Oath Ceremony Experience:

I had my naturalization oath ceremony at SUNY, Brockport. There were 66 people taking oath there. We were asked to arrive at 9:45am, when they checked our official invitation letter and took our green cards. One official started explaining the proceeding at 10:15am, and the actual court was in session at 10:45am. There was national anthem and salutation of flag, after which the judge gave a brief speech and then there was the oath of allegiance. Finally, the judge presented the naturalization certificate by calling each individual person. The ceremony was well organized with ample officials and volunteers. It was over by 11:40am. We also registered to vote by filling up the voter registration form and submitting it to a non-profit volunteer organization which would submit the forms on our behalf.

Sorry to barge in on this thread....

But I can't help but notice that May_N400 was from Buffalo,NY, which is rare around here on VJ....

Anyways..Congratulations on passing your interview May_N400! And thanks for sharing about that experience here on VJ!

From what you described, your interview in Buffalo,NY was pretty similar to mine (except yours was in the morning with a male IO, and mine was in the afternoon with a female IO, and we both got different sets of questions/answers)....

In and out in 15 minutes for the interview...lol...And yes, they were pretty nice about things in-person.

Good luck with your oath coming up on September 17th!

By the way, is your oath ceremony at the Buffalo, NY federal courthouse on Delware Ave. or is it someplace else?

Yaah, I guess only a few would-be-immigrants are in this nature's refrigerator. I am not from Buffalo. My oath ceremony is in Suny, Brockport. I was told by IO that the ceremony will be big, probably more than 100 oath takers. I'll share my experience as others have shared theirs. Good luck to you all VJ-ers. I have followed this forum pretty regularly and people's experiences helped me a lot to get a general picture.

Sorry for my sloppiness. It is "Name three of the original states". I believe they were the first who ratified the constitution. The questions would be from the book. so when you hear "name three states .....", that should trigger the pavlovian dog in your head to name those states :) don't worry!!!

Passed the interview today at Buffalo, NY. I was scheduled for 8:40am and was called in around 9:00am. The process is very straightforward. The IO asked mostly routine questions from the application, only interested to know if anything changed since the application was filed. He asked me to write a simple sentence, and then asked six civics questions (who is commander-in-chief, who wrote declaration of independence, name three states that signed the independence letter etc). Once that was over, he gave me a letter saying I passed the interview and a separate letter saying my oath date is September 17th. I was out in 15 minutes.

I felt it was not an interview to reject people but to verify if there is a real human face behind the application. If you are applying five years after employment-based green card and did not make your life unusually complicated by not paying annual taxes or being arrested, I would say there is no reason to worry.

Updating my biometrics information. I am confused about one piece of instruction though. It says put the date of appointment for the interview, but we have two columns, one for Int Ltr and the other for Interview. Why do we have two separate columns if we are not differentiating between int ltr and date of interview.
