Any place you apply for a passport they need your original Certificate of Naturalization. Passports are processed through the U.S. Department of State, not USCIS, and the Dept. of State needs the original Certificate of Naturalization to verify U.S. Citizenship. It will be returned with your new U.S. Passport. That is the only way, no matter which outlet you apply through. .

If you have concern, you can request a replacement Certificate of Naturalization, if lost or damaged, by filing for N-565. All you need is your A#, and a photocopy of your Certificate. Don't worry!

I wouldn't worry too much. You've done your part correctly, I assume. If something was wrong you'd get a RFE, or similar notice. Since you've filed in the correct window of time I can't imagine there is any danger of Removal Proceedings. Just wait the 30 days and call again, if your NOA is not received.

I have a feeling something has gone wrong with my NOA1! What could it be? It just doesn't make sense and when I called USCIS they said it might take up to 30 days... Well if I have to wait 30 days my GC would've expired, so would my driver's license etc...

. . .Hello all. . .My Fiancee will be here mid-February and we are wondering what should be our first steps after she arrives & before marriage; also what should our first steps be after marriage ( Green Card, SSN, AOS ( what exactly is that??? ) & Citizenship would be some of our goals ). . .I would like to be able to travel outside of the USA soon after she arrives here, but, understand that might be difficult? In our experience the local Civil Surgeon did their own medical examination, and we did a full I-693. Even though K-1 is technically not required by USCIS to have another medical exam; NO doctor is going to sign off on another doctors exam. The Civil Surgeon will, most likely, require a full medical exam before signing the I-693.

Per the guide here, the affidavits are not required, unless you don't have enough Primary Evidence (joint bank accounts, joint insurance, etc). Unless you have reason to believe your marriage looks fake, I wouldn't bother personally.

Despite what has been put out in the guides, and what I've heard from other filers, Last week we received a letter from USCIS. It was warning us that my wife's status was going to expire soon and that we needed to file I-751. That was unexpected (maybe they are desperate for money now!), however we were already well aware and had most of the required documents assembled. Has anyone else gotten reminders like this?

Hello i heard many filipina live in seattle .Anyway i live in 2HOURS FROM SEATLE ..

I bought my fiancee's ticket via a travel agent here. I paid them and they bought the ticket in Manila and they emailed her the e-ticket. Maybe I am just lucky to have an agent here with connections to Manila, but it was a easy, smooth process through them.

The Embassy will schedule the interview, if you need to reschedule the interview date, you can make a request to reschedule.

This is WRONG. This applies to immigrant visas NOT K-1 applicants.

A K-1 will receive notice from NVC that your case has been forwarded to Manila for processing. Once your case has been processed you will be given notice that your are eligible to be scheduled for an interview (about 6-8 weeks total time).

You call the embassy and you will then be asked for your email address and your appointment letter will be sent to that email.

When I called for our interview I was given a choice of about 1 month of when I could choose the date of the interview.

You are a Permanent resident the moment you are issued a green card. "Conditional" or otherwise.

Looks like K-1 Visa is the best bet. Like they said, you are not required to live in USA together after your marriage using the K-1 Visa.

Too much of a risk to wait years before adjusting status. if there happened to be any run-in with immigration officials and they see there was out-of-status for over 6 months, they can deport her and ban entry into the US for several years.

I'd say just send it to the first adress. being you are close by, it should arrive same day or next day. I am pretty sure you'd need an appointment to go to the actual office, which would probably take alot longer than mailing the petition.

Ok, first question... we've got her interview date in the Philippines on November 5th. She is located in Manila, so from what I understand, she should get her Visa just like 2-3 days after the interview, is that correct?

After that, she has to attend the seminar about living in the USA. Also, as I understand it, she can do this on a walk-up basis and they offer these seminars every day of the week. So, she should be able to do this like the next day, correct? After that, is she free to come to the USA?

I guess my real question is...how likely is it that she WON'T be able to come to the USA a few days after the interview? We're both very antsy at this point, and I would like to book her flight. Under normal circumstances, nothing else should come up right? It isn't going to take a few weeks to get the Visa, right? My plan as of now is to fly over there about a week after her interview date, and return with her 2-3 weeks later. I can cancel the flight with no penalty, but I want to make sure she has the Visa in hand before I fly over. Is a week enough time to take care of everything, or am I jumping the gun?

I know there are is always a chance that she may fail the interview or something like that, but assuming she passes, will it be pretty safe to book a flight so soon after?

(I know, I know. I told her to be patient and we will book her flight after everything is officially done, but I can't take time off in December, so if she isn't here by November, she will have to wait until January, which she is not receptive to hahaha."

She can attend the CFO seminar before her interview. My Flor had her Certificate 2 months ago, and we have our Interview Oct 26. Which seminar she attends will depend on if you are applying for an Immigrant Visa or non-immigrant (K) Visa.

click Emigrant if you are applying for Immgrant Status there, or use Spouse/Fiance if you are going to adjust status in US.

Once you have the certificate, you hold on to it until your Visa is in hand. Then you return to CFO and they will stamp her Visa for departure.

I am staying 2 weeks after the interview, though, my filipina travel agent told me 10 days is usually plenty of time for the Visa to be delivered.

My guess is you used a lawyer that wasn't fully experienced in Immigration. I hope his mistake doesn't cuase you trouble. As I take it, a marriage broker is someone who sells people for marriage. That is not what FilipinaHeart is practicing. Always tell the truth.

It's really not practical to print out all of your IM conversations. Personally, I am taking 2 or 3 days out of each month, plus the Call History. That alone is going to be a thick stack of paper...

Always take valuables in carry-on. I had no questions asked to me, and I had a digital cam, new in the box. Nothing to worry about, in my opinion.

She did finally remember her former supervisers names'. Perhaps this form is not that important, being that it is not being submitted with a case for a work visa or an education visa.

From what I've researched, the DS-156 and DS-156k are much more important in a K-1 situation, but I still want to have everything as complete as possible.

My fiancee cannot remember the names of her old supervisors from her jobs 9+ years ago. She has been at her current job for over 8 years. So, is it acceptable to leave Question 12 blank, since she cannot remember her old boss' names?
