  1. A friend of mine is about to start the process for her husband. They both currently live in Canada, but are wanting to move to Texas.

Just wondering what some basic timelines are from people who have recently done this. Her husband is Canadian and they live in the Vancouver area.

I looked at the timeline, but to be honest, couldn't really understand all the charts in correlation to the different visas and wondered if the info was across the board or if the times differed from region.

    Hoping someone can help!

  2. Thanks everyone!

I had no idea how serious it is to enter that way.

I will definitely let them know that they need to go a different route. Thankfully they haven't started the process to move here yet so they haven't done anything wrong. I know they want to do this the right way, so thanks for the heads up and also what way they need to go.

And that is too bad about the DORA program closing down in Dallas. That was awesome for us when we were going through it as we got everything done really quickly...

    Thanks!

  3. I have a question for a friend of mine.

I went through this process a few years ago, but my husband was in the states already on a Religious Worker's visa, so we didn't have this issue come up.

SO, my friend's husband is Canadian. They have been living in Canada, but now want to move back to Dallas, Texas.

They are planning on him just entering on a Tourist visa and then applying for an adjustment of status based on marriage.

    Can they do this?

If he stays "in-status" while the I-30 is pending (even if he has to make a visa run), once that's approved and they submit the I-485 couldn't he just stay in the states and not have to return to Canada?

Also, is the Dallas pilot program still going on where you get your adjustment in 90 days?

    I hope someone can help!

    Thanks!

  4. Looking for someone with a very similar situation as this.

Friend lives in PA and her fiance is from the UK.

For those of you who live in the area she lives (aka her processing center)

    How long did it take?

I'm talking about from when you filed, to when you got the visa allowing your fiance to come in so y'all could get married???

    Any help??

oh and what processing center would she be mailing everything to if she lives in Harrisburg, PA

Thanks guys! Everyone was so much help on here when I was going through my AOS with my husband and I totally recommend this site to all my friends with any immigration questions!

  5. My situation was a bit different so I'm not sure how to advise a friend.

My husband and I live in Texas. He is a Belgian national, but wanted to live and work over here before we got married. He was able to get religious workers visa and then after we were married, we applied for an AOS and it was granted. Because we live in Dallas we were able to apply under DORA and we received his green card within 3 months. We weren't in any rush or didn't have any worries about him going out of status because his R visa was valid for 5 years.

My friend is a UK national. He is marrying an American. They are planning on getting married February of 2008 and will be living in PA.

I was wondering if he should go ahead and apply for a fiance visa. Obviously it would be the best bet, but since they already have a wedding date set, I was wondering if it would actually be possiible for him to get his fiance visa stuff back in time for them to get married in February.

If someone (especially who lives in PA) could let me know what is the best way to advise him, that would be wonderful!

    Thanks so much!

  6. Okay, I thought that we were pretty much done and sitting pretty, but I've been reading this bulletin board and am getting nervous. We have never had a seperate AOI interview, besides the day we filed everything.

We are in the DORA (30 day pilot program) in Dallas, so is the interview we had the day we filed considered the AOI interview everyone is talking about??

I am confused! Some one please straighten me out!

We have already filed the I-30, and the I-495 and had a same day interview. Then we went in on June 15th for his biometrics appointment and have not received anything else since.

Is there another step we have to take before we get the approval letter, like another interview or something??

Please! Someone who has been through the pilot program in Dallas, help me out!

We are trying to buy a house, but they want his residency approval before they'll give us the loan so we are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our notice!

  7. My husband (and I) are going through the Dallas Pilot Program boasting to get the residency finalized in 90 days.

We had our first appointment on May 18, 2006

Got our confirmation letters on May 25, 2006

Got a letter for the biometrics within a week or two

Had our appointment for the biometrics on June 15, 2006

They say there isn't anything for us left to do on our side.

Now we are just waiting around...

I need to know if anyone has gone through this because we are waiting for the approval letter before we can buy a house. Our life is on hold until we get it and I was wondering when I could really expect it.

Does anyone know if Dallas really gets in done in 90 days???

    Please let me know!

    -Destiny
