Hello VJ,
My father who is a green holder is currently living in U.S with me. He will be going back to India. I know he has to come back within 1 year. I want to see if there is an option to extend his stay over year or more. He basically wants to maintain his legal green card holder status and come back and visit.

Thanks for answering my question.

I am bringing my father who was lived here in US for 9 years and went to India with green card valid but expired in 4 month. Long story short I had to do 1-130 and after long ordeal process now his appointment is next week at Mumbai Embassy.
My questions: What happens to his social security number all the amount he accumulated. Will he get new SS along with his new green card? He still has US valid driver’s license.
Does my father new Social Security card?

I only had 2009 and 2010 w2 and barely making the cut of line. But my current income is well above poverty line. I did not include any new pay stub from my current job just employments letter from manager/hr and also included initial offer letter showing what I will be making yearly.
I think previous income matters but not has much as you current income. i thought i-864p is just to show what you are currently making? can anyone confirm this.

This question is for fellow BMB ( bring family member from India) my fathers interview date on 19th. The medical is done and he has all the necessary report and required documents.
What kind of process or question they will be asking. Will they give visa same day or next? I guess I am looking for Do's and Don't so I can prep him.

An immigrant visa interview has been scheduled for the applicant at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate in
MUMBAI (BOMBAY) on September 19, 2011 at 07:30 am.

NVS login failed. Hoping this is a good sign!

You wont get anything from NVC, as they send everything by email - so you are good with that. Petitioner and Co-sponsors have an obligation to inform the change in address after filing I-864 affidavit of support. Hence just do the online address change and you should be good.
Regarding Mumbai interview, this thread helps http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/319636-mumbai-bombay-consulate-unscheduled-interview-date-join-here/
Thank you! I will check out that thread.

Notify USCIS via the AR-11 form. THE USPS WILL NOT FORWARD ANYTHING FROM THE USCIS. So your address with the USCIS MUST be correct and current.
Dave
thanks. The file is now under NVC folks and they are handling everything do I need to email or call and change the address. I am hoping I will hear something from NVC in regarding to interview.

Ius citizen bring a father ir5. I have mailed everything on 7/14/2011. Waiting on interview days its going to be in Mumbai (BMB).
my question is I am going to move next week to new condo and do I need to notify USCIS or NVC that I am moving and update new address OR just let local United Postel to forward my mail to new address. In time of interview if they ask my dad where are you live in US or whats your sons address, should he provide new or old address.

I just mailed my fathers DS-230 on 07/14. I had to emailed my father the missing checklist and he took that to the local Gujarat (Ahmadabad office) he was able to get his "Police Verification Certification" and "Police Clearance Certificate". I did put original copy in my mailed packet with affidavit of support packet.
I knew that we needed to submit two document however police station and other legal office in India are crazy. They were asking for some kind of immigration processing proof. This delayed my processing time I did not want to take the risk and wait last minute and let my father bring missing documents of the interview day.

You've mentioned your W2's several times. What you need are either copies of your tax returns (including W2's) or transcripts from the IRS for your tax returns. W2's by themselves are not useful.
An affidavit of support is considered to be "sufficient" if the sponsor has enough current income and/or assets to meet the minimum requirements. A sponsor's income and/or assets must be sufficient both at the time the affidavit is submitted, and at the time the immigrant benefit is approved. If you currently have no income then you cannot submit a sufficient affidavit of support. You need to prove you either have sufficient assets to qualify, or you need a joint sponsor. If you've got another job lined up then wait until you begin work and can submit some evidence of current income.
I have the 1040 my individuality tax return for 2008 2009 2010.
I had a steady job and due to nature of current environment company started to cut back. I have few job lined up but are not 100% as of right now.
A bit off topic, but how old is your dad? I ask because if he is elderly/ unlikely to work for long, they may require you to show proof of health insurance for him before they issue the visa, so that he doesn't become a burden on the state.
He is currently 55. He is able to work. We are thinking of buying a store when is comes to US. I can work and he can run the store and I can also work there weekends.
My father lived in US for few years back in 2000-2007 but went back and lost his green card because of timing, he had valid SS card.

I think if you don't currently have a job you need to let them know in a letter and state the reason why. It might be seen as fraud if you hide this fact, or if they ask for a employment verification letter from your current employer and you're not able to give one. Let them know you are currently looking for a job. Employment verification letter is different from a job offer letter. Verification letter is like how the above person stated (you have worked here for __years with a yearly salary of xxxxx etc). Job offer letter just states you were offered a job but doesn't give evidence of actually working there.
I will do that. Since my reported income on my w2s is above poverty line and if I let them know I am between jobs is that OK? I called the NVC and they said its up to embassy in Mumbai. I don't want to play any risk.
-
Do you mean a letter of employment rather than a job offer letter? Ie something like "Mr Vishal has been working here since X date with a job title of Y and a salary of Z. He is a diligent full time, permanent employee and we expect him to stay with us at that salary for the foreseeable future."? That sort of letter can be helpful if you are new to a job. If not, then your paystubs and tax filings are enough.
Thanks
-
Then you do not need an offer letter for a future job, they won;t know you intend to change jobs.
I think my question was no clear.
My job offer letter is for the one I use to work at. I am in process of getting another job. However I have necessary w2s and income. I am just afraid if I should put the job offer letter since it will show on my last 3 years of w2s.

***** Moving from CR-1 to Bringing Family Members... forum as OP is sponsoring father *****
Are you currently above the poverty line or only once you start the job? if only once you start the job, I would delay the interview until you have a couple of paychecks to show them.
I am well above the poverty line and I have my W2s that shows the filed income.
-
I am in process of filling my affidavit of support (i-864ez) for my father in India. My question I am above poverty line and have all necessary w2s.
Can I put my offer letter I got from my employer as proof of employment. It shows my salary and tile.

Talk with a supervisor explaining the situation.
Thanks. Told me to write letter explaining that I was never married and send with DS-230.

Hello everyone!
I just got an email with missing items checklist. My question is I know how to obtain the police certification (india). however it is asking for Petitioner (mine) marriage certificate. I am not married. In DS230 my father(IR5) put as married and we provided his marriage certificate. Why are they asking my marriage certificate not even married.
PASSPORT POLICE CERTIFICATE
and
PETITIONER MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE:
Please submit all of the Petitioner's official marriage certificate(s), for present and previous marriages,
issued by the appropriate government authority. The marriage certificate(s) must be an original, or a
certified copy of the original, bearing the appropriate seal or stamp of the issuing authority.
All documents not in English or the official language of the country in which the visa will be applied for
must be accompanied by a certified translation. Your translation must include a statement signed by the
translator that states the following:
*Translation is accurate, and
*Translator is competent to translate.

Hi Vishal,
There are 2 ways to tackle this :-
1) Tell you dad to apply for Police Certificate from passport office and than once he has it, you can sent it in with all your documents.
2) When mailing your documents to NVC, include a brief explanation that you ahve already applied for PCC from Passport office and it will take some time, so you will present it directly at the interview. Most of the time this trick works.
Coming to the point , about what you need :-
1) Do you need both certificates ? TO be on the safe side , yes , you do.
But according to the travel website you only need one PCC from regional Passport office. This has recently changed. Mostly you will only need this.
Hope this helps.
babaa Thanks for the input. I will do that, in cover letter I will note that and inform my dad what he needs to do. This is great anyone wants to share other experience suggestions please feel free.

I saw it, but I'm not familiar with the process for Indian police/passport certificates. Sorry
No worries! You already helped a ton.
-
You just need to include pictures of the beneficiary. The only time pictures were needed of the petitioner was with the I-130. No more pictures of you are needed
Thanks Saylin. I actually posted another question on main thread. I should really posted here.
