The Journey is almost completed. Passed the naturalization interview. ^_^

I arrived 1 hour and 30 minutes early for my interview. I walked to the Naturalization waiting area glass window and dropped off my Appointment Notice in the wooden tray. Then someone on the other side of the glass window collected the letter.

30 minutes prior to my scheduled interview time, 10 other people and myself were rounded up and followed the USCIS representative. I was interviewed as scheduled (15 minutes time), and was asked to write "Columbus Day is on October 12th" and asked to read aloud "Abraham Lincoln was born in February".

    The 6 questions:

    1. What is an amendment

    2. What does the constitution do

    3. What did the Declaration of Independence do

    4. What is supreme law of the land

    5. What are two rights in the Declaration of Independence

    6. What does the President's cabinet do

After the good news, I walked back to the Naturalization waiting area for my Oath Ceremony Letter. About an hour passed and I received the Oath Ceremony Letter and was on my way home!

  2. Moaz,

Today, I went to the Application Support Center (ASC) for my Biometrics appointment. I was in and out of the building in 10 minutes.

After coming back from the ASC, I checked my mail and received a USCIS envelope had a yellow-coloured letter inside it that stated to (1) Bring state ID and to (2) bring passport, & travel documents to the interview. (We were going to bring these item(s) to the interview anyways. Probably just a friendly reminder...)

I have not received an Interview Notice yet so I don't know when/where my interview is.

Hope this clears things up a bit.

themachine update: Just performed the Biometrics in Houston. 10 minutes in/out - appointment was smooth. Received Ylw (Pre-interview Case File Review) Letter: Bring state ID, passport, & travel documents to interview (interview notice not recieved yet).

  5. You are only required to take what is on the ASC letter. In our case, it is the appointment letter, and photo identification (passport, green card, driver's license)

We arrived 15 minutes prior to interview. They require you to turn your phone off while inside the ASC. We waited 15 minutes, our number was called and the process took 3 minutes. They took a photo and fingerprints and we were out. Now we wait for the continuation of the process...either interview or issuance of the 10-year green card.

  6. Maybe it would have been good intel to know an application was already applied for your fiancee. Regardless, that is the past...it should only get better from here on out!

  7. winnhump,

I went through the same experience. During my wife's interview at the Vietnam Consulate, the officer asked me to come to the interview booth. He told me that I have two choices (a) my wife is issued a CR1 or (b) wait it out 3 more month (to satisfy 2 years of marriage) and then apply for the IR1. Since she was already approved for the CR1, we went with Option A. There was no telling what would happen if we waited...even if it was a day. In my situation, 585 dollars to remove the conditional status is manageable. When we arrived in the US, she was issued a IR1 stamp on her U.S. Visa. A week later, here green card came in the mail with CR1 stamped on it along with a letter stating that in two years we are required to apply to remove the conditional status or risk deportation. Well the two years is up and the USCIS sent us a friendly reminder to file 90 days before the green card expiry date.

We also had an issue on the USCIS mail coming to our address. Her first name is two words. The USCIS would send mail with her first name as one word. I called the hotline number and the operator clearly explained to me the reason.

I would go with calling the USCIS hotline or making an appointment. They may make a claim that signing the entry letter for correctness (when your packet is collected at the airport) waives responsibility for errors by the USCIS. I would definately make an appointment with INFOPASS to see what the options are.

    GOOD LUCK!

  8. I was working in SE Asia and during the interview process at the HCM consulate, the interviewer asked my spouse if I was waiting outside so he could talk to me.

The interviewer proceeded to ask me if I planned on going back to the U.S. in the near future as my spouse's entry visa would expire on a specified date.

The interviewer also asked if my domicile was in the United States, if I owned property/investment in the U.S., and if I currently pay U.S. taxes. All, answers were yes. I asked the interviewer the purpose of these questions and the reply in short was that the interviewer wanted to verify if I met these requirements so that a visa could be issued to my spouse.

and then continued to explain that the purpose of the visa is to begin a life in the U.S. and continue this life with my spouse in the United States.

I asked, what if I lived in Vietnam and never wanted to go back to the U.S. and happily be married to my spouse. The reply was that I need to

    (1) denounce my U.S. citizenship. or (2) continue on my visitor/permanent resident visa and renew when applicable. (3) or wait until my spouse applies and becomes a U.S. citizen and after that go back to Vietnam and live happily.

I would take Option 3, being that currently I am in good status with my U.S. taxes.

  9. I was working in SE Asia and during the interview process at the HCM consulate, the interviewer asked my spouse if I was waiting outside so he could talk to me.

  10. If the application packet calls for The Justice Record Check to be included when you submit, do so. These are the standard rules and procedures. Any deviation from this could result in delay of visa issuance.

If the Justice Record Check isn't "Clean", then you must also send the applicant's Police Criminal Record.

My wife and I know how difficult it can be to get a Justice Record Check.

  11. On 17MAR, my wife and myself headed down to the HCMC, VN consulate office at 8am. At about noon, she walked out with a pink (interview success) paper.

She was a little bit nervous. So the night before, we celebrated our journey along with my family at the Hard Rock Cafe-HCMC.

The supporting evidence was there: itemized phone bills, hotel receipts with both our names, credit card scan of our shared credit card account, family registration book when i visited her, my airline tickets to VN, my wife's airline tickets to visit me in SE Asia with my detail proof of payment, transcripts of transferred money/commodities, photos of me and her, photos with our friends and colleagues, photos of her and my family (when they visited my wife), my company newsletter with our marriage in the Employee Announcements Section.

She did the interview in full English (which is a big plus since she will have to speak good English when she comes over...thanks ROSETTA STONE!)

I did this entire process while living overseas and mailing to the U.S...without email notifications, i don't know what i would do.

Next step is to get her visa, green card/ssn, and get rid of the Conditional on her visa after 2-years in the U.S.!

  12. As part of the packet for "Proof of Bonifide Marriage" in my spouse country are:

    1. Gov't issued and notorized Marriage Certificate from the beneficiary's country.

    2. Affidavit statements from both her and my parents. <--required to get marriage certificate from my wife's province. Not required but good to have i suppose.

    3. Personal credit cards linked to the same account (statements)

    4. She is a recorded beneficiary to my 401k, stock options. <-- a sure PROOF! (if your wife wasn't somehow linked partially to your assets can be a possible red flag.)

    5. Photos from our first date, photos from time together, photos from time with spouse's family, photos from our wedding, photos from after the wedding. In photos after engagement/wedding naturally try to show your hands with the ring. Any photo without the ring after date of marriage can trigger a red flag.

    6. Wedding invoices, Wedding and/or engagement ring reciepts

    7. The baby of course...and if born already, with DNA tests from all your children, yourself, and your spouse to prove the children are both yours.

    8. If the country has household registration books, register yourself under the same residence as your spouse. Of course everytime I leave to work out of country, I have to go to the registration office (and/or police station) to unregister myself until the next time back in country.

During the interview some "deep questions" could be asked: For example, "What is your spouse's favorite food/colour/sport/perfume/car. other questions could be physical appearance. "When did your husband get teeth braces...How did your spouse get that scar...What is the meaning behind your spouse's tattoo (proabaly will ask this question if a photo at the pool/beach and can easily see arm tattoo.
