  1. Hello to all K-1 folks who have dealt with the U.S. Special Interests section in Havana. I just called today and got an interview date of October 26, 2011. What an immense amount of time to wait! The lady I spoke with said I can call every other day to try to move up that date, as she said cancellations could result in getting the date moved up. Rescheduling requests are handled on a first come, first served basis, so she suggested calling every other day.

My question is, does anyone have experience trying to move up the interview date by calling in as this person suggested I do? One has to go through the BS of buying a PIN for $11, which gives you only 8 minutes of time. So assuming that an average call will take two minutes for somebody to tell me that nothing has changed, that equates to four calls per $11...and if I call every other day, that means I'm looking at spending about $55 per month to be able to monitor whether any openings have occurred due to cancellations. I'd like to hear from anyone who has tried and the results of such efforts.

Thanks very much for your time. Adelante2010.

  2. Hello all, I was pretty surprised the other day to find the NOA2 in my mailbox a scant 40 days after I got my NOA1. I was thrilled that the approval came in so quickly, as I was expecting a much longer wait given the timelines I had seen on this website. I understand that the package will now go to the Nat'l Visa Center, where it should arrive in about two weeks. Afterward, however, I'm not so thrilled with what I see...it appears that the average wait to get an interview in Havana is well over 200 days. I see someone got an interview in something like 138 days, however, so maybe my luck will continue....anyone with some experience in how long it took to get the interview in Havana, please feel free to comment....especially with what you did between NOA2 and the interview specific to Cuba. Thanks!

  3. This is my first post. I spent much of the last few days readying my K-1 petition and supporting docs to send in on Monday. I did one last check of the USCIS website and found, much to my surprise, good news. As of November 23, 2010, the fee for the K-1 petition is being reduced from $455 to $340 for submissions postmarked on or after November 23. For that kind of money, I can wait a day to submit.

I was stoked, but some of you may be gnashing your teeth. If this hasn't been posted before, perhaps folks like me who were about to send in the petition can wait a couple of days and save some money. Many other fees are being adjusted as well. Link below.
