I guess opening an email from USCIS on Christmas Eve telling me that my card is in production is as good a Christmas present as I could have wished for, and it happened

I don't believe your case no would be the same as receipt# on NOA1. PeterandRobin also didn't get the Bio letter still he get his case # from them.
Tier 1 employees go by the book. If you talk to 3 different Tier1 people, each will give you 3 different answers. So you cant really rely on them. Try calling them on Tuesday and demand to talk to tier 2 people. If you are lucky you might get a hold of them. good Luck.
Neela is correct, the Tier 1 would only give me the case number that was on the NOA and said it would be trackable "soon", the Tier 2 gave me a different number and that is the one that is on the online status check, it would have been on your biometrics letter and is different to the NOA1.
I also got the same letter (via email) telling me that my Biometrics were current which was in response to the service request the Tier 1 put in for me before transferring me to the Tier 2.

4-5 times of usual BG check thats all. Nothing sort of biometric screening.

It is definitely worth calling, before you get to talk the the Tier 2 person ask if you can put in a service request, that will request that they look into why you have not heard anything.
I spoke to a Tier 2 and thought she was telling me that they had received my Biometrics and that they were still valid (it was a bad line so I had difficulty hearing her), I received an email from USCIS this morning as a result of the service request and it sates that my Biometrics are still valid and have been accepted, so I do not need to go to have them done.

Still waiting for my biometrics letter... :-(
Same here and we sent out packets the same day as you, however, I called USCIS yesterday and spoke to a Tier 2, she told me that they have not scheduled a date for my Biometrics yet which is why no letter. But, it then got interesting/confusing, she told me that they had requested and received my Biometrics on April 30th, I am assuming this was the Biometrics from my original green card application, I think she then said that they sometimes accept those but I was on a very bad line.
She did however give me the updated Case Number that would have been on the Biometrics letter and that does allow me to view the online progress which is under initial review as expected.
Prior to speaking to her I put in a service request (as it is over 30 days) so that may help clarify things.

Hmm. It seems you are waiting so long for your Bio letter. Did you try calling USCIS Tier 2 department about your case?
Not going to call yet, there seem to be a group of us who sent packets in at the same time who have not had a Bio letter yet, and to be honest with my schedule at work at the moment a later Bio date would be better

I mailed it out a week ago and my check has not been cashed yet. I am getting nervous. Mailed 4/8/2014, Vermont service center.
We are in the same boat, sent ours on 4/9/14, VT received package on 4/10, Check not cashed yet or NOA1 received.

Don't know if this will help but here are a couple of the problems I found and what I did to resolve them.
My resume (CV!!) was very English and was not catching peoples eye, I had to make it a lot more aggressive and sell myself much more.
Qualifications, translating my qualifications from UK to USA was not easy, I chose the closest match and explained at interview any discrepancies.
Work, I am also in computers but to start with I took a job in car sales (was pretty good at it as well), the hours were brutal but it brought money in and it kept me busy, thats what I found the hardest, when you apply and don't hear anything it tends to wear you down after a while so getting any type of job is beneficial. Also, if he is interested in doing it, car dealers are always hiring sales people, they generally give training and customers love, love, love an accent. After about 6 months or so the perfect job appeared and I was lucky enough to get it, not as good money as I was used to but stable and with benefits.

I have to disagree with you on that statement. I would like to see where it happens frequently to Canadians.
The problem with that is that the CBP have no idea when you left the US as a Canadian with no I-94, no stamp, no checking in with them before you leave.
All they have on the majority of Canadian visitors is an entry date....they have no idea if/when you last left and no way to prove previous overstay unless you were at some point caught and put in removal proceedings where overstay was determined by an immigration judge.
That is why Grrrreat is right in that aspect - Canadian visitors being an "non-controlled" group.
Surely if you arrived in 2010 and are in the US in 2012 without another entry date then it is not hard to deduce that you have either overstayed or entered since 2010 without inspection. When you leave may not be documented but each entry is.
Anyway, that is all irrelevant as due to the AOS application the OP is now in a period of lawful presence whilst the application is reviewed and adjudicated on.

OK, red flags and drama aside, this will hopefully give you some pointers..
In terms of the medical exam, you have to find a civil surgeon (I think you can find a list on the uscis website, or just google for a list in your area), they will know what needs to be done, just print out the form and complete with your details, they will do the rest. However, a couple of things to bear in mind..
There is no set fee for this exam so make sure you shop around, I was given a wide range of prices which varied by hundreds of dollars, for exactly the same tests.
You will have a TB test, this will likely be positive due to the vaccinations you had at school in the UK. This may require you to have a chest X-Ray to check for scarring (probably additional cost), but again this will vary as the test result for the first test is very subjective, for my AOS mine was deemed negative, when I had the same test done a couple of years later for my work I thought the reaction was less but they deemed it positive and I had to have the X-Ray, apparently the guideline have changed or at least that is what I was told.
You will need your divorce documents and it needs to be the original, also birth certificates of any kids in the UK, it would be a good idea to keep the shipping label if you are worried about them thinking you came in with them.
Then it is paperwork, waiting, possibly more paperwork, more waiting, frustration, more waiting, a bit of excitement when you get your biometrics appointment, more waiting, more waiting, more excitement and total panic when you get your interview date, then either sheer relief or more waiting.........

Status update, on April 27 we ordered for production of your card AOS I 485. Please allow 30 days to receive card in mail.
Excellent news, congratulations... An update on our case is that my wife has finally run out of patience and has contacted our congressman to start the process of getting his help with finding out what is going on.

We have had a very similar experience, although ours has been for a lot longer than yours.
We had our interview in August last year, the IO said pretty much the same but he kept telling us that we should be recieving the GC in 5-6 weeks "if all is OK", he was also running behind that day and was feeling under the weather.
6 weeks to the day we got an RFE for proof of continuing relationship, we sent more joint bills, affidavits from friends and family.
Still no response so we called uscis in Jan and spoke to a 2nd tier person, they submitted a service request which he said meant that we would either recieve a decision within 2 weeks or an explanation about when we would recieve a decision. 3 weeks later we got a letter stating that our case required further processing and that if we didn't hear anything within 6 months then we are to phone again....
Oh, and no updates at all on uscis internet site since Sept, not even to say we had or that they recieved the RFE.

Well, we did hear something from uscis today after our interview on 8/20, unfortunately it was an RFE in the mail.
They are asking for proof of relationship in the form of documentary evidence of cohabitation, at the interview we gave the IO copies of our joint lease, medical insurance, car insurance, letter from the bank, utility bills in joint names and a letter from the music director at the church where we play bells. What else can we supply them??
Also, they are asking for an IRS tax transcript since the time we were married, how can we provide this as we have only been married since April and there have been no tax returns since then?
Confused and a little worried here!!!

I was checking the current processing times on the uscis site and they say that Fairfax (where we had our interview in August) are currently approving I485's submitted in Jan 2010, does this mean we will have to wait 5 months or so for our decision or GC while they catch up to the June filers?

We went for our interview on 8/20 to adjust status in the Fairfax VA uscis office, all seemed to go well with the interview but we did not get a "Congratulations, you have been approved" statement from the IO, he did however keep telling us that I should receive the GC in 5-6 weeks (assuming all was ok), he was not feeling good on the day we were interviewed and apologized for being behind on time, since then there have been a couple of touches on both the I130 and I485 but no change in status.
I have seen on the uscis site that Fairfax is reporting that the last I485 they approved was early January when you look at the field office processing times, most report 5 months as they are within the target timescale for approval.
To me it looks like we will be waiting until they catch up to June 2010 cases filed which is about 5 months away using their current timeline, does anyone have any experience with this?

Only date i see is it says On June 22, 2010, we received this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN...I hope you guys not talkin abt this date...plz do reply on this thread Thanks in advance.
YOu need to set up an account and add the cases to your portfolio, then you will get a list with a last updated column, that is where you see touches as you get an update with no change in status.
