  1. This may help someone. This morning I noticed this:

DFA Consular Office Issues Advisory on Passport Applications

    http://dfa.gov.ph/main/index.php/newsroom/dfa-releases/2962-dfa-consular-office-issues-advisory-on-passport-applications

We sent an email asking if a punched passport can do this. They replied...can't extend a cancelled passport. Don't know why they didn't offer an extension when she renewed March 11 because they knew of the delay at the time.

  2. My wife and step child have been waiting on their passports for about 1.5 months now. They were told that on Monday they would have them, now my wife is told that the machines are broken and not sure when they will receive. Typical Philippine BS! I called the Philippine Consulate in Chicago and the lady said they have a backog in Manila and not sure how long it will take. Has anyone had a similar experience and does anyone know how long this could be before they recieve their passports? This has caused a big delay in our NVC process, if it wasnt for this they could have been here end of May.

    Thanks,

    Tony

I have run into this as well. She renewed on March 11 at a RCO and we are still waiting for it. When she renewed the signs said it would be ready by April 15 due to a central bank issue. We already gathered the forms/documentation and the NOA2 was approved 2/14 so I have concerns about things expiring. It has been a frustrating experience because she can't do the medical or visa interview without the passport. We have not been told any estimated regarding a passport completion since she renewed.

  3. Here's what you need for the medical:

    1. Passport (must be good for six months).

    2. Three passport photos.

    3. $213.35 fee (in Php).

    4. Interview appointment confirmation and/or NVC letter with MNL case number and/or NOA2.

    5. Ball pen.

    6. Sweater/jacket (it's cold inside St. Lukes).

    7. Comfortable footwear (for walking up and down the stairs).

    8. Snack (manong guard won't look in your purse).

    9. No red tide.

I don't know about not having a passport because I've never seen that question come up here on VJ.

    Nice list! Much appreciated.

This may be helpful to some people. I found a SLMCEC flowchart at the end of this page: http://www.slec.ph/us-visa-applicants.shtml

Regarding the passport, DFA said it won't be ready until April 15. Hopefully she won't need to do the medical without a passport, but trying to plan ahead just in case. I have a feeling more people may run into this situation due to the current DFA/central bank delay.

  4. Hi, I have looked at different sources for what is needed and they are inconsistent (see below). Can anyone with first-hand knowledge share what is needed?

    1. http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3218.html

What should I bring to my medical examination?

    * Appointment letter sent by the National Visa Center or an e-mail confirmation from the Visa Information and Appoinment Service.

    * Appropriate medical examination fee.

    * Passport (valid for at least 6 months)

    * Two colored pictures (2 inches x 2 inches) with a white background(two are for the visa and one is for the medical report). <-- Wouldn't that be 3 photos, not 2?

    2. Most recent "Immigrant and K Visa Applicant Appointment Package/Instructions"

    http://photos.state.gov/libraries/manila/19452/public/Revised%20K1%20Instruction%20Packet%20_3__rtf2_001.pdf

"When you go to SLMCEC for medical examination, you must bring your passport and one photo (size: 2” x 2”)."

    3. http://www.slec.ph/us-visa-applicants.shtml

    REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

    1. Valid passport

    2. 4 pieces recent 2x2 visa photos

    3. Appointment letter from the Embassy or Instruction letter from the National Visa Center (NVC), if available,

    4. 2 photocopies of your Appointment Letter/ Instruction Letter

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Originally I thought 1 photo is needed for medical and 2 at the interview for the DS forms. Then another later for CFO and 2 once in US.

Regarding an appointment letter, I think they no longer send those. I am planning to have her bring a copy of the NVC letter with the MNL case # and the NOA2.

She doesn't have her passport back yet, so does anyone know if she can still do medical without it? We did RUSH processing on March 11 for her passport, but it could be a long wait due to this: http://dfa.gov.ph/main/index.php/public-advisory/2701-maintenance-work-equipment-upgrades-in-epassport-ongoing

Any feedback regarding what is actually needed would be helpful.

  5. When my fiancee renewed her passport using Rush service at DFA there were signs indicating it won't be ready until around April 15. Something about not having paper from the central bank.

Found something on the DFA site regarding this.

Maintenance Work, Equipment Upgrades in ePassport Ongoing

    http://dfa.gov.ph/main/index.php/public-advisory/2701-maintenance-work-equipment-upgrades-in-epassport-ongoing

  6. My brain is still working on this. :) I remembered there are 2 other payments methods. I look on this page and it appears a passport # is not needed for the other 2 methods.

    http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ph/PayMyVisaFee.html

So I am thinking she can open a BPI account or use an existing one if it is part of BancNet.

  7. Appreciate the replies. It is a passport renewal so I was thinking they would just extend the expiration on the new passport they produce. Much like a driver's license here in the US.

I sent the US Visa Service Desk an email about this and here was their reply:

Thank you for contacting US Visa service desk.

Please be advised to wait for the renewed passport before paying the machine readable

application fee to avoid any delay in scheduling an appointment. Once you have received the renewed passport, bring a photocopy of her passport bio-page at the time of payment.

Do let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Well if the DFA estimate is correct then that will delay it by just over a month. So that makes me wonder what the delay would be if I used the old one. I am hoping to have her here to attend my brother's upcoming wedding.

Trying to think of some alternatives if there are any. My fiancee was asking me about my passport, but I am thinking that won't work. What if she used her old passport number and then when she gets the new one we call in and have them udpate it? I am thinking the old passport is just not valid for travel, but can be used for things like ID.

Has anyone else here had this similar situation?

  8. When my fiancee renewed her passport using Rush service at DFA there were signs indicating it won't be ready until around April 15. Something about not having paper from the central bank. We would like to pay the visa fee now so we can schedule the interview. She is in possession of her existing passport (expires April and holes punched in it) and has a copy of it (no holes punched). If the DFA's estimated date is correct and we must have the renewed one then this could greatly delay things.

Is the number different on the renewed passports?

Has anyone ever used their previous passport or copy of it to pay the fee/schedule interview?
