  1. Hi Everyone! I'm hoping if someone out there could help me find an agent or a shipping company near Akron, Ohio. I'm planning to send a balikbayan box by the end of this month. I've tried to contact this shipping company on the link posted but unfortunately they require a minimum of 5 boxes. http://www.balikbayanbox-shipping.com/philippines/ohio/. I am willing to drive up to Cleveland or anywhere an hour away from Akron. Thank you!!!

  2. Go to NSO Office, fill-up a form and wait for verification process. It depends on which NSO office you'll go. Most of the time you can get it the same day. I suggest you get 3 copies of Marriage Certificate and 3 copies of your Birth Certificate. You'll also have to get Another certificate from NSO which is CEMAR also known as "Advisory of Marriage". You'll need it for the Embassy Interview. Best of Luck!

  3. If you're currently working overseas, which Consulate are you planning to have your interview? Will you come back to the Philippines and have your interview in Manila US Embassy? When it comes to US Visa Processing, you have to talk to a US Embassy representative about the requirements and not with the Philippine Embassy. You sure don't want to spend on those red ribbon authentication fees if it's not even required.

  4. Better call NVC and ask about it. With my case USCIS had approved my petition under my maiden name and when it reached NVC my husband called about it and the NVC representative said that they'll issue the visa under the name that's on the passport. We didn't even bother to write a letter to NVC about the name change because my maiden name is indicated on the form too under [Alias used (if married, write maiden name)] But to clear things out I suggest you give them a call, just to be sure. Good luck!

  5. This is my take on this,

-After your wedding your then wife should get a copy of your marriage certificate from NSO to start the entire process. (Getting the Marriage Certificate usually take awhile depending on where you got married)

-Then even if she already have a passport now which I believe is still on her maiden name, I suggest that she have it amended to her married name. It would be best that her passport will be on her married name 'cause the name on it will be the one used for her visa and her green card. This will spare her with all the worries of having her green card amended. To have her passport amended she'll need the marriage certificate from NSO and the CFO Guidance Counseling Certificate of Attendance, this certificate is a requirement for all Filipino who has a foreign spouse.

    Here's the link: http://www.cfo.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1348%3Afiancee-spouses-and-other-partners-of-foreign-nationals&catid=140&Itemid=843

Get all the NSO Birth Certificates of kids. Read on the checklist given on the guides above under CR-1 Process about the form needed. And when you start the process you gotta be patient and wait, read more too. Best of Luck!

  6. Folks,

My beloved fiancee lives on Mindanao, so we're trying to figure out the best way to handle the medical exam/interview. How close can they be together? Is it possible to do it in one trip or would it be better for two trips?

    Just looking for some advice.

    Mahalo nui loa.

I'm from Mindanao too, had my medical exam started a week before my interview. Passed & had the results on the 2nd day. If your fiancee doesn't have any medical issues and passed the medical exam she can do both medical exam and interview in one trip.

  7. hello girl1where u going to to attend siminar in CFO?me also iam going to attend siminar next weEK IN cebu.Im bringing docs like my NBI .Birth certificat.Marriage license,2 valid ID.I Think this all they need it.and also we need to bring pic our husband or fiance .Because other say they going to ask pic and they going to get it after siminar. And thers one on one interview also after...

Is your husband divorced? If so make sure to bring copies of his divorce decree. I went to Cebu for my CFO counseling and they are tough there unlike in Manila. Goodluck!

  8. How long would it generally take to update a passport in the Philippines to my married name?

I would suggest that you visit any DFA office and talk to a representative and explain your case, 'cause now they are a lot of delays for processing of passport even if you'll just update your lastname. You know how it works here in PI.

  9. Why don't you update your passport to your married name so your greencard will be in your married name? When we applied for the visa everything was in married name for my wife. It was less complicated that way.

I agree with the above post. When you fill in DS230 on #1 put your married name and on #2 your maiden name. You don't have to explain further why on your G235A you wrote your maiden name 'cause NVC will see that the case is for the same person since your maiden name will be indicated on DS230 #2. Remember the process won't end in USEM, there's still more process even when you already get to US. Better keep things in order while you're still here.

  10. Check the sticker on her passport by SLMEC from her medical, visa is usually issued depending on the validity of the medical exam. If she went to get her medical 1 month before her interview date then the visa will be valid for 5 months. I took my medical exam June 30,2011 had my interview July 7, 2011 my visa is valid 'til December 30,2011.

  11. Well I am getting a little confused, One guy that's been to Surigao at the Northern most part of the Island felt safe there but doesnt want to go to far south.

the guy thats been to General Santos at the southern etreme feels safe there but won't go west.

Mrs CDO comes from the city with the 2009 massacre named after it and is vouching for it's safety.

    :help:

OK my conclusion is............... Stay out of the Southwest city of Cotaboto

Massacre in 2009,our city was named after it? Are you sure? Where did you get that? Are you talking about the Maguindanao Massacre? FYI that happened in South Cotabato, not anywhere near Cagayan de Oro. All I can say is if you don't want to be a target when you come to visit Mindanao or any other place in Philippines then don't go flaunting your wealth, keep a low profile and show utmost respect to everyone.

  12. Hello every one, who among you here has try to purchase ticket on line with your hubby using online, I already have my itinerary but then I can not find what terminal will I be on the day of my flight.....

Since i gonna have my flight August 11, with Phil airline, from Manila to LAX... pls reply....

    thanks in advance

Hi There! All PAL flights are on NAIA Terminal 2.

  13. I think you can take your son's BC out of the plastic too. All you have to give at POE is the brown envelope that has all your docs. In my interview the pre-screener asked for my son's BC, when I receive my visa packet my son's BC is folded outside the brown envelope along with the instructions. So i guess it's not needed.

  14. Now this gave me a good laugh. I am from Cagayan de Oro, Northern Part of Mindanao and I could say that it's safe here. My husband loves our place and every time he comes to visit and I go to Manila to meet him at NAIA he would always say that he can't wait to get to my hometown. He feels safer in my hometown than staying in Manila. There's a lot of crazy people everywhere you just have to watch your back.

  15. The earlier post is right about the personal copy for your NBI clearance. You can just renew it and not go through the entire application anymore. And the situation in NBI Manila is ugly, last week it's all over the news.

"i can't get them at the other province since i wasn't born in there except in the main.."

Well I thought the NBI data base is nationwide, same as NSO and all other government offices. :)

If all else fail then better wait for your NBI clearance in your own province. In my own opinion it would be better to have 3 weeks delay on sending the complete IV packet than send it incomplete and get an RFE and would cost 1 month or even more delays.

Oh I don't know how government offices works in your province but if you haven't had that Advisory of Marriage certificate from NSO A.K.A.(CENOMAR/CEMAR) then better get it now, preparing ahead for the interview.

    Goodluck!

  16. Better wait for the NBI clearance if you don't want to have an RFE and delays with NVC. How about trying to contact an NBI office on a nearby province,As far as I know there are a lot of NBI offices. Who knows maybe in your neighbor town the releasing is fast. It wouldn't hurt to ask around. :)
