  1. which meetup.com group did you attend, to find that job?

Fortunately, or otherwise, I applied for this job on Yum Brands website! Through meetup.com groups, all I could manage was some networking - where mostly everyone sat down to sulk over the bad economy and an even worse job market.

But my perseverance with job hunt paid off, with an interview call with Yum!

  2. I would like to confirm one thing here - when I checked my status for I-485 online the same evening as my interview, it said : Card Production Ordered. And when I checked for I-130, it said 'initial review'. What's noteworthy here is that these two applications had not been available online until the day of interview, for me!

Does it mean that my green card is in the mail?

  3.  APPROVED!

With all the build-up to the interview being anti-climatic, the interview itself was a breeze .... probably the most sweet-spoken I/O they have anywhere in the US! She was an Asian lady... and took no more than 10 mins of ours! She said I am approved, and that the green card would be on its way, reaching me in 10 days or so!

Thank you Visa Journey, for serving as an amazing platform for immigrants. Thank you, all the members who have helped us through the process - and we could make do without an attorney! And, thank you, all the well-wishers!

May God be with everyone going through the process , and we both wish you all the best of luck!

  4. I think that these timelines are either NOT applicable to us or NOT accurate. If they are applicable, they certainly are not accurate for cities other than NYC. Here is why:

    1) AmyKathleen2005 applied from Cleveland, USCIS website shows 4 Months processing time (Took amykathleen a little over 2 months)

    2) Bruin85 applied from Los Angeles, USCIS website shows 4 Months Processing time (same, took Bruin85 less than 3 months.

I had applied concurrently from Chicago office on August 6th - and took me less than 3 months too. On the website, it says over 4 months I think. You just hope it's a delay in error, and it would be sorted out soon. You never know - you could get the letter this monday :) We all shall pray for you!

  5. Ok so finally received my Biometrics letter and I wanted to try and do a walk in if possible tomorrow due to today being Columbus day in the US but wanted to ask others who successfully did a walk in what they said in order to be able to have it done before the set time?? Any suggestions as I am a little worried about what I should say?

Nothing - just try a walk-in... if they are not busy at the moment, you would be lucky, of course depending upon your ASC. Try Wednesday, as you have a brighter chance. Best of luck.

  6. Do you need to notify USCIS or the original ASC that you walked in somewhere else? I read in their letter that if you don't show up they consider your application abandoned.

As long as the walk-in at a different ASC is before the scheduled appointment, there would be no problem. You don't need to notify USCIS unless you are going to 'miss' the appointment, without already having your biometrics done.

  7. Thank you!

I believe that it went so fast because I gave them the job offer I received. Hadn't I had any, then maybe things would have been different.

Anyway the EAD has not been approved yet, I "only" got a biometrics appointment in 2 weeks. I'll try an early walk-in once I receive the letter, and see if this will expedite things even more.

Do you guys know if EAD is sufficient to obtain a driver's license here in CA? I'm sick and tired of being home and not being able to drive.

You would have to take your EAD and passport to Social security office and get an SSN - they should be able to give you the number in two days, and the card would arrive in the mail in a week. SSN is required for driver's license in California. :)

  8. Entering the US with a tourist visa and the intent to adjust status is immigration fraud which carries a lifetime ban.

Can you proof that your parents intended to return to India when they arrived in the US? If not, I STRONGLY suggest not to try pulling this off.

    I definitely can! :)

Strangely enough, I was searching for similar threads on VJ, and I found your similar-sounding posts in each of those threads - mostly discouraging people from filing for such AOS. Although I agree with you that if one enters the United States on the B2 visa, he/she shows the intent of NOT immigrating and going back, but, in the same breath, I would like to add that since there is a provision of Adjusting status from a non-immigrant visa, it isn't as threatening as you make it sound to be.

I appreciate your concern, and do not take away anything from your noble intentions - but I think I would stick to my stand and say my parents are not intending to do a immigration fraud. Especially considering my father is 81, he would have better things to do at this age rather than die to be in the US!

    Thanks anyways.

  9. Dear All!

My sister, who is a US citizen, wants to file AOS and I-130 concurrently for my parents, who are in the US on a B2 visitor visa. From what I know, she would require to file the following :

    (1) I-130 for both my parents

    (2) I-485 (with my parents as petitioners)

    (3) I-131 for advance parole

    (40 I-864 Affidavit of Support

    (5) I-693 Medical examination record

    Now, my queries are :

Would it be required to file for both my parents separately, or in one envelope, or on common forms, if any?

Can my sister's husband be a co-sponsor in I-864? If yes, would he have to fill up I-864 (A)? He is the bread-earner for her family.

Since my father is 81 years old, which are the vaccinations (or records) that would be required for him?

Does this form of AOS (for parents) usually require an interview? She would be filing in California.

My father was married once, before. So, do I understand correctly that her death certificate would be required for the filing? Also, my parent's marriage certificate would be required too. Is that correct?

Which other documents are required at the time of filing? How does my sister prove her relationship to her parents? I understand, all of their passport copies and I-94 copies, with photographs, would be required. Would the total filing fee be $1010 (x2) ?

Thank you very much for reading through this. I would wait for the valuable replies.

  10. Great. Let me know when you get stuck.

    FWIW ---------

    I've studied yer prior posts.............

    Apparently -

    yer husband (USCitizen Spouse)

shares this member ID/login with you.

    sooooooooooooo

whilst yer paying attention to ME and the stuff I post in replies to YOU -

    understand

    please

    that yer husband,

    alas

    Doesn't Know What I know

    and

    you should review

    yer 'replies to yer posts'

    often

    via

    yer profile in that

    'View my content' link.

    Seriously.

This is Friday, we've been talking for 5 days, a workweek,

    and

I've no real report back from you,

for any real results that YOU'VE FOUND

    from

    meetup.com

Imagine my dismay, after all I've written here?

Do I see a lot of confusion here, or do I see a lot of confusions?! I am the 'husband' and I am the Non USC spouse - my wife is the USC petitioning for my immigration. Interesting as it may sound, I would like you to please direct me to ONE post where you feel my wife has used my ID. No, seriously - she has never come to Visajourney.com - not that I know of. Using my ID seems so out of question, even keeping in mind the possibility of me leaving my ID logged on and she replying to it. Wow - this is really confusing. :-)

Secondly - about you not hearing back from 'me, the immigrant husband' over the job hunt - here I go : I would be a part of the motorpress guild luncheon on 12th of October, where I see a lot of guest speakers being my prospect recruiters! I have been in the automotive field for 90% of my professional career, and I would love to continue with that. Through meetup.com, I was able to find a Non-profit agency called Experience Unlimited and also caljobs.com. I have contacted them, and they have assured me of job-matching prospects next week. Let's see where it takes me. I have been sent to the second stage of interview with groupon.com , as a freelance writer too. Things are looking up at the moment.

Finally - I would definitely look forward to being rewarded with some more fruitful advice from you .... and thanks a lot for helping me hitherto. :)

  11. Except her interview is in February 2011, and the wife is planning to travel to India in December 2010...won't she need AP?

As I mentioned in my reply, he has posted the interview date as DD/MM/YYYY, which implies her interview in in November 2010. I was confused myself, by the first look of the OP's query! :D

They seem to be stopping giving the I-551 stamp at the interview. More and more people are saying that they were told they will receive a response in the mail and aren't told whether they're approved or not. Some are told they're approved but told the I-551 stamp isn't given out anymore.

If the OP IS approved then the best chance of getting the stamp would be to take the travel itinerary to show a flight is booked.

Oh, whack! I was counting on them giving the I-551 stamp myself, with my interview coming up on the 4th of November! Well, I guess if they take my I-94 and EAD back, it would imply I am approved. Guess I am thinking a bit too far... :)

  12. Hi mathranik. :) Did you see any touches on your AOS cases before you got your interview letter? you can see from my signature that i filed almost 2 weeks before you, and until now i don't have an interview letter yet.

I'd like to ask what's your local USCIS office?

    Thanks.

Strange as it may sound, my AOS and I-130 cases are not online on uscis.gov yet, and hence I have no clue about the touches they went through! But by keeping stats, I had expected my interview letter to come in 45-50 days from filing.

My local USCIS office is Chicago. You should hope to receive your letter in the coming week or so, if you haven't had any RFEs yet. Good luck.

  13. Slightly OT (or drastically, maybe), but since me and my wife are to appear for our AOS interview in a month's time, I had a question myself regarding joint banking:

I am visiting my brother in LA and she is in Chicago. I would like to open a joint bank account with my wife as soon as possible, rather than wait till I go back to Chicago. Can it be done while we are in two different states?

Secondly, she has requested a secondary credit card in my name to her primary card - does that count as intermingling of financial resources too? I hope it does!

Thirdly, we already sent the affidavits from her brother and parents with the petition. Do I take more affidavits? (Like from my brother, parents, friends, etc?)

And lastly, if the wedding was a very very private affair, in a courtroom, with only 2 pictures (of me and her together, only), what to do when they ask for wedding pictures? Me and my wife have been seeing each other for over 8 years now, and have vacationed all over the world (and have over 5000 pictures together). We finally tied the knot 3 months back. Any advices on the pictures front?
