I made this same mistake. My husband and I got legally married and immediately started my immigration paperwork but we kept this marriage hush-hush until we had our big traditional family wedding a few months later, since we were pretending to still be engaged I didn't change my name before filing, a big mistake because I didn't realize how much work it would be to change it to my married name now that my CR-1 visa has been approved and I am in the USA.
I have a question for anyone who can help. I filed everything in my maiden name, but at my interview the woman asked about my married name, I said I hadn't changed it yet but that I wanted to change to my married name. When I got my package with my passport and the envelope to bring to my POE the envelope/package to bring to the POE had both my married and maiden names on it but the visa printed in my passport has my maiden name.
Is there a way I can find out what name will be on my green card? And is there a way to change my name on my Green Card before it is made? My POE date was June 13 and I still haven't received anything, not even a welcome letter. I am about to go to the social security office tomorrow since thats another thing I haven't beard anything about. Any advice?

MY appointment was 1:30 May 24th in Montreal and I was the first person there, the first people up the elevator and first one interviewed.
-
That just seems ridiculous, and that some of us who had interviews later in May got theirs, it just doesn't make sense!!!
-
Ive got my finger's crossed for everyone still waiting!!! Good luck!!
-
its midnigth and i randomly decided to check forums and well after seeing your post about having a change of status I got this

i am going tommorow omg omg omg FINALLY !!! im so happy im crying

I JUST got an update online: "Applicant Status: At consular section" And a waybill number. Yay!! Anyone else got theirs? maybe because its the first of the month they do large groups of visa's together?
-
They only deal with USC Canada related emergencies anymore. The only way you can try and reach them is by email.
You can email the IV Unit at : montreal-iv-dv@state.gov. I never got anything besides the automated reply but an operator personally replied my fiance's (he's the USC). I would suggest the USC in your relationship writes the email
Be prepared for an elusive answer.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Thanks!!!

And there is no longer any live operator service at the Montreal Consulate, so I guess I can try emailing?
-
I've been trying to call DOS all day repeatedly getting a message saying all operators are busy try again later, I finally got put on hold and after waiting for 18 minutes I finally got an operator who told me to call the consulate and told me to have a good day. I still have no update on dhl or the usvisa-info site, between calls to DOS I also called NVC to see if they could give me any info but they couldn't. Frustrating. Now I'm going to try calling the consulate

How are people able to track progress of your approved visa?? website??? or calling a phone number????
I know it's too early to start checking.....(approved on 5/25) but we probably won't be able to help ourselves come next week....
Did you find out if your passport and visa are on its way to you yet??

The budgies you need to have a vet meet you at the border to look em over, he will give you a paper to hang onto. It was about 20$ when we crossed but that was a land crossing. You will have to have a US Vet and the border should give you the number to one that does the inspections. As for the reptile what kind is it maybe I can find the info you need.
Thanks!! Maybe I'll call the border today and see about the vet. The reptile is a Dispar Mali or a Mali Uromastyx. When I emailed about her I wrote she was a Mali Uro(te common name) but since then I was advised that Dispar's and Mali's are actually the same animal but are in CITES differently.
I did just get a reply back and it doesn't look like good news, but I think I'll try to repeat my email saying she's a dispar.
"Dear Ashley,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the importation of your Mali uromastyx lizard from Canada. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's mission is, working with others, to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
On August 22, 2008, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) issued CITES Notification to the Parties No. 2008/052, which recommended that CITES party countries suspend trade in the species Uromastyx dispar from Mali.
You can view this notification on the CITES website at: http://www.cites.org/eng/notif/2008/E052.pdf
The prohibition on the importation of Uromastyx dispar from Mali remains in effect. The importation of specimens of this species from Mali is prohibited, either by direct shipment or through an intermediary country.
Unfortunately, you cannot import your Mali uromastyx into the United States.
Thank you for your cooperation in complying with our regulations that help protect fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats. Please feel free to respond to this message with any further inquiries that you may have regarding this matter. "

May is looking good for everyone!! Good luck for the last few people with interview's this week!
!

Take a look here for info >>> http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/animals/live_animals.shtml
I've gone over that a couple times, it doesn't really answer my questions, I think I'm going to have to call around. I emailed the usda and they said another division handles the reptiles but they didn't give me any more info.

Has anyone moved with pets other than the standard dogs and cats? I have 4 budie parakeets and a reptile and I'm having a hard time trying to figure out just what I need to do to bring them with me when I move to the usa.
-
Well ours was on the 18th of May and we're also waiting. I'm not going to call DOS until next week. It also felt anti-climactic for us too. She just said congratulations we will send you the visa in the mail as she was walking away. We did not get a letter. What does yours say?
My interview on May 24 was the same, we didn't get a letter either. When my husband and I walked away from the booth (booth 10 not 7 as it was supposed to be) my hubby turned to me and said "thats it? does that mean you're approved?" It was so fast and anti-climatic as well that my husband hadn't realized it was over.

You can check on the CSC website (although I found this slow to update). The better way would be to take your 7-digit reference number on the CSC site and put it in at dhl.ca. They have the most up to date information about your package.
You can also call DOS to see if your visa has been printed. Their number is 202-663-1225, press 1 and then 0.
When I put in my reference number at dhl.ca it comes up as "no record found for this reference number"

Approved for my visa!
-
Has anyone done this yet? The closest DHL location is over 2 hours from my city. When do we get the waybill number, is it after we have our interview??
-
Add me in please!! May 24th in Montreal.
How long did it take everyone from finding out their interview via phone to receiving thier packet 4? I got my interview date a couple days ago but we haven't gotten any emails from nvc about it.
-
I have a question for the others on here that got their interview dates this week when they called; did you all get your packet 4 already? My hubby and I haven't gotten ours yet, and I don't want to book our flights for the interview until I get it, just in case the nvc human gave me the wrong date.
And I haven't seen/noticed any posts by saleem or wade lately
-
I just called and got my interview date for May 24th!!!
-
Interview Date Assigned..
Found out by calling NVC and speaking to an operator.
Congrats!!! I just got off the phone and no interview for me yet, hopefully I'll get my date when I call back tomorrow!
-
Me too!!
I am thinking OK, how long should I wait to call them back and check again.
I think I'm still going to call every night until I get the date anyway! Calling can't hurt anything but maybe your phone bill.
-
Wendy, good to know they started scheduling interviews this week. Our case was approved on April 1st, so hopefully we will also get a date this week. I have been calling them in the evenings, giving enough time for them to work during the day!
Good luck Disha!
I've heard nothing yet either. Our case was 'complete' on the 30th March, and their automated voice system still says 'complete'. I'll be ringing up the NVC on Friday to speak to a human if we've not heard anything by then.
I talked to a really nice woman at NVC on thursday or friday night, and she told me to expect my interview date this week and told me to call back if I don't get the email by friday. btw my case complete was april 1st as well. I don't know about you guys but I can't turn off my computer or even leave it alone for very long and everytime I hear a "bing" of a new email I run straight for it with my heart beating like crazy.

Thanks. I didn't check at POE, where I entered no one had done any immigration cases in a LONG time, they didn't really know what was going on, so I didn't want to ask them anything and have them mess up what they were working on. :S As it was they stamped my passport on my biographical page and not the visa page, this game me trouble the next time I crossed the border.
