn't enough proof that she would return. So I just got a visa and visited her instead. But now I have a question, she wrote on her tourist visa application that I was her friend, and now we are applying for a K-1 Visa. Do you think it will be an issue that she put friend and not boyfriend? They didn't mention that in her interview, but they did say something like "You haven't known him long enough to visit him"

Don't worry about being below the poverty line as a student. Most students are below the poverty line. They realize once you get a "real" job and start making that good money you'll have no problem taking care of your beneficiary.
Your plan as outlined above sounds fine. Send what you have but make sure there's evidence you're going to make more money this year. The employer letter and pay statements should be fine.
However, if you're not going to be working until at least May, you may want to get a co-sponsor in the mean time since the interview could be sooner than May. Just in case, I'd have someone (rich uncle, maybe?) co-sponsor her on an I-134. If you're going to be working by then or if a company's already made you an offer, that should suffice. If not, go with the co-sponsor.
Thanks a lot for the advice. I really wanted to get the process started now so that she can be here soon after we graduate. I better start job hunting!

Hi,
I noticed in the Russian FAQ that people said their fiance in Russia would need to bring the sponsors w-2's for the interview, but the Moscow website says this
Financial documents from the petitioner – a US citizen: please note, that Affidavit of Support (form I-134) is not required, but may be requested. Please submit financial documents to show that the applicant will not become a public charge in the United States. Such documents may include, but are not limited to:
* Most recent year tax returns (form 1040) or tax transcripts from IRS
* Copy of bank account
* Earnings and leave statement
* W-2 forms
* Letter from employer
My w-2 for last year puts me below the poverty line (I'm a full time graduate student) but I graduate in May and will get a job and be above the poverty line by the time she has her interview. So I was hoping to send the earnings statement and letter from employer, as the website says "it may include...w-2 forms or tax returns" Have the requirements changed over the past few years?

I just looked at the website for the Consulate in Vladivostok, they don't process K1's. I also looked at the immigrant visa section on the Embassy in Moscow website and it contained K1 information. I can say with 99% certainty that your fiancee's interview will take place in Moscow.
Maybe I'll call up those fine folks at USCIS just to make sure she gets go Moscow

As far as I have read here, people who have made mistakes about the embassy on their I-129F had it corrected once the petition was approved and sent to NVC. I believe it will be automatically directed to the correct embassy.
Wow thanks for the speedy response. this website is fantasitc!

Hi,
I just received my NOA1 text message notification last week (my fiance lives in Russia) and on the 1-129F I put that she would have her interview in St. Petersburg. But when reading through the embassy/consul ratings I learned that only the Moscow Embassy handles immigration in Russia. So I need to change my 1-129F to state that she will have the interview in Moscow. How can I do this? What do you think will happen?
Thanks for any advice you can give

#######! I saw the section on the St. Petersburg Consul webpage that says fiance visa, so I wrote that my fiance would apply for a visa from the St. Petersburg consul. But I read this and double checked and you guys are right. Clicking on the link takes you to the Moscow site's fiance visa instructions, which I didn't notice before. So I've put the wrong city down for her interview! What should I do? What do you think will happen?
Which customs line when AOS at JFK???

she applied for her greencard and has the paper saying that her greencard application is processing...but no greencard. She has the AOS and work permit in the meantime though.
