  1. Just wondering.. To check the status of an application besides seeing the letter how do others see the options Processing, Administration, Granted and those messages I see them talking about. Every time I check the status thing I see just the letter. Does it only change after the interview or what happens?? Others seem to be able to see another screen with updates relating to the case on where it is etc???

    Hope someone can help me!

    Thanks

    Buddy!

You are talking about Diversity visa lottery status, right?

Well if that is the case, you don't get to see other options. Your status will change when your number is current. You will get an email saying to check again notification by using your confirmation code, last name, year of birth. Then your notification letter will change to Interview scheduled for this date. This usually happens a month before your number is scheduled for interview.

You should consider yourself lucky, most other VJ members have to wait for years to get visa, gather all documents, and worry about their significant others... We legally skipped the line:)

  2. Thanks so much everyone. Am in Nigeria. I am presenting combined results for my SSCE. One is ready and i was told d oda one wil be ready early next year and same wt my OND result. Pls, what do i do?

    @Dejie4live,

Did you try calling the US embassy in Lagos and asking them this question? They should be able to answer this for you.

I suggest you call them tomorrow, and also double check for the price of the DV visa (their website still states $819 which has been changed as of February 2nd to $440!)Good luck, and let us know what the answer from the embassy was.

  3. Postponing a DV interview can be dangerous. By the time they reschedule you there may no longer be visas available. You could try the postponed interview as it is still fairly early. You could also try going with what you have and hope they give you a demand for more. If they aren't satisifed with the results you have , but you pass in every other way they should just ask for the right papers.

And yet if he does go to the interview without a crucial document( I presume he said he has high school finished, so eligible by education, not by work experience) of education he can and will be flatly denied, with no second chance. One needs to understand that DV lottery visa is a one chance visa: if you don't provide what is needed from the first go, you don't get it. It's that simple.

I wish OP good luck, in whatever decision he makes.

  4. Thanks Ndu, please is it a must i go for my interview wt my certificate cos its nt ready yet i only hv my transcripts and statement of result for O'level. Pls its urgent. Thanks.

I strongly suggest to postpone the interview until you have all required documents. Otherwise you risk not getting visa approved (and losing $440).

  5. I'll look into that this eveing :). Thanks for the info.

Thanks, and while you're at it I believe that Diversity lottery visa guide needs updating as well:

    1. applicants no longer receive a winning mail to their address, but rather have to log in using the confirmation code they hopefully saved after applying to the visa lottery, and see if they are selected or not selected. Other changes in case progress is also visible by logging in with one's confirmation code.

    2. as of 2.2.2012 the diversity lottery visa issuance fee is reduced from $819 to $440 per person.

    3. 2012 results are up as well.

  6. I have a question about this timeline thing:

As much as I would like to update the VJ timeline (and I did try) there is just no way to update is as it is not made compatible to the Diversity lottery visa, which is my case.

So do you guys want me to make up things on timeline, or would you mind getting a diversity lottery visa option for us who are not doing family/work based immigration process?

    Thanks

  7. Hi all,

My sister is a DV 2012 winner. She arrived in the United States this week and is staying with me. I will like to know what the next immigration process is. Does she need to complete any paperwork? She arrived with an envelope given to her by the US embassy in Ghana and turned it in to immigration. Is that all? Can she begin job searching or need to apply for a Social Security card first?

I would appreciate it if someone can walk me through the process after arrival in the United States.

    Thank you!

Same as any other immigrant: get the SSN, her green card will be arriving within few weeks, and start looking for a job. Congrats to your sister and good luck!

  8. This whole immigration system stinks. When our loved ones sponsored us they have to wait six to fifteen years or more to get a visa number, meanwhile each year they have a visa lottery giving away some 500.000 visa numbers and people waiting in line, working their buts off, paying taxes and have to be separated from their love ones. This is one messed up system. When they can prove a child relationship to a parent, or a brother and sister, they have to take time to prove some of those marriages. What make a marriage more immediate than a child or a sibling relation? Every year they raising fees, but the inhumane treatment gets worst! Who is seeking our interest? What about the availability of visa numbers for our love ones? We are a slave of the system.

    :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:

Why are you so upset? You (*and others)could have played diversity lottery as well, and cut down on the waiting time. That is what I did even though my sister petitioned me a year and a half ago (wait time would have been 10 years had I not won the Diversity Lottery)

Also, there are 50.000 DL visas not as you wrote 500.000.

  9. What do you mean "invite"? I would hope you included your wife and children (if you have any) in the application you sent to KY, and that they would be accompanying you on their visas as well.

If you mean invite family and friends for a visit, they have to get tourist visas.

Thanks but after obtaining a greencard, when can one invite his wife, family or friends.

  10. Pls how much is d dv 2012 visa fee for Nigerian winners. Smone pls help me out

What makes you think Nigerian winners are special/different from any other DV winner in regards to anything, visa fee included?

It's $819 per applicant (so if you won visa and have a wife and 3 kids it would be $819 (for you) + $819 (for your wife) + $819 (1st kid) +$819 (2nd kid) + $819 (3rd kid)).

  11. You can write an email to them: consularcairoiv@state.gov, put your case number in subject, then in body explain what happened and ask for rescheduling. All the best!

    Hi Everyone,

I need help if anyone knows about a similar case to ours. My fiancee just received her interview letter today October 23rd to let her know the interview was scheduled on October 17th, which was 6 days ago. We still don't know if the mistake was DHL or the U.S. embassy in Cairo. Anyway, we obviously need to reschedule......how do we do that and to whom do we talk to? The embassy seems to have no phone inquiries and I called several times using several consulate services numbers with no luck....no one answers the phone except a voice recording. If the mistake was from DHL postal services, will that deny us the chance to reschedule? Thank you.
