  1. Hello all,

When putting together my I-864 packet, I made a few million mistakes and in consequence, I printed about 6 dozen copies of everything. As a result of my generally messy nature, I didn't realize that I stapled an earlier copy of my letter explaining why I didn't file taxes in 2009, which, depressingly, does not have my SSN on it. Then I sent it. Yesterday.

Is there any way that I can mail a corrected letter to them without waiting for the dreaded RFE for failure to follow instructions?

  2. My husband and I are planning to begin the immigration process in the next several months (CR1). I am currently underemployed as a part-time research assistant at the university that I just graduated from. My current income--were I to keep this job for a 12 month period--would put me at $3,000 shy of 125% of the poverty line. I have about $10,000 in assets, which won't make up the gap. I am currently looking for full-time employment to replace my student employment, but I will not be taking on a new job until September to allow my finishing of this project. With any luck, I should find a full-time position with little difficulty in September.

Am I correct in my understanding that my financial information is not necessary until the USCIS portion is completed, a process which appears to take at least three months and usually takes longer? Additionally, is there a minimum number of months I need to show that I've had an income meeting the criteria for financial support? Will my having been in school for the past several years cancel out having only one of three tax returns? Will my being consistently employed this year, if poorly paid, cancel out the newness of the position I will (hopefully) hold when I submit the I-864?

Having a co-sponsor is not an option.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. This is all so new and exceedingly confusing. I keep getting overwhelmed and it's nice to get an idea of where I stand (or sink) from people who've been there.
