Unfortunately my MIL couldn't get her medical done. She has her interview scheduled this Monday the 29th. Can she still go or should we reschedule? We tried to reschedule but consulate is not responding.
Thanks everyone

Hi Nina80! How did it go? Did the name change cause a delay in the oath taking schedule? Also, where did you take the oath? My interview in Chicago is coming up and I'm wondering the same thing. Thanks!
No at all! I have my interview on sep 30 and my oath was on October 22. I think it took only one week extra comparing to other Chicago applicants. It was in the federal cout I believe 219 s Dearborn . The whole precess took exactly 3 months and 10 days. I got my passport yesterday. I field on October 23 normal processing. Good luck !

Received the name change certificate today, 15 days after the oath ceremony.
FYI, Since the oath ceremony was not at the court house( but performed by a judge), USCIS sends the name change petition to the court house. The court house then records the name change, signs it and sends it back to USCIS. USCIS then mails the copy to us. Hence the delay.
You can always request a certified copy from the court house. It's is $11 here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Happy for you! Monday is a new day to start updating everything. You can start by DMV.
Good luck!

Agree with Darnell. Even if his visa still valid, you should file all the ASO applications.

You can only adjusted your status through. Marriage to a u.s citizen. There is no point for your mother to file for you. It will be only a waist of time and money.

Hi all!
Yes I am a citizen of the United States of America Yayyhhhhhhhhhu!!! Well,I had my oath yesterday in the federal court in 25th floor room 2525 . It' was so quick . They started checking in at 12:00 by taking our oath letters and green cards and they were done by 12:25. There were 90 applicants form 32 countries. The judge came in at 1:00 pm. He made us say the oath and the pledge. Than , he gave a quick speech about the diversity of American society. It took him less than 10 min to do all this . He was out by 1:10. After that they handed us the certificates and We left . Out side the court room were couple of ladies carrying the voting registration applications . After that I decide to go to the dmv to update my name on my DL . I walked there . It's only 3 blocks away from the federal building. I am so happy that finally I am done with immigration. The whole process took 3 months and 10 days.
Today I applied for my U.S passport at my local post offices. I hope I will be lucky like Jay2pony who received his passport in 8 days. I didn't want to pay the $60 extra. I think $110+ $25 processing fees and already to much lol:))
Good luck to everyone! Wish you all the best of luck . Visajoury is great place and a big money saving.
Thanks visajourney!!!

I was recently naturalized and I changed my name. My naturalization certificate shows my new name and I was told at the ceremony that the court order letter stating my name change from old to current would arrive in the mail.
Is this correct? Did anyone here go through this process?
Thanks!
Hi ,
I had my oath today and I did a name change as well. So I get 2 certificate one for citizenship and the other for the name change. I hope you will receive yours soon. If you don't you can always go to the court clerk and request a copy. I believe it cost around $10 .
Best of luck

I have searched high and low and simply cannot find the definitive 100% correct answers to these questions regarding DS-11 (application for U.S. passport):
#6 Email Address:
It's a newborn child, he doesn't have an e-mail address. Should I put mine? My wife's? There is a vague reference at the bottom of the 2nd page of instructions that implies that this field is OPTIONAL. But I can find no other such implications or statements that indicate which fields are required/optional.
#7 Primary Contact Phone Number:
It's a newborn child, he doesn't have a phone number. The phone number to get in contact with his mother is a Japanese phone number, yet there is no where on the form to indicate the country of the phone number. Should I put my U.S. phone number, even though I'm physically separated from the child?
#8: Mailing Address:
It's a newborn child. Do I put my address in the U.S., or do I put the address where the child is living (with his mother in Japan)? In the event of putting the mailing address of the child in Japan, there simply are not enough squares on the sheet to accommodate for a Japanese "state" (prefecture) and Japanese zip-code. What do I do? Scrunch the values in as best as possible? Provide the information on a separate sheet? I simply cannot find any official documentation on this whatsoever.
#17 Permanent Address:
He is living with his mother in Japan. The form does not have a field in this question to enter a country, and it appears to only be in the form of U.S. address. He is living in Japan for the foreseeable future, and does not have a permanent U.S. address.
#18 Emergency Contact:
Once again, he's living with his mother in Japan, yet there is no field to indicate a country or the address or the phone number.
If you DO know where I can find the exact answers to the above questions in cold hard official print, please point them out to me and I'll eat my words. Otherwise, I'm looking for suggestions as to which values I should use, what I should leave blank, etc. based on your experiences with this.
Why you are complicating things. If you and his mother are married just put your information or his mother information.
Hope somebody will give you a 100% answer .

warlord and nina80-
Canceling the trip costs money and time off can be done only certain times of the year. I have read several instances where people have informed the interviewing officer of their travel plans and successfully requested and received a new date within a reasonable time. No great hurry to get citizenship (in retrospect we should have after our trip, but who knew they were processing things so fast at San Jose). Yes, I have read the horror stories where it has taken upto a year to get to the oath rescheduled. Besides, given that you can get a passport in a day, and a visa in two weeks (if you are local)...we like to keep that option open too.
Btw, you two are the only two folks here and other forums that are recommending canceling. Most say you should take the oath if you possibly can, but if not request taking it later.
KP
I said to cancel the trip because rescheduling the interview or the oath will put your wife back on line. We were in the same boat on August 2010. My husband had to go back home to see his sick father after buying the ticket the next day the interview letter was in the mail. Most advices we had was to cancel the trip. Which my husband did.
When I had my interview I asked the officer about When I should expect my oath letter Because I was planning to go on vacation the following month. He told me that I can reschedule my oath up to 2 times. I just have to let them know. So yeah when she has her interview she can discuss this matter with the officer and show him the ticket. I am sure they will help her out .
Good luck

I was just wondering what does the word "salamat" mean in your language? In Arabic, Salamat usually means We wish you best of safety, or we hope you get to your destination safe. I know my question is out of immigration discussion lol.
Hhhh I have the same wonder? Would love to know the meaning:)
-
It's very simple cancel the trip till she has her citizenship. agree with the other post in most countries you can use your old passport to enter them and you don't have to disclose your dual citizenship but as you said it not the case for India. So make your decision and see which one is more important the trip or the citizenship.

I will be having my oath on October 22th. Please update my timeline.
Thank you

i think there might have been some confusion. what i am trying to say is that let say she becomes a citizen, but keeps her old name and also keep her old name on the baby's birth certificate; is it hard to get a name change later on and have the marriage certificate and baby's birth certificate to reflect her new name? so basically, she doesn't want to check the box on the form where it said if you want a name change. can she change to a more americanize name later on?
Of course she can do it later. And she can name her self any name she wants. The only difference is that is she made the change through the crizenship it will be easy and free. You should check you courthouse website about the name change process.

Great! I guessed it right! =)
You are most likely scheduled for an oath 9-14 days from when you were scheduled, so be prepared.
I have not updated SSA yet, I will do it at a later time, just gotta do a lot of things this week and the next couple of weeks since I finally sold my house and moving things around. You should update SSA 10 days after naturalization.
Finally received my US passport today, 8 days total from the day I applied at the local post office. Yay!
congrats;)
only 8 day...that was fast. did you apply for an expedite passport?
-
if all what she wants is getting your last name is an easy do. she can just walk in into the SS office or dmv with the marriage certificate and they will issue her new ID / SS card with her married last name. when its comes to citizenship she has to complete the name change section in the N-400 . for the hospital she can just show them the marriage certificate and they will update her last name. when its came to the baby's birth certificate its up to her to use your last name or middle+your last name as her last name. she doesn't have to go to court all what she needs is her marriage certificate.

Hello everyone! I had my naturalization interview today (Chicago). The interview results said - You passed the test of English and U. S history and goverment and USCIS will send you a written decision about your application. I'm worried because my friend told me that when she had her interview the IO's checked box A - that say's Congratulations! Your application has been recommended for approval. Mine has no check. Is this something that I need to worry about? Please help me guys.......
If you didn't change you name you may receive an update tomorrow or early next week . Chicago are so quick when it comes to oath scheduling . I believe they have 2 ceremonies a week . please come pack and update us.
-
Don't worry uscis is not affected by the government shutdown. You interviews will be on time . You can bring you marriage certificate but I don't think that the officer will be interested in discussing your marriage especially if you didn't get your green card though marriage to a U.S citizen .Hi guys my interview will be on the end of this month! is the government shutdown will affect the process of the interview.
Also I fille out the paperwork N400 as married stauts and my wife still in my original country, is there any paper or documents that i am required to bring with me ?
Get ready to file the I-130
Good luck with your journey

I had mine a week ago in Chicago and I get the approval letter in hand. Maybe the officer wants to review you file before making his decision. Don't worry, relax, and wait for your oath letter in the upcoming days. Congrats !
