Anne, welcome, et je confirme, essaie de ne pas stresser. A partir du moment où vous êtes ensemble "pour de vrai" et que tu leur fournis quelques photos de vous ensemble avec un grand sourire qui transpire l'amour, c'est tout bon!

J'ai eu mon interview green card il y a quelques semaines et j'avais apporté des justificatifs supplémentaires (dont un magnifique photo-montage de nous 2 depuis 2008!), la réaction de la dame qui nous a fait passé l'entretien: "wow, you guys travel a lot, I'm so jealous!" et c'est tout!

Some companies are familiar with having international interns, and won't have to pay the "visit fee". I would consider asking the companies you are interested in working with if they already had foreign interns, that would make things easier.

For my part, I received 2 J1 for internships: the first one where the company was the sponsor, so I didn't have to pay anything. It's fairly rare, but it exists! (and it was non-profit)

For the second one, I had to work with a sponsor and paid them to issue me the J1 + the insurance fees. They were based in Paris and were working with CIEE, which is one of the biggest agency for the J1s in the US. Check their website out.

Je suis chez AT&T aussi avec un forfait iphone et mon mari chez Verizon. C'est sur que par rapport à mon ancien forfait 3G + textos + 3 numéros illimité chez Orange ça parait beaucoup, en même temps tout est relatif, les salaires aussi, non?

Pour le vol, j'ai pris un aller simple , 400€ avec Aer Lingus et pas besoin d'annuler.

He moi je suis Lorrain aussi :-) 18 ans dans la region de Metz Thionville. Et j'adore l'Alsace! Riquewirh, Ribeauvile, Colmar et la petite France a Strasbourg :-) Et la bonne bouffe et les bons vins d'Alsace mmmmm!!!

Trop dingue, la Lorraine en force! J'ai grandi dans les Vosges, à Rupt sur Moselle plus exactement, tout près de l'Alsace, des bonnes recettes et du bon vin!

Bon je n'avais pas de Riesling sous la main, donc j'ai opté pour un Chardonnay de Washington un peu sec, et ai divisé la recette en 2 pour avoir 4 mini-tourtes.

ça fait un moment que je ne suis pas venue faire un tour sur ce forum, mais je vois que les discussions vont bon train!

Mon rdv green card est prévu ce mercredi (yihaa!) et j'ai une petite question: sur ma convocation, ils indiquent que je dois venir avec les originaux + copies des docs suivants:

- I-693 (medical exam form) in a sealed envelope

Or la "sealed envelope" je l'ai envoyée au moment d'envoyer la demande d'AOS. Le docteur m'a fait une copie, mais il me semble bien avoir lu que je devais joindre l'enveloppe à la demande. Non?

Pour ceux qui ont déjà passé l'entretien, qu'avez vous apporté? Est-ce qu'une copie intégrale de tout ce qui a été envoyé pour la demande originale suffit? (+bien sur les passeports, photos, EAD etc)

Sinon j'ai vécu mon premier superbowl...Assez marrant je dois dire, et vie d'expat oblige, j'avais préparé une tourte alsacienne aux grenouilles!! ah ah mon mari n'en revenait pas.

I'm looking for information for a friend of mine. She came in the US with the Fullbright program under a J1. Her boyfriend came with the same program, but a year later. In case they get married here, is she able to switch to J2 (considering she will be the spouse of the J1 holder) and extend her stay in the US?

She also has a 2-years home residence requirement, so she would need to apply to the waiver.

There might be a possibility for you to abandon the K1, return to your home country and apply for a J1 or H1B if you find an employer. It can be really fast if you interview and set everything up before leaving.

I haven't heard anyone doing that so far but I don't see why it would be impossible. I think your situation could use the advise of a lawyer. But in any case you have to get married if you don't want to! First is the relationship, second the immigration, sometimes people tend to forget that ;-)

Moi je vis à Chicago depuis le mois de mars et me suis mariée le 14 septembre dernier. Sinon je suis née dans les Vosges et j'ai passé pas mal de temps à Paris avant de rejoindre mon chéri.

Sinon là je reviens de mes biometrics: 15 min envoyé c'est pesé! J'aime pas trop ma tête sur la photo (cheveux tout raplapla à cause du bonnet il faisait 1°C ce matin) mais vu l'amabilité de madame fingerprints, je n'ai pas osé demandé à la refaire...

Concernant la publication des bans, effectivement le consulat dit que c'est obligatoire, mais rien ne presse. Je le ferai vraiment si je suis en manque de paperasse (= pas tout de suite!!) et je crois que certaines personnes ne le font pas et ça ne pose pas de pb. Rien d'obligatoire en tout cas vis-à-vis des démarches pour l'AOS.

Demain départ pour NYC, et Paris la semaine prochaine, yihou!

ps: j'ai une petite question concernant mon AP. J'ai eu l'email confirmant l'accord de l'AP ce matin. Seulement je ne pense pas que j'aurai reçu le document avant de partir, mais mon chéri vient à Noel et pourra donc le prendre avec lui. J'ai vu sur des forums des personnes qui disent que c'est indispensable de l'avoir sur soi avant de sortir des US. Je ne vois pas vraiment pourquoi étant donné que le doc est fait pour re-rentrer aux US, et que mon I-94 aura de toute façon une date postérieure à la date à laquelle mon AP a été accordé. Any thought on that?

Ahhh le pumpkin cheesecake! Une de mes petites faiblesses. D'ailleurs en parlant de ça, ma soeur m'a demandé une recette "originale" (=pas celles qu'on trouve sur marmiton avec du spéculos). Perso je n'ai jamais fait de cheesecake, il y en a qui ont l'air pas mal sur 101cheesecakerecipes, est-ce que l'un/l'une d'entre vous aurait déjà tenté ou une bonne recette sous la main?

I agree, the most logical would be to get married in the US while still legal and file an AOS.

This is what I did, and it looks like it's working but I didn't have to apply for a waiver. Is there a big chance that the waiver gets rejected?

I was in the same situation, I got married and filed the AOS during the grace period of my J1.

In the box "current USCIS status" I put "exchange visitor" and on the expiration date I put the end of the end of the J1 (08/20/2010) and not the date of the end of the grace period (09/19/2010).

I remember I had trouble sorting this out also, since I didn't want to file an application with an "expired status" but I asked USCIS at an Infopass appointment and they told me to do that. Also, they strongly advise to file the AOS before the end of the grace period, which I did, and it looks like you are going to do so as well.

So far, I haven't gotten any RFE, it looks like my AOS is following a regular process (NOA, biometrics appointment etc)

L'autre jour j'ai vu un film sur des gens de tout horizon qui essaient d'obtenir la greencard a leur facon, on y voit les bureaux de USCIS et les entretiens, c'etait pas mal. Pour ceux qui ont Netflix ca s'appelle crossing over avec Harrison Ford.

I have my bio appointment scheduled on the 19th of Nov.

1) Has anyone done a walk-in at the Norridge, IL center?

2) I live in Chicago this center is farther from my place than 2 others (I checked online and there's 2 ASC in the city of Chicago, much closer to where I live, I think it's due to some recent change of zipcode in my neighborhood) so is it possible to go to another center than the one stated in the NOA? Apparently, fingerprints are all going in the same database, no?

3) I know it sounds like I'm looking for some trouble, but would it be possible to do a walk-in at another center?

I got married in September and filed an AOS as well. You don't have to change your last name and I don't think it will affect the process of the AOS. I am keeping my name and my passport will remain as it is. You absolutely have the right to keep your last name and not to take your husband's, therefore, no need to make a new passport. Je viens de recevoir ma lettre de rdv pour les biometrics. Ce qui est bizarre c'est qu'ils ne m'ont pas filé le centre le + proche (Norridge, IL, alors que j'habite à Chicago et qu'il y a 2 autres centres + près de chez moi)

Y a-t-il une raison à cela? J'imagine qu'essayer de changer le lieu de rdv va mettre le b**** donc je préfère pas tenter! En revanche, je vois pas mal de gens qui ont tenté le walk-in avant leur rdv, est-ce que cela est déjà arrivé à certains d'entre vous? Et si oui, pour quel centre?

I am in the same process. I received a J1 intern and am in the AOS process after marrying my american husband.

I don't see why USCIS would ask for more than what is stated on your wife's passport and DS2019, i.e. that the box "subject to the 2 years rule" has not been checked by the French Embassy, when her visa has been issued.

Usually, people are subject to this rule when their internship or training has been sponsored and funded by the US Government or the Government of the country of origin, like the Fullbright fellowships.

Requiring more evidence would mean that they're thinking the Embassy did not its job, no?

I plan to travel to Europe for Christmas, and would like to leave around the 1st of December.

I don't think I'll have received my AP before leaving, but probably a bit later and my husband will leave to meet me the 21st of Dec. Is it ok if he brings the AP with him? Has someone done that before?

Do I absolutely need the official document or a proof that it's been approved?
