As you appear to be linving in a rather large city, try another SSA office. Use the I-94, passport and take her birthcertificate just in case. DO NOT mention the marriage and get the SSN in her maiden name first. Then you can go back and change it with the marriage certificate (notice I did not say copy or certified copy as the SSA wants to see the official document and they will make a copy). The most important thing is the number as that allows your spouse to get all kinds of benefits and the name is not that important. Think about how many people you have shown YOUR SSC to over the years. I bet it is not many. The number is what is important and then she can change her name and have the "NOT AUTHORIZED TO WORK WITHOUT DHS AUTHORIZATION" removed when she gets her GC.
Good luck,
Dave
We went to a smaller office in Rome, GA. And we filed for the SSC with her maiden name, knowing we will change the name later, without any success. Perhaps this next time we'll go to a different office, and hopefully the clerk will be more helpful with getting the card.

Hello VJers! My spouse and I had a problem when we visited the social security office: Her name wasn't able to be pulled up in their system. I figure it may have been a data entry issue, so her name is incorrectly spelled. I asked the clerk to try different spelling with her name or moving the surname into the last name, but the clerk said the i-94 should be the name exactly as in their system.
I was told by the clerk that we'll have to go somewhere else to change her name, so that we can try to get her SSN after that. She mentioned a department that slips my memory.
Was she correct when she told me we'll have to go elsewhere with a name correction?

My fiancee's interview went well today. Approved!
-
Hey that's great. Not too bad of a wait. We're hoping to get an interview around the same time. Just waiting for Packet 4 to show up.
We didn't wait for the packet to arrive. You should email the embassy with your RDJ number (from NVC) and ask if they have received your petition.
-
My fiancee informed me that the embassy emailed her and it said her interview date is the 29th of March!
-
I called the National Visa Center this morning, and they told me my petition was forwarded last Friday. It's such a relief to have everything move so quickly now!
-
Add me to the list of those who were approved today! Good things come to those who wait!

Have any of you who've recently received NOA2's been able to see an update to your case statuses online?
-
Since when have we so willingly given up our rights. You are a US citizen returning to your country. The only things you have to do is permit them to verify your customs form vs. what you have and show proof of citizenship. I really wish the US government would read the Constitution. Land of the oppressed and home of the timid.
You can do this, but be expected to be held for a LONG time.

We have an August 5th filer who has their NOA2. Good for them!

SOMETHING!!!!
"On November 10, 2010, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E)."
OMG, I thought this would never happen. WEEHEE. I'm so happy, I'm crying! Soon, I get to be with my baby.
Congratulations!

I'm looking forward to going back to see my love but have been pretty stressed lately about this whole process... I just dont understand what kind of timing they are using?!?! My NOA1 date is Aug 3rd but STILL not NOA2??? There are so many people who have filled AFTER me and got theirs.. Is it not first come first serve???
According to Igor's list, only one petition after the 3rd of August has been approved.
-
Another Case was approved.....the couple received their NOA1 on July 21 and NOA2 on Oct 21st.....looks like VSC is speeding up !!!
Yep. I'm surprised they didn't post in here announcing their exciting news!
-
Thanks, I appreciate your response. Sometimes you just need a good cry, ya know? It's cathartic.
The stupid thing about this though is that even if his visa was approved tomorrow, he couldn't move here until March 20th because thats exactly 90 days before the day we're planning the wedding. Long distance is just so damn hard!!
Why don't you have a quiet wedding in a courthouse if your visa is ready before the 20th of March?
-
Even if it was just an automated thing, at least you guys got SOMETHING. Those of us over at the CSC are looking at a 95 month NOA2 wait...
8 years is a long time!
-
I'm telling you... They just switched all of their adjudicators back to I-129fs because they are so backlogged and all of our petitions got put onto someone's desk which is why we all got touched, and now they will bang them out within a month or so.... Anyone want to be an optimist with me?
This. Probably this.
-
Did you file USC or VSC? I've been watching the VSC timelines, and it appears that the month of June applications are starting to go through. Give it some more time.
-
Every day I check my timeline, the date it says my petition will probably be adjudicated is usually a week later than before. So much for hoping we'd be married by the holidays.
-
It has been over 30 days since my petition was last touched. I think that I have only seen 2 NOA2's for July filers anywhere. Is there something wrong with July? Are we some kind of pariah? Don't worry, I'm not all that whacked out; I only wish that there was some kind of movement.
I really wish I had filed in May/June. Oh well. I'll be happy if I get my fiancee here by December.
-
As long as he doesn't leave the US, he's fine.
Will the fiance(e) be able to travel to the U.S. territory islands like Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Samoa, Guam?
-
Oh, I'm such a bonehead. I wrote my check to USCIS too. I guess I'll wait for the returned packet to write a check to the department of Homeland Security. Thanks.

Have her computer boot windows xp through a USB flash drive?
-
I mailed our i-129f petition to Vermont CSC on the 14th. No response and my check hasn't been cleared/cashed yet. So frustrating.
-
Just now received notice of issuance of my NOA2 in 22 days!!! Amazing!
That's great! I'm still waiting for my check to be cashed. They received my petition on the 16th.
3 weeks after POE, can't get SSN

I was hoping it wasn't this. Makes sense though. Thanks!
