As an update, in our case the approval notice did = the green card. My husband received his approval notice on July 20th and today in the mail he got his permanent resident card!!!!
We are happy to be done and thankful it went so smoothly!!! No interview and 4 months since we applied. Good luck to all that are still waiting and thank you for all the help!!
As an aside, we never received the "a card has been ordered" email or update on the USCIS website.

We got an email on July 15th saying we would receive a Welcome Notice, assumed this meant we were approved. Now today we got an email saying an Approval Notice has been mailed....is this the green card? Thanks.

We live in NYC and my husbands AOS case was transferred to the CSC on May 17 and has been touched 3 or 4 times since then, most recently today. We are hopeful to be approved without an interview just to avoid the hassle. We have been very lucky, with smooth processing so far. We sent the AOS/EAD/AP package in early March, he had biometrics in early April and by mid May his EAD and Advance Parole were approved. Our biggest concerns were his ability to work and go back to Canada so we are very happy.
Good luck!

I can't tell you why but I can tell you it's a good thing. They typically approve them without an interview. My husband's was approved with no interview after being transferred to California. So, Congrats!
