  1. If there were no conditions on his medical report abroad (such as having to get some more vacacines or further tests) then you just need to send a copy of that report in with your AOS packet. There is no need to get a civil surgeon to translate onto the I693.

Some are getting it just incase (as some checkers of the forms do not know that people onthe K1 visa do not require the I693). I didnt and have now received my bio appointment (so I am assuming that there are no issues with what I sent in).

  2. I went in to apply for my ss number on Friday, they didn't know if I was allowed one and tried to look it up with no luck, I had my own print out of their website and the gov's to prove I was entitled to one, the lady at the counter didn't want to see it as she said "it depends on a number of factors...'

She said she will try and put me in her computer anyway... and it worked so I should get my ssn in 7-10 working days.

Just be prepaid to state your case for why you are allowed one. The link on VJ for social security numbers is where I got my print outs from.

    Good luck.

  3. Hi Vanessa,

Yeah, I looked into it - my super - Sunsuper- said that there is no way for me to withdraw it and invest in America's 401K. The best thing for me to do was to drop the life insurance and work insurance as they do not pay out if you are overseas wich took $4 a week of the fees I was paying. They suggested to invest funds into the account to keep it increasing rather then getting eaten away by interest and fee. think when I am working to even put $10 into the account a week. But then I wil need to work out how I get the funds to this Aus account without costing me.. hmm.

Other news.. I'm settling into Virgina's crispy weather, I tried to make baked beans that didnt include all the High fructose corn syrup, sugar etc and meat chunks. Failed. But I never really liked them anyway.. To fill in time while I sit at home I have decied to go home made on a lot of things as I'm scared to get the American buldge. Everything is so sweet. Damn five grain bread even. :-)

Marriage in just over a month and then I can get started on the AOS.

Everyone keep us posted on how they are going with that..

  4. Hello all!

Day three for me too. I love being here!

Entry into LA was smooth - the only word mentioned to me was to confirm I know I had to marry in 90 Days and good luck with it all. :-)

Can't say the same for my flight. 24hr stomach bug for 24 hours of travel does not equal a good time. But all had past by the time I arrived. No plane delays and no luggage lost.

Wedding plans underway and mostly sorted - It feels great doing it all over a weekend when most take months. Not so much stress.

Wedding booked for 27th of Nov down in Florida. :-)

Next week I will work on my SS number, bank account and license -Lets give them a chance to really know I'm here.

Today I'm working on wedding vows, I want to find something suitalbe for our lives. Any ideas on sources?

  5. I would recommend starting now, whilst he is still over there as he will need to get stuff together to get the process started and your first packet sent off.

I have finished everything here in Australia and am not off to the US. I found this website great to help put everything together and ask anyone questions when I was freaking out.

If you have any questions I would be happy to help. Good luck.

  6. Hi Again.

I have another question for all.

As you are all in the same boat as me I thought the link to my forum question would be suitalbe.

Let me know what you are planning on doing.

Not sure if its an issue for all of us but I dont want to be without work for too long. I will go crazy!!

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/272471-work-permit-before-marriage-on-k1-filing-i-765/

    Thanks.

4 days till man arrives on visit. :-)

  7. Hello.

So I am looking to get everyone's advice or experience.

I am coming to the states on my K-1 Visa on teh 8th of October. We are then relocating from Virginia to Florida End of October, Early Novemember and we will not be married till we are in Florida (family there).

I don't like the idea of not working for such a long time and I dont really want to do a court house wedding straight up if I dont have to.

Is it worth while filing for the I-765 work permit when I arrive and when approved looking for work (this would mean paying the $340 for this alone and then refiling for it when I do my adjustement of status).

How long does it take to be approved? And will this work out anyhow/am I allowed to do this?

How long have everyone had to wait from AOS to having their work permite and AOS cleared? I was reading its around 90days??

    Any feedback would be helpful.

Trying to work out best plan of action.

    Thanks.

    Ang.

  8. Hi Barbara,

Glad you heard from them. It sucks when you are on this end with no response. You should have your visa in no time.

How exciting -you are getting married soon!

I'm the same with my wedding, I dont care what goes on as long as we are together. All this waiting, I can't wait to just be able to come home to my man at the end of the day and not have to kick start the computer to be able to talk with him.

Good luck. Let us know how you go. I"m sure it will all work out ok.

Where about are you heading to in the states? Will you be based in Florida too or is it just to be wed?

My partner is in Virginia but when I get there we are relocating down to Florida for his work. We are going to wait to we get down there to marry. You'll have to let me know who you use and if you recommend any place/photographer etc.

    :-)

  9. Hi,

I recieved mine on a Friday (after my Tuesday interview) so it makes sense that they post on Thursdays. Express post should be just the one day of travel.

I've seen they have asked for the origial divorce cert from a few people now (which they never request in your interview letter). For some reason on the day I didn't get asked (but had my partner express post a copy to me just incase it was requested).

You should have it in no time. Can you track your express post barcode?

    Good luck.

    Ang.

  10. Hello! I'm approved. Interview went well with no problems (didn't ask for the divorce papers). :-)

Was pretty quick, I was asked the same as Matt and total time was about 30hr including the wait.

Ticket booked for 8th of October as my partner had a pre booked trip to come here to meet the family - in less then two weeks.

    Excited its all happening.

Didnt' see Matt there on the day, but I did go to the interview 1 hr early (it was cold outside). But this wasn't a problem, they took me through and processed me.

Sore feet from a day of shopping in Sydney, but SO worth it.

Good luck to every one else!

  11. Thanks Carey, I'll get my partner to get onto it asap just incase, if I dont receive it by my interview at least it will be not to far behind in the post.

I read in the packet 3 paperwork that if the "applicant has been divorced they should have the original or a certifed copy" But I assumed me to be the applicant only. Not Tim. Arrhh.

Anyhow thanks to all that post that give us the heads up for things like this.

  12. Went for my interview today. I'm glad I flew in on the Monday to Sydney seeing they had storms and they were diverting planes this morning.

My appointment was for 11am but decided to go in at 10am. I went to level 10 and everyone was so pleasant and friendly. Had to go through the scanner a few times I kept buzzing but they kept making a joke about it so it made you feel comfortable ended up being my necklace I was wearing.

I had a immaculate folder with all my evidence (well I think it;s immaculate LOL) but they didn't even ask to see anything a little disappointed with so much thought went into it. They don't mind you going in early nothing was said about me being early so go for it I was out by 10.25am. Everything was going well no long waits and asked a few questions like how did you meet?, what was your longest stay in the U.S.?, When did we decide to get married?,

Then she went through the paperwork and asked if I had Bill's original divorce certificate I said no I didn't know I had to have let alone that I had to send it in. She said well we can't approve it until we sight the original and marry it up with the copy they had. I felt so deflated. They took my passport and said they will send the Visa as soon as they get the paper they require.

I went down stairs and called Bill a few tears but I know it will be approved but I just wanted to hear those words YOUR APPROVED..disappointed, frustrated, annoyed and of course upset. With that though Bill has FedEx the Divorce papers to Sydney today so hopefully they will have it by the end of the week. Then hopefully I will have my Visa next week. I called my boss and resigned and have booked flights for the 14th Sept.

    Kathy

    Hi Kathy,

My partner too has been divorced, but I didnt' have a requested on my Packet 4 to take in the divorce papers? Did anything like this come up prior to your interview?

My partner send in a copy of it with packet 1.. Hmm. My interview in on the 24th of this month..

When you said to them that you didn't know you had to bring it in what was they reply? Did they say that this is common knowledge? (that none of us know).

    Thanks, Ang.

  13. Hi Caren,

:-) When I received my letter for my interview they sent me the wrong one - I think it was yours that they send off to me. For Matthew..

I have the same interview date!!

    Question to all::

Has anyone given thought to your Super fund? With no Australian employer adding funds the total maybe eaten up by fees and charges. I just checked with mine -sunsuper-and there is a $4 a day fee plus percentages of the total balance. Does anyone know what we can do with this?

I'm trying to think of all the stuff I need to wrap up here in Aus before I go overseas to live. If anyone has any hints, maybe things I didnt think of please let me know.

    :-)

  14. Hello All.

So I'm up to just sending off my packet 3 today.

I had help from a lovely member who advised me one step ahead as I went and made the process a lot smoothly and stress free.

If anyone has any questions that I can help with please feel free to drop me a line. I had my medical in Brissy so anyone heading that way I can let them know about my trip.

My partner is coming over for a visit on the 7th of Sep so hopefully I will have had my interview by then and I can fly back with him.

I'll be down in Florida so anyone heading that way or from there let me know. ;-)

Good luck to everyone - its so worth it all to be happy!
