  1. Here's our situation...my husband now lives and works in the US (since May 2011). He still owns a property in Canada and uses it as a rental property (however, with taxes owed/mortage rate, etc.) we do not make any money on the property.

We have an accountant we've been working with but he doesn't seem to be sure of what he is doing. What should exactly be doing as far as filing in Canada? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  2. Hello everyone!! After all this hussle and bussle, we were finally approved!! I will write my review soon. My husband and I have a few questions regarding the next steps as soon as he receives his passport and greencard at the DHL....

He owns a house in Calgary..he has renters in it now but plans to sell it in June. It is okay if he still owns a house in Canada and moves to the US correct?? Like I said, he plans to sell it soon...

Any tips or advice for when he actually plans to move here??

Thanks so much...this site has been AMAZING!!!!!

  3. Hello all!

We are getting super close to our interview date..NEXT WEEK ON THE 15TH! Anyone that has recently been through the process have any tips/suggestions for the interview???

We have all of our paperwork together and pictures, etc. I am traveling to Montreal with my husband..will they let me go in the consulate with him or will I have to wait until he is done???

Also, I heard that they take his passport before he leaves..is this true??

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Happy interviewing!!!

  4. Well He will get a temporary Green card right then and there right???

Will that allow him to cross over the border with me to go back to Rochester that day?

  5. Oh no..this is not good!! My husband and I are planning on driving up to Montreal for the interview (I live in Rochester, NY) and he is only across the border from me so he comes to see me every weekend. If we plan on leaving from Rochester together that means HE won't be able to cross back over the border with me when we return???? This is NOT good! Is there any way around it???

  6. I don't know why they are so backed up...probably because they are the only place that handles the visas...I think Vancouver should be able to as well (but for some reason they can't!) Overall, this is a really easy process...the only part that is hard is the WAITING!!! It can get very frusturating!

Thanks and good luck to you too!!!!!

  7. We were told that it would take 5-7 months for the whole process when we were first going through this. It's been almost a year for us and we have our interview on Feb. 15th!

We got our NOA1 around April 2nd of last year...and our NOA2 came in the beginning of September (5 months)...

sooo...our process with the interview coming was about 10 months for us!

    There's a good chance for you :)

I would recommend electronic processing once you get to the NVC process..it goes much quicker and you receive emails as notifications instead of having to wait for the mail to come. When we got our interview date, my husband and I were out to eat and the email came through on my blackberry!!

    GOOD LUCK!

  8. My husband called to get his immunization records and they told him that they delete files in Canada ever so often. They only have records for him from 1986 and on...is this okay? Did anyone else come across this situation?

How long do records take to arrive??

  9. We've been done with our NVC process since early August,

WHY on earth would they be making you wait for so long??? This is not good to read, I was so hopeful when I thought we sent off the final payment to the NVC, submitted the final papers that things would move quicker. And now I read that you have been waiting since August just for an appointment...I am so angry..guhhhhhhh sorry...but what the HECK??? Can you contact a congressman? Would that help at all at this point?

  10. Soooo...I know that a million of you are going through the same thing right now but this is so frusturating! All of the steps are complete and we are just waiting for a interview date.

It blows my mind that they make you wait FOREVER for what seems like a 10 minute interview just so that my husband can come over and we can start living our lives together. Is there anyway we can find out information?? Our NVC case was complete in October and still no word :(

Is there anything we should be doing?? I just want my husband here!! We are planning our "Real Family Wedding" for May and I really need him here now. We are paying double rent right now just because of this stupid wait...we really could use the extra money for the big wedding. Sorry to go on and on, i'm just really wonderfing what is going on?

Hope everyone's process is going well...Happy Holidays to everyone :)

  11. So we decided to OPT in for electronic processing...we did this on Monday...my husband (the beneficiary) sent the email along with the DS-3032. It's been five days and we haven't heard anything yet (except for the automated response.

Can I send anything else in yet or do I have to wait?? We have all the paperwork and documents ready to go..I just want to get everything in and be done with it! :)

    Happy Friday everyone!

  12. You will be fine!

My husband (Canadian) is living in Niagara falls right now and I live an hour and a half across the border in the states. He visits me every single weekend and sometimes during the week.

Things your wife should have in the car when crossing:

Recent paystubs (to show she is still working in Canada)

Lease (if she is renting) or some proof of a canadian address

You just have to prove that you are going to be returning to Canada...most of the time, you don't even get questioned.

    good luck with everything!!!!
