  1. An update to all the dear people who have been so supportive, after whats been over a year long fight against the "C" word

after several operations and immunotherapy sessions the doc's have just given us the news that Lisa is clear of new and developing tumours and not only that thanks to American medical know-how she has been spared the loss of her bladder and can move onto a to a maintenance and check up program over the next few years... (probably 3 and half before shes totally in remission - we live in hope )

I have now resumed my AOS application as my K3 expires next year and (boy just in time for the whopping fee increases - gulp!) having to do medicals etc all over again with the time elapsed.. and should be fun trying to get my affadavit sorted with her being ill for so long and unable to work but shucks more importantly shes still alive it was close call at one point !

Question for those interested we have been married now for over 2 years (even though I have gone back and forth to my native UK to keep the bucks rolling in-between and logged up some 245,000 air miles in the process !!) so if the AOS is approved will it be conditional or permanent ?

regards and best wishes to all

  2. For those of you who have followed and help share the journey and advised succintly when i needed it i say thank you..

Dont quite know why i am here expressing this thought.. but VJ memeber have been good to me as i progressed through coming to the US to be with my elfin princess.

Our K3 to Cr-1 travels have been interrupted by sad news that Lisa has been diagnosed with Bladder cancer.. and suddenly other things become important... we are fighting it as we have fought together for the last 10 years and I will be by her side whatever the outcome..so far she has had two operations and we are starting immunotherapy as shes too weak for the chemo..

I am so glad the we had the fortune to have insurance out here and empthasise with other people who havent i dont know how i would cope

Im also lucky that i can still work internationally to earn enough to make co-payments..

but lately ive been feeling so tired and down and perhaps thats why im just waffling today..

Ok I apologise its not fair of me to use this forum as an outlet of expression , but i just feel that way today in this moment and time.

I wish you all well on your journeys and i hope nothing like this happens to make the journey harder

  3. I am looking for a good lawyer in the Seattle area. My last lawyer has been playing games with me and im getting ready to sue him for malpractice. My wife and I have been waiting on since october 2004 for a visa, the lawyer gave me a receipt number that did not belong to my wife, supposedly he submitted a document trace which i paid him to do but he hasnt sent me the trace results when i keep asking for it. now he says he has resubmitted teh paperwork. By now obviously i trust him as far as i can throw a building.

I miss my wife so much.

    Thanks for you help

    Woody

I used this guy and he was brilliant he is a lil eccentric but being a brit i personally liked that about him his record of success in WA speaks for it self.

    here is his website. http://www.youngjohn-visa.com/

    good luck

    John

  4. Reba,

It may be the OP's concern, but it is not necessarily true.

Especially in the case of a CR1 immigrant visa, which is a 1-entry visa an becomes moot as a visa upon use.

    Yodrak

one thing to note on the K3 and CR1 however is that if you stay out of the US for several months at a time, they can and will revoke your visa.

I think this may be the OPs concern.

I blinking well hope its moot as I (got my k3 last friday) will be on business trips all over Europe which may last over 2 months !!

  5. I'm glad they were a success for you Frances, what a dinner he had

Thanks for the Scotch Egg recipe too Girona, Jet_lag wanted to know how to make them I think

OMG.. salivating..and going to try that out.. (must have been dropped on a scotch egg as a baby)

    thanks Girona and Sukie

    John :-)

  6. Hi all

well the day hath nearly arrived !! tommorow is it at 10:00 am for my K3 interview.. and last minute nerves setting in despite all the preperation. wish me luck !! will post feedback once endured :-)

    cheers

    John

Good Luck John, its easy peasy lemon squeezy...........after it you will wonder why you worried :whistle:

Thank you all so much for the best wishes my appt was actually for 10:30 not 10 am as i previously posted.. sorry !! It went like a charm Im Approved.. ive written a review on the experience under the London embassy review section.

I was in and out of the embassy in about an hour all told which must be some kind of record !! the interview bit took about 3 minutes..

    TGIF>>>vodka slurpies all round....

  7. Haha - I have just put my first homemade Sausage Rolls in the oven and am now  around the kitchen!

I was missing them so bad and then I met another English lady in the city and she told me how to make them. So I bought me some prepared pork sausage and sage mix, a pack of puff pastry and hey presto....

I may be quiet for awhile whilst I stuff my face :P

Brilliant , i know this sound so cliched but when im in Seattle i so miss brit-indian curries <sigh> the american versions seem so odd and not as spicy or flavourful , even the texan cutie i married admits she only came to visit later for the curries in london and bath ...

So im getting a restaraunt owner from the Eastern in Putney to give me all his recipes..<g>

PS Let me know when youve mastered Scotch eggs

  8. Jaylen Brit,

What do you need to do to get your vaccination history? Is this something we can do before getting the packet 3 in order to speed up the process once it comes? I'm sure mine wil be impossible to get as I have moved around the world and was not in Britain as a child. Maybe I can just themall again now?

    congrats RM!

I got mine early April but Im still not ready to return it yet - waiting on my vaccination history so I can book medical *sigh* and then tick box on IV15 checklist confirming I have booked it.

Also got to wait to get the cash for the medical - argh long story lol

    Rebster - packet 3 has a DS156, DS156k and DS157 (men only)

DS230, I-134 (for petitioner to complete), medical questionaire, checklist..and...er...I think thats it...

    Congrats on getting so far...

I had a similiar problem getting UK NHS vaccination history as my old man was in the forces and I spent time outside the UK as an infant , tracked it down via the BFPO service, who then said as it was attached to his old army records it was classified !! whole process took months ! net result ....I had the ones that were "age appropriate" <cough> done at local doctors for free before attending the medical. <doh!>

  9. wmhurd,

Depends which consulate you're dealing with. Some consulates put all of the visa application materials in Packet 3 and only the interview notice in Packet 4. Others put only some instructions, DS-230-I, and the checklist in Packet 3, and all of the other forms in Packet 4 along with the interview notice.

Don't know how the UK does it.

    Yodrak

    Hello All

Is there anyone out there that can tell me what does Packet 4 consists of? Also how long after sending in Packet 3 do you receive Packet 4?

London (UK) put everything else in the packet three and only the interview notice and fee slip (plus medical questionaire if you have not already had one) in packet 4

  10. We thought we were being cute..and I have to admit it was loadssssssss of fun and burned a few hours... but sorry if anyone that WAS 'duped' feels bad now...not the intention. Great post Jet Lag, that was cute! :) and Ivona, yeah...we're all a pretty good bunch here I think..not nearly THAT malicious!! ;):) M.

Val..you JUST missed it..you woulda been rollin!!! Cap just deleted it..probl for the best..but still..you woulda loved it! ;) M.

Ok id wondered what all the apparent arguments was about it seemed so odd given what a nice bunch of peeps ive encountered and the good advice ive had on VJ...and now i shall go and stick my head in a bucket of champers in shame at being fooled <sob sob glug glug> into revealing my sensitive soppy side

    John

  11. :yes::thumbs::)

Well said , I have found VJ to be an invaluable resource both for support , something family does :-) and differing opinions expressed forthrightly and in the main politely and intelligently and like families do there are debates arguments and heated differences but as the "Capitane"<sic> says...a shared journey with the destination being a new life should allows us treat fellow travellers with the same respect we would like shown to us.

 waxing lyrical is less painful then waxing legs <wince>

  12. Let me try to explain it this way. If you had a gun in your house and your neighbor had a gun in his house you would each respect the others ability to kill the other. MAD. And you would each feel safe. But suppose a insane killer escaped from prison and got a gun. Would you still feel safe? Would you still think that just having a gun would stop him from using his? No, you would feel the need to get your gun out and shoot him first if he threatend you. Iran is the same way. The pres of Iran WANTS a war!

Iran is not the same way. Mr. Ahmedinajad is not insane. He is playing off the hysteria white folk get into when they see a militaristic-sounding brown person who wants a nuke. India and Pakistan have had nukes for years now. I remember all the hysteria from white mediapersons about how dangerous that was. Well fukc them all, nukes have actually STABILIZED the south asian region. Fact, if you care to peruse the Indian/Pakistani media. The fact is brown people want to live just as much as the next guy. They're not nuts although it is common in that part of the world (India included) to engage in rhetoric that sounds to white Western ears as the talk of a madman. It's fear, they are playing on it just as they have for centuries. Wise up.

It is said that God protects fools and little children. I can only hope He protects us. This leader of Iran in determand to take over the world and if we do nothing he will do it. I direct you to read this. It isn't some right wing blog. It is Newsweek. Please tell me what you think then.

Hmm scary article or what , not sure it clarifies anything though , human history so far indicates that , we will continue to fight over resources , territory etc , biologically that is what "we" do and until (if ever) cultural and religous differences and sustainable equitable resource production between the same species reach an equilibrium of sorts it will continue. Its a rather grand assumption on humanitys part that the planet cares less about our being on it , if we all nuke each other to bits it will takes its time re-nuture (or not) some other species or variant and carry on orbiting the sun till it blows up regardless.

Enjoy the life you have , civilisations that are "civilised" use diplomacy to avoid "crashing" and fight to survive , if survival is not an option then whats the point in fighting ? If every country had nukes then we use one standard if every country got rid of them then we have one standard . For any one country or group to have them then dictate to the rest that they cannot is inevitably a judgment and statement of untrustworthiness and percieved inferiority, a double standard.

Hmm i think im in danger of waffling up my own rear end so will shut up and eat some cheese on toast instead.

  13. garden tub dear - which u told me was some kind of bath tub..which sounds so weird to me, lol.

And yes, why ARE those water towers up in the air like that? Anyone know?

Water towers tend to carry spare capacity for the supplying water system to be used at ""peak" times before the advent of sophisticated high pressure pumps , having the "spare" storage high-up (in a tower) meant that pressure was maintained in the system.

The towers are replenished at off-peak times from normals sources after purification

Now you always wanted to know that didnt you :-)

As a London born brit who has an Indian heritage and as my cockney mates used to say "darker then a hole in calcutta" ....but suffered the misfortune of boarding school and a "toffee nosed accent" some what hugh grantish!!

The complete look of shock and confusion when I open my mouth and speak in WA , TX and CA is still a joy to behold <grin>

  14. Point of clarification

Got my K3 interview on the 19th May <yippee>

I had the medical done at Knightsbridge on the 7th April..on leaving all i recieved was a receipt for the medical and x-ray stapled to a tabular form DS-3025 entitled vaccination documentation worksheet (completed and signed by the doc) no sealed envelope.

But the appt letter accompanying note says "If you have already had your medical examination , you must bring the results which the embassy physician will have sent or given "you" in a sealed envelope which you must not open ...Yikes!!

Does this mean the medico chaps have lost the medical results !! , sent them straight to the embassy ?

or the instruction bit is no longer valid ...aack why do they make thing so daft.. i would have chased up sooner but ive only just got back from a visit to the US and found the letter in the mail th day after returning.

Guess I will ring Knightsbridge monday am and find out whats going on.

anyone got any comments or observations handy tips or otherwise amusing ditties :-)

    John

    john

with K-3 you dont get vaccination documentation. did the DR give you a BROWN sealed envelope???

Nope definetly no brown envelope and most certianly a vaccination document as referred to in the original post , i m just checking on a procedural change where the Doctors now send the the information directly to the Embassy themselves and do not hand it to the applicant at all... will confirm after enquiry

    cheers

    John

I can now confirm, so if one of the senior peeps on VJ want to add this to gudes or tips ( sorry if its already there and i misread it) The Knightsbridge doctors for the UK London Embassy Medicals are directed by the Embassy to send the medical results DIRECTLY to them and not the pending visa benificary.

The letter contained in Packet 4 from the Embassy detailing the appointment date is now incorrect in referring to sealed envelopes to take with you. Ive been told a new version will be issued in future packet 4's for UK applicants (presumably when they have used up the old print run)

    regards

    John (no longer frowning) :-)

PS this is only applicable to the UK London Embassy

So thanks to however moved the thread to the correct place apologies for posting in the wrong area.

  17. Congrats to all who have had there interviews and thanks for all the advice from previous queries on simultaneously doing K3 and CR1 without AOS

.....just some new news from myself got interview date over the weekend for my K3 ..wowsa its 19th May 2006

Slightly puzzled that Ive not got the medical results back from 7th April though or been informed that they are already at the embassy in London !!

    John

    <alternating between smiling and frowning>

  18. Jet_Lag

Euro just recently had a successful CR-1 interview in the UK after having already entered the US on a K-3.

Thank you for the congrats and well wishes.

    Lorelle

Lorelle your very welcome twas meant sincerely

thank you very much , puts my mind at rest about how to proceed and a tad annoyed at the ignorance of supposedly the best immigration lawyer in WA who didnt appear to be sure of his facts !! to be fair and humourously objective however he does not and never claimed to have method of seeing the future <chuckle>

    best regards

    John

  19. Can anyone on the VS site who has actually entered the US on a K3 , NOT adjusted status then gone back for an in progress CR-1 interview let me know thier experience ?

    best regards

    John

    Hi, John!

If you don't find anyone replying to your question above, you may want to start a thread under the Regional Discussion (UK) asking your question. I think it's best if you find someone in that situation from your own country.

That's what I sort of did except I looked up people in the Immigration Timelines section. I looked for a Canadian who entered the US on a K-3, NOT adjusted status then gone back for the CR-1 interview. I was able to find one person and emailed her (I don't think she's been active here at VJ lately as her case was completed awhile back). She is really nice and assured me that coming back for the CR-1 after entering the US on a K-3 was very possible as this was what she did.

    Good luck,

    Kay

Thanks Kay much appreciated.. will try posting just the last part in the regional discussion , also going to have a quick word with an immigration lawyer this afternoon.

best of luck to you to :-)

    John

  20. Many on here enter the US on a K-3 and continue the process of the I-130 through NVC culminating in returning to the embassy for the CR-1 visa. You dont have to do AOS if you are wishing to return to embassy to interview for the CR-1.

Hi and thank you Aussiewench for your reply..congratulations on your CR1 progress by the way and good luck for the interview in June I wish you and your pirate and family all the best for your life together.

Can anyone on the VS site who has actually entered the US on a K3 , NOT adjusted status then gone back for an in progress CR-1 interview let me know thier experience ?

    best regards

    John

  21. I would say it's either abandoning the K3 or if you are going back and forth anyways, you can get the K3 and come back for CR1 interview. But you are very far in the CR1 process so maybe waiting would be good.

You can do the K3 and then CR1 if you want to but you could wait a bit longer and just do CR1. After you send inn the I864 and DS230, it's almost off to the embassy already!

Thank you for the reply :-)

On thinking about it I guess the question could be distilled down to if i get the K3 and enter the US with it

does the CR-1 process thats in place stop and MUST I then follow the AOS route or can i just carry on coming and going and simply wait for the CR-1 to hit the London Embassy ?

    cheers

    John

  22. General throw out to all interested paries to ponder and comment on.

I am proceeding with a K3 in the UK , had the medical but not given an interview date yet (though due soon im fairly sure)

We also pursued the CR-1 route and it appears to have caught up Portsmouth NVC having just sent a request for another affadavit of support form for my wife Lisa to complete and a DS230 for me

Im in the US on a short break and heading back to London this week , not sure if i should abandon the K3 and just pursue the CR-1 now as it will save on AOS fees later plus id effectively be able to start working sooner.

Any thoughts on options ? what I was intending to do was as follows ...

    1. Complete and return the CR-1 I-864 and DS230 forms as requested

    2. Attend K3 interview..<hopefully get K3 visa>

    3. Come in on K3 but not adjust status as yet

    4. Travel back and forth as I have been doing (I run a business in the UK) not ever had any issues travelling to US and back.

    5. Go back to London for the CR-1 interview when asked to.

    6. Finally immigrate and set up new business here.

Now what im not sure about is if this is do-able or will entering with the K3 throw a spanner in the works ?

    best regards

    John
