  1. Ok,thank you for your information,i got my answer.Thats how i thought, too, but wanted to make sure.I appreciate your response.

If you are not eligible for expedition, you can apply after you've been a permanent resident for three years. Since your husband is not currently deployed or is not about to be deployed (?) it doesn't seem like you qualify for expedition.

You can submit your application for naturalization 90 days before your 3-year anniversary of being a permanent resident.

  2. Thanks for your detailed information. My husband is in the service but currently not deployed.I read the information you sent, but couldnt see anything about the timeline. When will i be able to apply for citizenship? Thanks a lot for your response.

Spouses of U.S. citizen members of the U.S. armed forces who are (or will be) deployed may be eligible for expedited naturalization or for overseas processing. Children of U.S. citizen military members deployed abroad may be eligible for overseas processing.

Expedited Naturalization for Spouses of Military Members

Spouses of U.S. citizen service members who are (or will be) deployed may be eligible for expedited naturalization in the United States under Section 319(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).

In general, an applicant for naturalization under section 319(b) of the INA must:

    • Be age 18 or older
    • Establish that his or her U.S. citizen spouse is deployed abroad as a service member
    • Be present in the U.S. pursuant to a lawful admission for permanent residence (green card holder) at the time of examination on the naturalization application
    • Be present in the U.S. at the time of naturalization
    • Declare in good faith upon naturalization an intent to reside abroad with the U.S. citizen spouse and to reside in the U.S. immediately upon the citizen spouse’s termination of service abroad
    • Be able to read, write, and speak basic English
    • Have a basic knowledge of U.S. history and government (civics)
    • Have been, and continue to be, a person of good moral character, attached to the principles of the U.S. Constitution and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the U.S. during all relevant periods under the law

  3. Hello Vj members,

I have few questions that I need help with.I am permanent resident of US since September 2010.I remember the lady who interviewed us,told that we could apply for our citizenship in July 2013.I talked to one of my friend, she told me that since my husband is in the military service I can apply earlier than that time.I wasnt sure,I tried to do a search online I got more confused:)Does anybody know how long does it take to apply for citizenship after getting permanent greencard?

My parents are also planing a visit for christmas,I am trying to get their visa done,do i need to send them our marriage certificate to prove that they have ties in america.

Any help will be appreciated.Thank you,Good luck to you all with your journey!

  4. In our case,we got one RFE and sent the documents they needed.we received another e-mail telling us another RFE on the way by mail, which we never received..We were all stressed about why we couldnt receive our second RFE,we called bunch of times, they told us to be patient we will receive it soon and than can submit what they needed.Still in USCIS's website our first RFE is still being reviewed and second one even not submitted, but I got my permanent residence two months ago..I asked them in the interview if we still had any Rfe's pending, she said you are all ok and our case is all done well..You should definetly try to call them and find out whats going on,but I think they mess up a lot in this website..

  5. Hey I havent been on K-1 process, but we did Aos..We got an appointment from a civil surgeon and he did all the examinations, vaccinations required on I-693 for us..They put everything in a sealed envelope,we directly sent it to the immigration office..The vaccinations he got in Turkey will show up in his bloodtest,he wont need to get them again..Good Luck!!

  6. You may want to leave your SSN card at home. If that card gets lost or misplaced as you travel, it could be disastrous for you later (last thing you need is to encounter identity theft).

Am guessing the ticket will be in your married name? Just bring a copy of your marriage certificate with your green card and passport when you travel.

Thanks for your reply,I am not carrying my SSN card with me..I just wanted to mention that it was on my husbands surname too. Thanks for warning, though!

I will get my ticket on my maiden name..hopefully,passport,greencard and our marriage certificate will work out!!

  7. Hello,I hope everybody is doing great in their visa journey:)

I have a quick question,I bet this question has been asked many times, but I just wanted to be sure..

I got my permanent residence a month ago,we are planning to have a vacation in Turkey next month.I have my greencard, social security number in my husbands surname,my passport is in my maiden name..We dont have time to change my name on the passport,so is it ok if we travel with my greencard, passport and marriage certificate???Thanks in advance for any input..You all have a great day!!

  8. I have experienced the same thing,I came to visit my husband then things didnt work,I decided to stay..A lot of people told us we cant adjust status here, which made sense, but we decided to take the risk, instead of going back to my country and applying CR-1..I got my ten year greencard from a tourist visa, the interview was pretty easy too..It worked for us,maybe we were lucky but I cant say it will work for you guys.It is a though decision.Good luck whatever you decide..Hope you the best!!

  9. Sorry, but he needs to be a greencard holder in order to join the military. Once he is that, his citizenship can be expedited.

Thanks for your reply,I appreciate that..

I really didnt know he needed to be greencard holder.Once you have the greencard after certain amount time you have a chance to be citizen,no need to join the service for citizenship.I thought,as a non-us citizen, and as not a greend card holder, you have a chance to join the military, after certain amount of time, they give you the citizenship.Ohh,well maybe I am mistaken  Thanks again!

  10. Hey guys,

We had our interview for greencard, today. It was a piece of cake  We went into the room, she just asked my name, adress, date of birth, than ask for the documents we had both names on.we had cell phone bills, joint bank accounts, life insuarance, health insurance, lease agreement..She started typing on the computer and told us you are approved.we have been married more than 2 years,so we got the 10 year greencard

Thanks for everbody, who have been helping through and sharing the experiences!!Good luck to you all!! (L)

  11. I have the same condition with you..I sent our RFE response in the begining of August, still no change, they received our papers, but we still dont know if they accepted them.On the website, its still written as Request of Evidence review..I had my biometrics on August 3rd.Next week,I am having my interview.I already received my EAD and AP.The response of the papers we submitted are still mystery  Good Luck!!

  12. Hey everyone,

I am asking this question for my friend. She has an interview date on September 21th.While she went to the library to get the copies of her paperwork, she forgot the letter that tells the interview date in the copy machine..she has the copy of it,though.they were leaving tonight to go to Atlanta for the interview..I told her, they might want to see the original letter. Is it ok if she goes with the copy of this letter, instead of the original one??

Thanks in advance, you all have a good night!!

  13. Hello everyone,

I received my EAD and AP.Waiting for my interview on 28th of september..We have plans to go back to Turkey, after I receive my greencard..But i heard today from one of my friend that,if I go back to turkey and come back,my EAD card wont be valid anymore??Is it true??Do I need to reapply for it??I was thinking after our vacation to turkey,I can start looking for a job here>

    Thanks in advance!

  14. Hey Guys,

We received our interview date for September 28 :D We have had two RFE's so far,we submitted the first one,we are waiting the other one in the mail soon.We havent heard from them yet,if they accepted the papers we sent for the first RFE.I dont know all these are related,I just wanted to ask if its normal to receive an interview date before your case is done..

Thanks in advance, glad to always find answers of everything we asked for :star:

  15. Don't worry, it is extremely unlikely you will be given a hard time. I had a CR-1 in process, entered on a tourist visa, and then overstayed and adjusted status. We were basically pre-approved at our interview, except the doctor had not completely filled out the medical forms, and I had to send those back. All she really asked me was "Did you enter on a visitor visa?" I answered yes and she officially told me I was approved and she would update the system when she received the new I-693.

I expect my green card in the mail this afternoon. kicking.gif

Thanks a lot, make me feel better :D Congrulations on your greencard:))

  16. I have a similar condition with you.I visited my husband several times with a tourist visa.I came to visit him this time, but things didnt work I needed to stay in US.I wasnt inteding to stay while I was entering the US,but now I need to..We sent our AOS package, got the biometrics done, waiting for an interview date..Before we sent the AOS package, most of VJ members told us its risky.I did more search online,at the interview they might give us a hard time.I will let you know how my intervies goes,I am all stressed about it.Maybe its better if you enter with a spouse visa.Good luck to you all:))

  17. Hello!

I am here on a B-2 tourist visa. I married my husband in America a few years back when I was here on a J-1 working visa. I am getting ready to submit my greencard paperwork.I am unsure of which box I should check on "part 2 application type" of the I-131, Application for travel document. Any help would be great.
