  1. also most Canada / US Crossing points have a Livingstons Customs brokerage house / agent on site.

90% of the time things go easily but if you want a guaranteed easy passage:

then contact a good agent like Livingstons and get your paper list of belongings

and items and make 3 copies of it.

(include make/ model/ type of vehicle you are driving with plate numbers)

    sign each as an original.

contact the brokerage and tell them anticipated crossing point

and day / time and then have them pre-apply for clearance.

clearance will still on be given on the day but they will already

have you in the system and profiled etc for when you arrive to cross.

you will need to sing a POA of the crossing.

99% chance that by doing it this way, you will get

a cursory glance over your things and waved through by customs.

(immigration is separate item as you already know).

  2. track the timelines:

if your process time in USCIS took longer than 150 days, like most of us, then chances are NVC will clear very quickly.

    NVC about a week,

pony express (DHL) to embassy about a week, then a waiting process time on that end

then an interview date. take a look at our timeline, it is not uncommon.

  3. a quick word of warning unless your fiancee lives in Moscow:

chances are the Russian mail will not arrive with her interview

    packet BEFORE her appointment.

so need to monitor and track the process as best you can.

and down load the forms directly form embassy site / USCIS

  4. we filed an AOS with AP to the Chicago lockbox on May 16th.

as of today June 9th, we have no NOA1, and our check has not been cashed.

    my questions:

    1. is this normal? (we have postal confirmation of delivery)

    2. will our case be transferred to the infamous Memphis, TN ?

    3. What can we do if we suspect a USCIS problem

as we now know state of TN cannot issue a driver permit because the

USCIS could not confirm wife's status in the USCIS computer system

that links to the TN system ????

we are very puzzled and a little worried ?

wonder if anyone and esp Gary& Alla have any wisdom on this one ?

  6. We are applying for AOS for my wonderful bride from a K1 visa.

we have assembled our packet and reviewed it but have questions:

we married within 30 days and are filing within 45 days,

    the embassy was Moscow.

    1. send to Texas lock box ? - we are in Tennessee.

    2. fee for our I-485 ?

    3. We are asking for adv parole to travel in August, and have the $360 fee ready for this.

do we send in my wife's passport with the application ?

  7. I am dual UK / USA and there is no problems for the children that I know of.

there is a state dept list of countries that are acceptable for dual citizenship.

having said that : both countries must be willing to issue passports etc.

The UK (Crawley office I believe) may insist of 12 months inside the UK

before allowing issuance of a UK passport / citizen ship test. IF the child

over 18 goes to study in the UK or possibly work (petitioned by the father) then

    there should be no problems.

However: if the father is a US government employee or contractor

then the use of UK (or any dual) Citizenship is not allowed.

The overseas passport has to be retained by the US govt as far as I know

until the employment term is up or renouncing of overseas citizenship.

note this information I post here is old, many changes may have altered the

    older way of doing things.

  8. Priority date moves from your NOA1.

currently: end of July dates NOA1 are having interviews last week of March.

August seem to be dropping in weeks 1 & 2 of April.

    no news further than that.

check NVC for case acceptance and forwarding.

then write to Moscow Consul especially if Fiancée is not Moscow.

Russian mails is notoriously disgusting inefficient.

Many times the packet 3 arrives AFTER the interview date if your fiancée

    is an outlying province.

drop me PM if you need more info, may have to put you in touch

with my fiancée for the Russian forum for K1s that helps on their end ALOT.

  9. Most of us K1 applicants had a very shoddy experience at Vermont Service Center

and it has caused alot of heartache and strife so PRAISE where it is due:

    NVC is rocking:

They received our case file from Vermont on the 28th Jan

and it was out on the 1st February - next day :)

It has arrived at the Moscow embassy (Feb 3rd) and we are on our way.

FYI for all (having dealt with phone drones at USCIS):

the man (actual human being - yes) at NVC who answered my call

    was 1. factual, 2. respectful, 3. concise 4. helpful

and NVC rocked the application through next day.

Praise where it is due - NVC - you ROCK !

  10. for cell international service :

I use telna - they charge my home rates (3c per min to Europe / 12 c to Russia)

they are super helpful and great people based in Nevada.

cell phone calls a byass (US number) then the international number.

for my fiancee: we set up a yahoo account.

she can SMS me through yahoo when she is home or in her e mailbox at work

at no charge. we can sms all day for free if we wish.

for camera / voice we use yahoo, we can watch youtube and share pictures together.

    its all free.

send me a private message if this helps and you need more info.

ps. the telna people can set up an overseas calling to your number

via their calling card system. it charges at your US rates.

  11. my advise for those at 6 months already:

    1. service requests are useless and a waste of time.

    2. call daily- get name and number of everyone you speak to.

    - ask for the same person over again. at least once a week INSIST on

getting through to an actual immigration officer (not a phone drone).

    3. get the overview of your case and timelines ready and mail them

to your Senators - you are overdue the process the USCIS told congress.

therefore as their funding is on the line : get your Senators on board.

-go to their websites, download the immigration release form - they can do nothing

without a release signed by you - it is federal privacy law.

    4. be fair, firm and above all calm on the phone.

    never be abusive or arrogant.

    5. take notes, notes and more notes - did I mention take notes?

times, names, officers numbers, congress is asking for them.

6.if your Congress reps are on the ways and means committee or oversight

for immigration, state department or budgets - they need to know.

    write to them also.

7 IMPORTANT: sometimes the USCIS website is not updated.

there are many times when the website shows no action when indeed

an noa2 turns up in the mail. so be calm and firm when asking for the immigration officer.

    ask pertinent questions:

    - has the petition been delayed for a lack of documentation ?

    - has the petition been delayed for any other reasons such as country of recipient ? (e.g. Egypt at the moment)

    - What can I do to assist the USCIS to get this petition answered ASAP ?

    - is there any reason that my petition is now 30 days beyond the timeline the director promised congress ?

you need to let your voices be heard.

your senator can expedite your case if the case is 30 days beyond the 5 month mark.

But their offices take about week to 2 weeks to get your forms filed and assigned

to correct staffer to follow it through.

tax payers we deserve better, and many in Congress are hearing us at last.

when its time for the funding arguments, you will see changes.

be kind - the USCIS staff had their hands tied by the executive branch

to prioritise other visas not K1s or IR1s. they are 'stuck in the middle'

Tax payers and fee payers, when the system can kick out a humanitarian visa in 8 days

we know the 180+ days are just atrocious. we deserve better.

  12. looks like the following:

NOA2s from CSC - clearing month of August.

VSC clearing month of July (except RFEs)

if you are on humanitarian - they cleared December 2010.

CSC are on the 5 month mark.

VSC are on the 'expedite' edge - 30 days late from 5 months.

VSc are working but have 'other priorities'.

A BIG congratulations to all who are NOA2.

its is a huge step at VSC as they has been processing July 2010

    since August 26th 2010. - go figure-

if USCIS want to know why we are upset - look at the figures

    from our perspective.

    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<CONGRATULATIONS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  13. I have no vitriol to Haitians or charitable or humanitarians issues either.

however, the facts are clear and when I release all the info I have amassed in the

last 2 weeks regarding the executive direction of this white house, I will

accept your apology, indeed you are already forgiven.

the facts are resounding: VSC are buried but their focus is

not with US citizen tax payer petitions. PERIOD.

To donate a percentage of resources to such humanitarian issues

I have no problem with, to reward illegals I have an issue.

But to COMPLETELY prioritize all K1s and other visas

UNTIL 30 days beyond the timeline 'guidleines' is disgusting.

Yes, you heard me right : VISAS are not being processed and will only expedite

after 30 days beyond the normal processing times at VSC.

their priorities are in 'other areas' - verbatim to a Senior Senatorial staffer.

therefore no K1 applicant at VSC can expect a case look until after 6 months not 5.

As for me and my house, we do serve the Lord and I spent Christmas at orphanages

in Russia with my fiancee, where she has faithfully served and given for many years.

I have no problem with charity - but to completely take away from petitioners who

fund the USCIS and tax payers who fund government is disgusting.

Nov 2012 cannot come soon enough for many reasons.
