  1. they never ever gave you a SSN, after applying the first time? They kept saying you must have EAD first? I'm sorry, this is wrong.

You should take names and ID numbers of the employees that told you this, file a complaint with the SSA ombudsman's office - you've dealt with idiots.

    and

do you have some name problem with SAVE database, either the name is mis-spelled or the A# is off, when comparing what's in SAVE database to what's on the visa and I-94?

If so, you'll need to get into a CBP office, secondary inspection / deferred inspection - and get it fixed there, face to face -

and then, several days later, return to SSA office (suggest after you have EAD in hand)

    and apply again.

    ---

also , I think they are wrong about 'EAD only' scenario - as many have gotten it solely with the EAD, showing that and the expired I-94, passport with VISA document.

thank you for the info... And yes they never gave me a chance to get an SSA, i went there 3x during the time my I94 was not expired yet..they never ever checked my name in the computer too so...and keep on saying i need an EAD.. then when i came back the 4th time with I94 expired and with my AOS and EAD acceptance notice from the immigration they said i need to wait until my GC because they wont accept EAD approval alone in the future since my I94 is already expired and another thing is that they said my name is already changed to married name.. i really feel bad about this thing...maybe filing a complaint to the ombudsman is a good idea...

  2. very strange, they should have given you the SSN by presenting the unexpired I-94 alone. anyway, in California (that's where you are, right?) the SSN is required but not sufficient to obtain a driver license: you also need proof of legal presence, which is either a GC or an EAD. same for working: you can't work just with an SSN, because you will receive a "restricted" card, valid only with work authorization (again, either EAD or GC). at this point, to not waste further time, just wait until you receive the EAD or the GC and then go back to the SSA with that, because for the time being a SSN is quite useless.

Yes, thanks for the comment. And that's what i was telling to the SSA officer but they refused..I live here now in Oregon and Iam not sure if every state has its own policy in issuing SSN. same with the DMV requiring SSN to issue license.

Now since my name changed getting an SSN with EAD alone is not possible.. I just wish that I kept my maiden name so all legal documents are in the same name.

  3. Hi everyone,

I came here in the usa tru K1 visa last october 2010, i went to SSA to apply for SSN but they told me that I need a EAD before i can get a SSN.. i went back there 3 times for a reconsideration but they refused. so we got married on november 15 then applied for an AOS together with EAD and travel docs on the 30th in my married name(hyphenated).. Now my I94 already expired and will get EAD in a month or two.(by the way tomorrow is my biometric schedule)

So with the I94 expiration concern I went back to the SSA last week and told them about it and they said i wont be able to get SSN if my I94 is expired even i have EAD unless i get my GC ... this thing is really pissing me off, and i am sure that not everyone has this problem with the SSA. I know it will take time to get my GC but i want a SSN to get a license from DMV, attend school or get a job. Staying at home and doing nothing is really killing me. And my other concern is that i wish i just kept my maiden or use my husband name instead of hyphenated name because the USCIS keep on sending wrong name format on my name even i reported the error and corrected it. I am planning to file a change name at the court to bring back my name and to avoid error or confusion with it, but ofcourse i need to discuss it with my husband..so if ever i can forward it to USCIS before they issue my GC.. is that possible?

oh well everything is very complicated for me now.. i hope to see a lil light in this very long tunnel.

  4. hi, we are just days ahead of you, our i129 was approved on june 1, and right now im waiting for the packet 3.. check the US embassy mnaila website http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwfk1en.pdf about the documents that you need to prepare..better to collect all of it asap..the cenomar doesnt have an expiry date.

as i've read the vacciness are not included in the medical fee... i am also a nurse and also wondering about all those shots..but majority of those in the list are already given to us when we were a baby..or if you had those disease before..maybe we can just get a booster shots for hepa b and tetanus..and meningococcal and other new vaccines in the list, we need that too... i think those vaccines are needed before the adjustment of our status from non-immigrant to immigrant.. but we both know that it will be cheaper if we get those shots here..just dont forget to get a proof of vaccination..

    goodluck

check the NSO online website..you can do online request for cenomar and birthcert then you will pay the fee tru bank...you'll see there how much it'll cost..i forgot the amount

  6. You don't have to rush to make the interview appointment. It states on your documents how much time you have (a few months). That could give him time to get another job. If your fiance is in good terms with the his former employee they may be able to provide a letter of his employment dated the last day he was working. That might work, as long as it wasn't so long ago. It doesn't state that the letter of employment must be dated one week prior or anything like that...

When did you fiance get the 2nd NOA? Ours left the NVC on June 4 going to the Embassy in the Philippines and my finance still has not been contacted from the Embassy. If you are behind us you still have time...

My fiance got a letter of employment from his recent employer i think that was dated sometime in march.. he filed it together with the I-129 last april, i told him that i will need that on the interview but at that time he wants to prepare all the needed documents.. hope that we can use it though he's no longer working there..its been 1 1/2 months that he lost that job..

Our NOA approval date is june 1, and left the NVC on June 10...you are few days ahead of us.. goodluck!!

  7. Hi everyone, I wanna know what will happen with our K1 visa. My fiance lost his job after the K1 petition approval.. As of June 12, the NVC sent him a notice that in a week the US embassy manila will received the packet and will be forwarded to me as the beneficiary. I know i need to present and comply a lot of documents and especially the I-134 Affidavit of support and latest payslips/pay stubs. I worry that my visa will be denied because of my fiance job status.. Help pls!! i need an advice.. thanks a lot!!
