  1. After the summer season it costs about $1,000 for a round trip from Lithuania. I suugest you have her come to the States to visit. There is a chance she may not even like it here. This way you can keep your job and attend to your ailing family. If you can't afford the $1,000, how would you support her in the future. Be you need to meet and she needs to visit the States. Transition for many is not that easy.

  2. OK, thanks everyone. I always thought the check would be cashed pronto.

Not to mention I'm not too keen with the idea that my package could be lost. Forget the money, copies of passports, social security numbers, wedding license; it would be a dream package for anyone who wanted to steal your identity.

So we sit now, tick, tock, tick....thanks again.

  3. Hi everyone,

As you all know, nothing in this process appears easy. I sent in the AOS forms to the Chicago Lockbox and received confirmation from the US Postal Service on June 17th that it was in fact delivered. This Friday will be 3 weeks since that delivery and the check has not been cashed nor have we received any notification from USCIS. I just called the 800 number and was told that it can take up to 30 days to receive notification (which I can believe). But I find it hard to believe USCIS would take this long to cash the check.

Anyone else have this experience where USCIS has sat on the check for over two weeks?

Sorry, if this is a duplicate for some.

  5. If you didn't know about the fee, I would suggest you go through the links and your package very carefully. Last thing you want is to send it in, wait 7 months and get an RFE. I checked my package 3 times and even waited a day to review it again before I sent it. Its very doable, but you should go through it carefully.

  6. I know police certificates are valid for a year from the date of issue. I also know that the Embassy or Consulate has the discretion of asking for a police certificate that was issued 6 months prior to the interview.

What I would like to know has anyone who has recently had an interview submitted a police certificate that was older than 6 months prior to the interview but was less than a year since the issue date (hence it was still valid) and was it accepted or were you asked for one that was more current.

hi, mine was issued 8 months before interview, all was good, no questions asked.
